Everytime I look on AIBU I see people complaining about smokers in public and how disgusting it it. If so many feel that strongly about it, maybe some of you should sign the below petition and get the idea debated in the house of commons. I hear the notion of a public smoking ban with only smoking allowed in designated areas works well in several US states. So well that people can't believe they let people smoke all over non-smokers for so long.

Ban Smoking In Public

Everyone knows smokers are more fun. I don't even smoke anymore, but I still hang out behind the bike sheds Wink

I've signed, I hate having to sit inside a boiling hot cafe at the moment as the smoke outside is too strong.

And for all those of you comparing the smell to barbecues, fried chicken shops, BO etc, the last I heard, you can't die from passively breathing in those smells!

However, perhaps a compromise would be just to ban smoking in and immediately around restaurants, cafes etc.

But you can increase your risk of developing colon cancer by eating too much barbecued food.

Flame grilling produces the same type of chemicals that are in tar.

I assume you want cars banned too then haven't

I'm not a smoker, I think it stinks, if I want to avoid it then I stay at home, or go indoors, or go to one of the millions of other places smoking is banned, I don't choose to go to one of the few places they are 'allowed' to congregate and smoke and then complain because I need to be in that exact location. Thats just silly.

What a load of old nonsense.

I don't smoke (anymore) but think this is completely unnecessary and over the top.

Anyway, clearly the government's decision not to implement blank cigarette packaging tells me that they are in no hurry to have smoking banned. The taxes on cigarettes bring in megabucks.

I don't think a legal ban on all public smoking is appropriate. But I don't like people smoking in public. I don't like their carcinogenic smoke filling my lungs when I'm wlaking along the street, I don't like the litter that goes along with it, I don't like the congregating around doorways and I don't like the fact that eating or drinking outside nowadays often means sitting it a fog of unpleasent carinogen. So I would welcome moves that make it more socially unacceptable in public, but I don't think new laws is the way to go at the moment.

ohh - sorry. Zombie thread. Not sure how that happened.
