To think the Great British Bake Off should not be starting next month

It's a cosy, autumn/winter, back to school, nights darkening type programme and should be starting in mid/lat September when we're all packing away our flip flops and sun tan lotion and starting to settle back into a routine and drawing the curtains at 4.30 and putting the heating back on.

Absolutely!!!!!!!!!!

SUMMERFRUIT · 29/07/2013 18:27

100 % with you on that one !

orangepudding · 29/07/2013 18:27

You're right it is a cosy evening programme, shouldn't be on in the summer!

doingthesplitz · 29/07/2013 18:41

I totally agree. I can never understand why a programme that is so tailor made for cosy Winter evenings should begin right in the middle of the holiday season. It is up there with Downton Abbey and Call the Midwife for that lovely nostalgia feeling and belongs to Winter nights all snuggled up in the warm.

And now I really want to eat a home made scone smothered in butter beside a flickering fire.

HeySoulSister · 29/07/2013 18:50

But when it's one of those cosy autumn nights you'll be saying why can't we have it in the summer with all those cream scones/strawberry tarts/summer fruit flans! Grin

ShatnersBassoon · 29/07/2013 18:52

I totally agree. It's a curtains shut and hot drink programme.

PomBearArmy · 29/07/2013 18:53

Please tell me that sleazy Paul Hollywood won't be on it! I couldn't stand him before, but I won't watch the show at all now if he's still on it.

stargirl1701 · 29/07/2013 19:00

Given our weather, it might be Autumn by next month Grin

MrsMangoBiscuit · 29/07/2013 19:04

It should definitely not be starting till at least the middle of September, after I've had DD2, so I have something comfy to watch during evening cluster feeds!

IceNoSlice · 29/07/2013 19:05

Totally agree. Which is why I'll probably watch it on iplayer in September!

YouStayClassySanDiego · 29/07/2013 19:06

Really, back next month?

Has it always started in August or is this year just whizzing by and I've forgotten.

Agree it should be a cold evening, fire on show along with Strictly and CtM [can't stand Downton so not bothered about that]

LifeIsSoDifferent · 29/07/2013 19:08

I agree but I'm excited that its coming back!

SmiteYouWithThunderbolts · 29/07/2013 19:09

Yup, definitely an Autumn/Winter programme along with Call the Midwife, Downton Abbey and X-Factor Blush

Katienana · 29/07/2013 19:13

I went into labour last year when they made gingerbread! Must have been the excitement.from the structures collapsing.

curlew · 29/07/2013 19:15

Just looked-!it's always started in August- and even earlier than this series. Why do I imagine it being in the Autumn?

PastaBeeandCheese · 29/07/2013 19:16

YANBU. It feels like autumn viewing.

imademarion · 29/07/2013 19:50

Please tell me that sleazy Paul Hollywood won't be on it! I couldn't stand him before, but I won't watch the show at all now if he's still on it.

Why not?

McNewPants2013 · 29/07/2013 19:53

Yanbu it a program to be enjoyed with a cup of tea, slippers and dressing gown.

Not sweating trying to cool down.

YouStayClassySanDiego · 29/07/2013 19:55

I can't stand PH, not because he's a shagging dickhead but because his head is so far up his own waddling arse he actually believes his own publicity!

I'll still watch it though, love the show.

JassyRadlett · 29/07/2013 20:12

Oh no! I always think of it as September viewing as I first saw it when DS was born in September, when the series was half over.

I think it would be too cruel to show it in winter, with all that summery baking in marquees and garden parties.

Trigglesx · 29/07/2013 20:48

Oh, what date does it start, if anyone knows offhand please?

YouStayClassySanDiego · 29/07/2013 20:53

Giving this some thought and I do now recall the rain pounding down the sides of the marquee when it should have been gloriously warm.

Sounds right, bring it on! < rubs hands furiously Grin >

curlew · 29/07/2013 21:22

It's actually recorded in the Spring.

Fakebook · 29/07/2013 21:37

No way. It's the type of programme you watch when the days are longer and after watching you go off into your kitchen and make a cake or bread just for the hell of it as the sky turns blue.

I watched re runs of it during early pregnancy when I was ill in bed with morning sickness and a sinus infection. It made me cry. I associate it with pregnancy now.

Alohomora · 29/07/2013 21:47

I totally agree! I love my cookery programmes, get out my recorded Nigella episodes when I'm having a down day, GBBO is definitely one of those shows I'd prefer to be on in autumn or spring.

I think it's too soon for a new series already, anyway.
