NEXT Catalogues -ARGH!!

I like some things from Next, especially their children's clothes. I have even ordered some furniture from them. I tend to order online as there is no shop in the town I live, and as I am currently on maternity leave, it is easy to receive packages at home. All nice and good -except:

They keep sending me the massive hardback catalogues I do not want! I have called them at least twice to tell them so. Last time I called they told me if I don't want to receive them, I will have to call a number in an email they send upfront to cancel it. I hate this. I have to spend time and effort in calling some stupid number to cancel a catalogue I did not want in the first place -where is the sense in that? The biggest problem with the catalogues is, that they then send a bill for £3.95 for it afterwards, the other issue is that my recycling bin is already full as it is, I have no space for these books!

This morning I found their Autumn/Winter catalogue dumped in front of my door. I have received no upfront notification that would have allowed me to cancel it, and no doubt the £3.95 charge will appear on my online account soon. I have sent them a complaint -again. This infuriates me so much! Does anybody else have an issue with this?

Flipflopper Grin

Sorry, but that's funny in a 'non-funny' way...umm, I'm sure you know what I mean!

This is just SO frustrating!

This infuriates me too! I've cancelled the catalogues before but they still keep arriving, and they're huge. I don't think they can go in the normal paper recycling, can they?

ilovepowerhoop · 22/07/2013 10:20

I put mine in the recycling bin

ilovepowerhoop · 22/07/2013 10:21

or I used to until I successfully managed to cancel it!

AmayaBuzzbee · 22/07/2013 10:33

Ilove -I successfully cancelled mine too, until it started again. Have you checked your doorstep today?!

Like littlewhitebag I have ordered from Next online and never received a catalogue. It's possible there is a box to tick/untick during the ordering process to indicate that you don't wish to receive any catalogues and that she and I spotted it and opted not to receive any. Just an idea, as I do try to remember to look out for such things when ordering anything online.

NobodyPutsTomArcherInTheCorner · 22/07/2013 10:39

I seem to have to re-tell them every time I order from them.

I only order from them once or twice a year because I like their school trousers for dds. But inevitably the order seems to generate the flippin catalogues. I don't want or need something the size of a breeze block in my house.

Wbdn28 · 22/07/2013 10:41

I found this really annoying too! I don't order from NEXT any more. It was irritating to have to have an "account" instead of just paying for things upfront too.

Purpleknickers · 22/07/2013 10:45

This makes me ranty too I cancelled mine, then because I do not have a directory delivered I am not allowed access to the VIP Sale... I had my eye on some garden furniture but no way was I paying full price

They encourage us to stop paper statements but almost insist on us having the gigantic directory. I have lodged a complaint with the head office about this ... lets see if anything happens

ilovepowerhoop · 22/07/2013 10:47

my mum has had hers but (fingers crossed) none has been delivered here (yet!)

ilovepowerhoop · 22/07/2013 10:48

I still get invites to the VIP sale despite cancelling the catalogue - never find anything in the sale but that is not the point

MrsBri · 22/07/2013 10:57

Next have been told (I think by the Court) that they aren't allowed to send a catalogue they charge for without first asking if the customer wants it. It was mentioned during some lecture or other at law school a few years ago.

I did cancel mine when the email arrived, so we will see if they've paid attention to my call, I suppose. If they haven't I will have to get ranty with them.

And don't get me started on the bloody Next sale. They list loads of stuff on the website as available, so you select it, go to basket, then it's almost ALL out of stock. That makes me ranty too. :-/

freddiefrog · 22/07/2013 11:05

I cancelled my entire Next account as I got fed up with the catalogues and the charge. Everytime I got one, I phoned to cancel it, was assured it was cancelled, then another one would appear a few months later.

In the end I just shut down the whole account

AmayaBuzzbee · 22/07/2013 11:48

UPDATE: I received a phone call from NEXT (less than two hours from sending complaint email). The very nice sounding lady apologised profusely that a catalogue had been sent again despite me cancelling it in the past. She promised to cancel everything right there and then, and apparently no further catalogues will be sent to me ever again (we'll see).

She has also organised for somebody to come and pick up the catalogue that was left at my doorstep this morning. I can just leave it there tomorrow and it'll be picked up.

I have to say I am quite impressed with this customer service (speed, politeness and doing everything I asked for -including getting their catalogue back). Whether I will remain impressed will depend on what happens with the catalogues in future....

Yes, this has just happened to me. I've already told them I don't want it, and yet here it is again.

NobodyPutsTomArcherInTheCorner · 22/07/2013 11:54

Mind you their delivery is usually pretty impressive.

CHJR · 22/07/2013 12:16

They cannot by law charge you for unsolicited goods (including a catalogue). If you're getting a paper bill, write on it, if online only, print it out and write on that: "I did not request a catalogue and will not pay for it." Mail this back. Worked for me: they've never sent me another catalogue.

flipflopper · 22/07/2013 12:44

I have also received a phone call (hate it when people respond to an email by phone call), anyway she apologised and promised I wouldn't get any more.
Also it will be collected tomorrow.

SirChenjin · 22/07/2013 13:09

I just phoned Next and spoke to a very lovely and helpful person in senior customer team no less! She didn't try and argue or justify, just apologised, cancelled my directory forthwith, and promised to refund the charge.

lemonmuffin · 22/07/2013 13:11

Thanks CHJR. I will try that and hopefully get rid of them.

ArthurCucumber · 22/07/2013 13:15

I don't understand why, when I can order online from a huge variety of stores and pay right away, I can't order from Next without opening an account with them and then getting their stupid catalogues. Fortunately, the quality of anything I've bought in the last few years has been so crap that I closed down my account. Job done!

lemonmuffin · 22/07/2013 14:30

What number did you ring SirChenjin?

SirChenjin · 22/07/2013 16:15

Just the general number - 0844 844 8000 - and then pressed option 3.

lemonmuffin · 24/07/2013 15:17

thanks, will try that.
