To be considering buying a girl's world

Dd - just turned 3 - cannot/will not fall asleep without playing with someone else's hair.

She is not fobbed off with woollen doll's hair.

I am thinking a random head in her bed may prove beneficial and stop me going insane.

Is this very wrong?

Get a wig for her to twiddle! Grin just place it on her pillow. Won't look scary at all!

dashoflime · 18/07/2013 23:44

Definately NU! I desperately wanted one of those as a kid

Buzzardbird · 18/07/2013 23:44

Brilliant idea that will be used again later, much better than a horse's head...less mess!

fatedtopretend · 19/07/2013 00:07

I may go to a pog shop tomorrow and buy one. My head is seriously suffering!!

My DSis bought one of these for her DD at the age of 4. I think she only grew out of it at about 10 Grin

AudrinaAdare · 19/07/2013 00:10

DD has had a few over the years. DH being a boy didn't know what they were called and I caught him telling MIL that DD had x, y and a disembodied head for Christmas. They are great though. Might get another one for me DS!

kali110 · 19/07/2013 00:32

What about head that trainee hairdressers use?

wigglesrock · 19/07/2013 07:30

We have one - dd uses it to practice on - I'm so bad with hair, she decided to take matters into her own hands at age 7 Blush

My 2 year old is a hair fiddler at bed time but it needs to be attached to a human head or its not as much fun Hmm

I kept thinking of the Girls' World I had in the late seventies every time I saw Leah Totton on The Apprentice...

Turniptwirl · 19/07/2013 09:59

I loved my girls world!

Faerieinatoadstool · 19/07/2013 13:13

I had one of those, I fed all it's make up to the dog then hid it in the bottom of my wardrobe because it worried me. Give me a digger or racing car any day!

my son did this for years (now 10). I bought him hair wefts from Ebay at about £6 a time. he's been through a few, one flew out the window whilst driving along the motorway Shock and now he just tends to twiddle his own hair and go all dreamy.

HatieKokpins · 19/07/2013 13:44

I loved my Girl's World! I'm now a beauty editor as a result.

ummlilia · 19/07/2013 14:06

my sister and I had those, one blonde ,one brunette. My daughter (9) used to pull my hair but now has waist length hair herself and twiddles it in her sleep..I have to unknot it every morning..

unlucky83 · 19/07/2013 14:07

My DD1 got one at about 5-6 yo because she became obsessed with brushing and playing with hair (and I couldn't stand the pain anymore)
It did come from Santa though - cos Mummy hates stuff like that and would never buy one Wink Grin

SueDoku · 19/07/2013 15:47

My daughter was desperate for one when she was little - but we hadn't got the money to buy one for her Sad

The day that she went to the school jumble sale and bought one for 20p was the highlight of her life Grin Grin Grin

DramaAlpaca · 19/07/2013 15:57

OMG I had one of those! I didn't know they were still around (I only have boys!)

Back in the 70s they came with a very fetching choice of blue or green eye make up & a little booklet giving examples of looks you could do for hair & make up. I remember "Party Girl" & "Sporty Girl". They were horrible, even for the 70s Grin

Do they still have the "growing" ponytail that comes out of the top of their head? I cut the ponytail off mine at some point, so ruining the effect completely, and I tried using my mother's powder eyeshadow on it when I got bored with the lovely blue & green, and the blasted stuff wouldn't ever wash off so she had a stained face forever.

GiveMeStrength2day · 19/07/2013 16:13

I still have mine from the 70s - sounds very much like DramaAlpaca's
DD has very long hair and I'm always Youtubing different ways of plaiting it. I use my Girl's World head to practice on! Grin

greeneyed · 19/07/2013 16:27

I am still traumatised that I never got a girls world as a child. My relationship with my mother has suffered as a result and I still bring it up regularly. I think I need professional help. Buy one!

wigglesrock · 19/07/2013 16:34

My mum wouldn't let us have one either Smile That's why my daughters got one Wink

Pawprint · 19/07/2013 16:37

I am a hair twiddler too, have been all my life. I used to suck my thumb and twiddle my hair. The thumb sucking has gone, but the twiddling has continued.

Would she like something silky and soft to settle her, rather than hair? A silk hankie?

Otherwise, I echo the others - get a wig :)

I always wanted a Girl's World. My mother thought they were hideous so I didn't ask her for one. I really wanted one because I was fascinated by make up.

GummyLopes · 19/07/2013 16:41

Woollen doll's hair?

kikerifreedomcastle · 19/07/2013 16:43

I think the new versions aren't great quality (was looking at one for a gift last year). Perhaps try to find vintage.

greeneyed · 19/07/2013 19:14

Surely all vintage ones have no hair left and felt pen all over their faces, from over enthusiastic hairdresser/make up artists? That's what mine would have ended up like if I'd had one.
