flour on most of shopping so treated anything that was covered in flour as damaged - as I had to rinse off and clean up the mess. They have given me £5 off next shop but still feel a bit disgruntled?! what do you think??

BrokenBanana · 26/07/2013 10:21

I think get over it.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 26/07/2013 10:23

It's only flour. It happens just wipe off.

coraltoes · 26/07/2013 10:23

was anything inedible? thats the main reason i'd request a refund. such as the eggs i once got that were basically scrambled. or the mango that was one colossal bruise, ot the bread that they put the persil ontop of! but otherwise deal with it.

We once had 3 yoghurts explode all over the fruit and veg...i claimed for the yogs but just washed the rest. Water...amazing stuff.

Shakirasma · 26/07/2013 10:23

Is the £5 in addition to a refund for the damaged items, or instead of?

If its in addition then YABU, if its instead of then YANBU.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 26/07/2013 10:24

Most my stuff is covered in something half the time. Blush

spudpudding · 26/07/2013 10:39

thanks for that we do have water!! that is so helpful!

£5 is for everything including all the squashed stuff - am still v disgruntled but will probably get over it soon, feeling so much better now I have posted this - thanks?!

At least they delivered it, more than Tesco managed with some of my shopping this morning...

coraltoes · 26/07/2013 10:46

you can request a refund for anything you cannot consume. if that doesnt total over £5 i dont see what the issue is. not really sure what you're wanting to claim?

glenthebattleostrich · 26/07/2013 10:53

Wow, we can't have a whinge about something on MN anymore! OP YABU for using Ocado, they won't deliver to some of us you know Wink

Use Sainsbury's OP, not had a breakage yet with them and their drivers are generally lovely :)

ILoveAFullFridge · 26/07/2013 10:54

£5 for that sounds perfectly reasonable.

We once had a carton of milk leak in the top crate of our Christmas shopping, and empty itself over every single crate in the stack (including several that were not ours). The driver took everything back immediately, even things that could have been washed. I would have washed tins etc, but the driver insisted that he could not leave milk-covered goods.

I had to go and do my Christmas grocery shop 2 days before Christmas, when not everything I wanted was available, and I didn't have the time to hunt - hence the carefully planned online shop - and I had to change my menus despite having pre-prepared lots.

Although Ocado refunded the cost of the shopping, they did not offer any compensation, not even a voucher off a future shop, until we pointed out that it was very poor customer service.

The previous year our Christmas shopping delivery had been cancelled at the last minute by snow.

Lesson learned: don't rely on online shopping for an important occasion!

livinginwonderland · 26/07/2013 10:56

Eh, if stuff is inedible or ruined, complain, but otherwise I don't see the issue.

I second the poster who said to use Sainsbury's, their home delivery is really good.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 26/07/2013 11:38

sainsburys delivered my shopping but the security lid was still on the bottle of apple sour ds had requested for a party. driver apologised but had to refund and take it away. I was a teeny bit miffed as it meant i would have to go to a shop before friday night for one or get an asda delivery so I e-mailed to flag it up as a training issue for the store as driver said he had a few like this in the same day. two days later they rang me and have refunded the return (obviously) and sent me a £5.00 voucher as a refund of the delivery charge.

MissStrawberry · 26/07/2013 11:45

Stop being precious. Flour won't damage anything. Wipe or wash it off.

4thfloor · 26/07/2013 11:54

I can see why you are annoyed. I never used to complain to companies but I do now ever since we received a shopping which included a bag of cat litter that had a hole in it.

Cat litter was everywhere, in most of the shopping but more annoyingly in a big trail from the van to my front door (communal hallway)

They refunded the cat litter (obs) and offered £5 off next shop. They eventually agreed to refund the delivery as well. I thought this was fair.

They should at least also refund your delivery charge as a goodwill gesture.

Ishouldanoticed · 26/07/2013 12:01

YANBU op , id be bloody annoyed as well , you shouldn't be having to wash all your shopping because somebody was incapable of packing the bags properly

Hegsy · 26/07/2013 12:24

YANBU, I've given up with online shops now. Last one I got from Tesco I got a phonecall telling me they had no drivers and could I go to store and pick it up. Which I did, but asked on the phone if my delivery charge would be refunded she uhhmmed and ahhhed and then said she would(should bloddy hope so!) Whilst at the store was left standing at customer services like a plum for about half an hour whilst 1 - the adviser at customer service chatted to the woman in front of me about her hair dye woes 2 - the boy who was getting our shopping came to get a pound coin for the trolley 3 - when I said I didn't want some of the substitutions was told I'd need to wait on a manager to refund them 4 after 15 mins waiting the manager phoned and said he would refund them later, I asked what proof of return I would get at this the boy went to print off a bit of reciept paper to write it down...... at this point I was apopoleptic so said forget was assured help out to car(assumed because they wanted there £1 back) but again just left standing so in the end we just left. DH took trolley back into them and no -one even acknowledged him.

RAGE! I did raise my issues in store but was told I would need to phone the online number because it was an online shop. Poor boy there got it the next night. Worse when he said he would get the STORE manager to phone me back. Store manager never called, I was getting ready to phone up again a couple of days later and just by chance looked at online banking. My full shop had been refunded....actually about £15 more because the first person who called me had also refunded the delivery charge and I had used vouchers to pay for some of it.

I still never heard from them but at least I got a substantial refund rather than £5 but the service was ridiculous. I still don't like Tesco but its the best of a bad bunch where I am. Hate Asda layout and find Morrisons super expensive.

QuintessentiallyOhDear · 26/07/2013 12:29

I feel for you.

I have learnt from my own thread here if you are interested as it is ridiculous that on MN you cannot moan over anything without getting a serious flaming, being accused of being difficult, and hear stuff like "how do you cope if something really bad happened, along with competitive poverty. Shortly, you will be told "at least you can afford a bag of flour".

Why do we get such responses when we moan about mishaps that are either costly, or give us extra work, due to poor customer service? Shall we not expect more?

SoupDragon · 26/07/2013 12:32

TBH, I don't count something covered in flour as being damaged.

I've had stuff refunded for being covered in milk but I only asked for the things that had been ruined - if it washed off or was just on a plastic pack it was inconvenient but fine IMO. I've also had crushed stuff refunded with no fuss.

SoupDragon · 26/07/2013 12:33

At least you can afford a bag of flour from Ocado

Wink

maja00 · 26/07/2013 12:34

I would check through everything on the doorstep and send it back if it was ruined.

Did you get refunded for all that stuff plus the voucher?

SoupDragon · 26/07/2013 12:34

Generally, I have no problem with things like this happening as mistakes are easy to make - it's how they are dealt with that is important.

Crinkle77 · 26/07/2013 12:45

What else do you want them to do. Accidents happen and they have given you £5 off your next time. I suppose they could refund you for the flour too but to be honest I think they have been fair.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 26/07/2013 12:48

This has happened to me several time with yogurt. It is disgusting. I guess the pickers are at fault rather than the drivers.

I find ocado v difficult to get hold of to complain in the phone. They want you to do it online now.
