to want to take her pushchair back up the fucking stairs

On the tube recently, a woman with a push chair was struggling to get it down the stairs. An old man picked up one end of it to help her. Being a younger gentleman I offered to take it from him. I carried it down to the bottom of the stairs. The woman then just turned and walked off with the pushchair. No "thank you", no smile, no eye contact. Nothing.

I cant believe someone would be that rude.

Disgusting behaviour.

well that's rude, to be h

thebody · 19/07/2013 21:36

ooh, to be honest most people are very grateful for a hand.

maybe she was depressed/ foreign.. don't know but yes very rude.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 19/07/2013 21:41

Murdering all your neighbours, chopping them up and composting them to feed your begonias is disgusting behaviour.

Maybe she didn't feel she was struggling and didn't actually want someone to lift her pushchair down the stairs.

IDontBowlOnShabbos · 19/07/2013 21:44

Seriously, why do you care?!

tiggerpigger · 19/07/2013 21:47

She clearly needed help, she was stuck at the top of the stairs until the old man helped her.

Why do I care?? Do you not attach any importance to manners?

TidyDancer · 19/07/2013 21:47

Idontbowl - are you for real? The OP did a nice thing and was treated quite rudely. I would imagine that's why he cares....

IDontBowlOnShabbos · 19/07/2013 21:50

Of course, but I wouldn't give it a second thought if someone didn't act in the same way I would. People are rude sometimes, you did a nice thing, it wasn't appreciated. Move on.

tiggerpigger · 19/07/2013 21:51

Move on? I havent exactly put my life on hold because of it...

MrsBungle · 19/07/2013 21:52

She was very rude. You were nice to help her.

IDontBowlOnShabbos · 19/07/2013 21:53

Well you've obviously put enough thought into it to write your op Hmm

CitizenOscar · 19/07/2013 21:53

Nope. Rude. YANBU.

Miggs28 · 19/07/2013 21:55

On the tube people like you are very rare!! You did a very nice thing and she was rude not to thank you for stopping and helping.

ariane5 · 19/07/2013 21:55

YANBU

She was very rude.

On so many occasions I have struggled up/down stairs and would have been really grateful for help. Some people just have bad manners.

olidusUrsus · 19/07/2013 21:58

There's another tube/buggy thread going about a mum who couldn't get help, there are lots of calls of "awful", "make sure you can lift both buggy & baby next time", "passengers are usually more helpful than staff", etc.

On this thread someone who very kindly helped someone who was struggling gets told to "get over yourself".

Faakin' laavley.

miffybun73 · 19/07/2013 22:00

YANBU, she was very rude.

scottishmummy · 19/07/2013 22:00

Don't let ack of acknowledgement put you off future nice deeds
I agree an acknowledgement should have been forthcoming
Do continue the helping, plenty will say thanks

Lazyjaney · 19/07/2013 22:02

Idontbowl, did someone carry your pushchair down some stairs today?

tiggerpigger · 19/07/2013 22:02

Thanks!

Hasn't put me off being helpful in the slightest! Unless I happened to come across her again...

ImagineJL · 19/07/2013 22:04

YANBU, she was very very rude. But please don't let it put you off helping. When I took my two young kids to London for a weekend I was really grateful to all the lovely people who helped me with the buggy.

LadybirdsEverywhere · 19/07/2013 22:04

She was plain rude. Keep helping though!

IDontBowlOnShabbos · 19/07/2013 22:05

Lazy nope I had to bump it down by myself Sad
Bloody rude bastards!

Xmasbaby11 · 19/07/2013 22:07

Rude!

cafecito · 19/07/2013 22:12

Rude. But maybe she was very depressed or had just had a bereavement, in which case she may be feeling like it's a lot to ask to even be up in the morning rather than having to deal with jovial yet well meaning friendly helpful strangers

cafecito · 19/07/2013 22:12

I always help people on tubes, OP. It's just good manners. I don't see many people offering though, so do keep it up!

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 19/07/2013 22:15

Rude. I'm always grateful to anyone that helps.

I would have shouted 'you're welcome' after her.
