So i was in town this morning with the Q7 (or the panzer tank as I call it) and i pulled up to a space. I reversed in a few times but i was always a bit squint. Eventually i left the car squint but still in the bay. I let out my kids and just while i locked the car this woman came over.

she said i should go back and straighten the car out because it was squint. I told her that if she had a q7 i would like to see her park it in such a tight space. She thought i was suggesting that she didn't have a big car because she was poor. i wasn't suggesting that at all. so she went into a long rant about me being disrespectful. i was shocked .

but i didn't shout too much cause i had two kids with me.

aibu to be annoyed at her.

I am put out at the number of badly parked cars one sees. yes, it may be within lines but if it is cock eyed within those lines, it either makes another space difficult to get into or means one can get in but then can't open one's door.

To me, to be unable to park without making a nuisance of oneself means that one cannot handle the car, which does not bode well for when that person is on a motorway or a winding country lane.

That to me makes them at best, selfish towards other road users and at worse, a danger on the roads.

Good drivers can park well, bad drivers can't. if the OP is crap at parking because her car is too big then get a smaller one otherwise, go to an instructor who will do his or her best to help them become better. if you are unable or unwilling to learn how to handle your car, stay off the road.

An inability to park is a clear demonstration that the driver has no idea how to handle the car and in my book, that means they should seek to remedy that or go on the bus!

Sorry, I've only skim read, but did you mention anywhere what make of car you drive?

[po-faced]

missmarplestmarymead · 22/07/2013 21:30

Yes, I did. I can park it. if I couldn't I wouldn't drive it. I think it is probably more expensive than the jeep the op was driving if that is what your po face was about.

I have no axe to grind, regarding the size of cars but I have an axe to grind about incompetents driving cars that they cannot handle, although I have no intention of parading that wound here.

I've only read your first few posts OP.

wtf is a Q7? Why can't you park it? I suggest you get a car you can park properly without annoying other road users.

A Q7 is a big fuck-off Audi. It's important to mention it's a Q7 in order to make it clear you're driving the more expensive bigger model Wink Grin

Oh for fucks sake it's only a big estate car. Why all the jealousy? Whether the op can park it or not wasn't the point of the thread and if someone came out ranting at me because I'd parked my car on the wonk I'd think they were unhinged too. Hmm

Incidentally I managed to right-hand parrallel park my new Freelander absolutely perfectly the other day and I was both smug and chuffed! Grin

I would class the Q7 as 'unnecessarily large' on my virtual Top Gear Cool Wall. Grin It's the sort that you can't see past when driving out of a car park space.

I think bobby that you could have explained the predicament by saying you had a big car. That's all. As opposed to a hatchback or something?

We've had cracking deals on display, take away today stuff in shops, even a built unit from the ikea sale bit that we just slid in, drove away and it was in situ within minutes of getting home.

I love watching people play car Tetris with the things they want to take home. I've never paid for delivery from a shop, or a rubbish uplift, can take the bikes anywhere, never hired a van and never worry about things fitting. I don't understand why everyone doesn't drive pick ups!

Oh I hate the tetrus outside ikea thing, have fell victim to that many times!!

Op yanbu at all, the weirdo woman who thinks she is the traffic police was! Enjoy your car, I have no idea what the negativity is about :-/

I have a van too, although one that would probably be approved of by the Mumsnet self-righteous jury. I love being able to fit anything and everything in it.

My DS's are 6'3 and I also have two DD and a DH. I think I could justify a bigger vehicle. Hmm

I always park perfectly even if it takes ages. But I drive a second hand Ford Fiesta that doesn't even have automatic windows let alone parking sensors. I'm jealous of OP's finances. But I hate that car. They're the ones most likely to tailgate IME.

Drives me fucking demented when people park their bloody great tanks wonky or over on one side - it means that the normal sized car in the adjoining space can't open their doors enough to get out of the damn thing without squeezing and wriggling like a snake shedding its skin. I have huffed, glared and occasionally muttered at people on occasion. Grin

I'm in Surrey, though, a county filled with immaculate blondes who can't park their enormous shiny vehicles, so I'm onto a losing wicket, really. Hmm
