I don't get it. I just don't...

Some would say that there must be something wrong with me to not agree with it... but I don't get it, I just think no... not for a baby..

Most of the pictures are of toddlers though, which is a bit different. My 5yo mithered me for a bikini fpr ages and I kept saying no, then SIL got her a horrid lurid pink one for her birthday Hmm I let her wear it in the garden and on the beach, and actually it is much more practical in terms of her being able to go to the toilet etc. So I am now a bit of a convert!

It doesn't look comfy for the baby, as others have pointed out. I don't think it's possible to sexualise a baby, though I would never put DD in this! She has a two piece but both pieces are big and comfy.

YANBU that is twisted and truly fucked up. I am unsure why anyone with an ounce of common sense would put their young daughter in a bikini.

I wouldn't put my baby in one. But what other people put their baby in for swimming, I don't really care. Dd (3) has a few cute two pieces but they are full pants and longer tops.

guineapig I put my young daughter in a bikini because its easier for her to go to the toilet herself esp when its wet. I'm neither twisted nor fucked up.

jacknone

Did you look at the links?

Is it a triangular string bikini that you put your DD in or a two piece?

Just asking as I think there is a huge difference between the two....

I really don't see the need to put a string bikini top on a baby...

Yes and I don't like the string bikini on a baby.

But I also don't like the comments from several posters that small children shouldn't wear a 2 piece. This is a world away from the baby in a string bikini.

Oh right, I think guinea pig was referring to the string bikini on the baby when using 'twisted and fucked up'

I think 2 pieces are lovely. String bikini's are totally Shock IMO.

Maybe you're right... I took 'young daughters' to mean little girls rather than babies.

Tankinis - no problem, quite sensible. I had one of those back in the early 1970s!
String bikinis with triangle boob-coverers for babies with no boobs - WRONG.

And that's where the sexualisation bit comes in - the suggestion of boobs where there are none.

Very disturbing. Almost more disturbing is the fact that some posters on this thread don't find it disturbing !

I agree it's a world away from a talking style two piece, which is only a two piece for reasons of practicality.

Tankini not talking... A talking bikini would be interesting though...

thumb witch I think you've hit the nail on the head there for me. THAT is why I was Shock when I saw it. I just didn't know how to word it.

But why is a swimsuit, which is also designed purely to cover breasts, OK? No men wear them, thus the design is breast related and thus just as bad as any bikini.

Why is it easier for a baby/toddler to wear a bikini than just the swim bottoms? Mine had nappy type bikini bottoms and didn't worry about covering their tops at all and plenty of littlies on the beach were like that- and some naked ones as well.

For older girls, I love the tankini styles, very sensible, I don't want my 9/10 year old in a frilly bikini, it sends a weird message out and invites people to think she's older than she is.

Looks totally wrong - my DD is 6 and its s one piece swimming costume here. Children should be children for as long as they are children!!

Thumb witch - just read your post and couldn't have put it better myself.

They're a bit garish aren't they, and not exactly practical. Not sure there's any advantages to putting a baby/toddler in a bikini rather than a tankini/two piece. Surely it's more of a faff?

Surely the easiest and most sensible solution is swimming trunks/shorts (or just a swim nappy) and either nothing or a light t-shirt?

Soupdragon, I get the feeling you're playing devil's advocate here but I'd just like to let you know that my DSs both wear one piece swimsuits that cover their whole bodies. It's far safer that way. As DS1 gets older, he'll move to trunks and a t-shirt/longsleeve shirt top. When he's old enough to go swimming on his own, then he can decide to go topless.

Hmm YANBU my dd is 1 and throughout this hot weather she has been wearing the uv sun suits or shorts and t shirt and sat in the shade nearly all the time
That bikini is ridiculous at that age. Once out of nappies fine but even then not the top just pants or a swimsuit.
