NEXT Catalogues -ARGH!!

I like some things from Next, especially their children's clothes. I have even ordered some furniture from them. I tend to order online as there is no shop in the town I live, and as I am currently on maternity leave, it is easy to receive packages at home. All nice and good -except:

They keep sending me the massive hardback catalogues I do not want! I have called them at least twice to tell them so. Last time I called they told me if I don't want to receive them, I will have to call a number in an email they send upfront to cancel it. I hate this. I have to spend time and effort in calling some stupid number to cancel a catalogue I did not want in the first place -where is the sense in that? The biggest problem with the catalogues is, that they then send a bill for £3.95 for it afterwards, the other issue is that my recycling bin is already full as it is, I have no space for these books!

This morning I found their Autumn/Winter catalogue dumped in front of my door. I have received no upfront notification that would have allowed me to cancel it, and no doubt the £3.95 charge will appear on my online account soon. I have sent them a complaint -again. This infuriates me so much! Does anybody else have an issue with this?

It's part of their business model. They deliberately make it hard for you to cancel. They know that no-one really wants the bloody things. I had similar difficulties after buying one (horrible) item for my wedding and will never order from them again. I'm afraid they are filed with Bright House, payday lenders and cashback mobile phone deal merchants in my book Sad

Now your all going to hate me, but I absolutely love Next!!! I do two big orders a year out of the spring/summer and autumn/winter catalogues and order a few things inbetween as well, but I do think that its wrong to charge you £3.95 if you do buy alot from them, I think if you buy a certain amount over the course of a year they should'nt charge you for the catalogues. The amount I've spent in Next this year would help build two new branches.

eggsandwich the problem is for those of us who order online, why do they insists on sending us that mammoth of a catalogue and then charge us £3.95. Does it matter if I only order a couple of pieces of children clothing a year?

You might enjoy reading a large catalogue. I don't. I don't even enjoy reading a physical book or a physical magazine. I prefer it all paperless.

Apparntly it is possible to order from Next without opening an account. You just need to phone them with your order the first time, then they give you a customer number you use when you register your email address like you would other online shops. I tried to do this but the item I wanted was out if stock, the customer service lady did say it was ok but to have an account though.

You can avoid getting any catalogues if you mark the box saying no to catalogues when you do your first order. But the problem is it says it's FREE then in tiny print it says 'for the first catalogue, then the following catalogues are £x blah, blah, blah' or something like that.

It's quite tricky - I read it carefully and still almost missed it.
