Those stringy bits on the sides make me shudder, and the texture when it goes all squishy in your mouth, and the little bits at either end 😮

Oh my. I have three in the fruit bowl that were to be made into banana pudding this afternoon prior to the shopping coming this evening and new bananas arriving.

I wonder if it's safe to go into the kitchen now.

ballroomblitz · 18/07/2013 11:31

Yanbu for all your reasons and the fact I got crippling, bent over double stomach cramps when I used to eat them.

pollywollydoodle · 18/07/2013 11:35

folkgirl Shock
am going to check the weight of every banana from now on!

btw i buy up loads of blackening bananas for cakes and milkshakes ....yum

and if you split open rather than peel you don't get strings/black bits

pollywollydoodle · 18/07/2013 11:37

so ywbu until bugs were introduced into the equation Smile

notso · 18/07/2013 11:38

I hate them, I want to like them but I just can't.
DH and DC practically live on them, I hate finding the weird banana strings around when the little ones have been eating them.
Just talking about them has made me claw my hands!

Foxred10 · 18/07/2013 11:43

YANBU they stink to high heaven and turn into black sticky mush when the lovely children wipe their scummy banana hands everywhere! Gads.

TheHandbagOfGlory · 18/07/2013 11:47

YANBU, I hate the feeling of them, the texture, the smell, just everything.

DH eats them though I have threatened divorce if he leaves the skin and the stringy bits on a plate for me to clear away Angry the horror!

LokiTheCynicalCat · 18/07/2013 11:48

ANormalOne - that banana phobia is either fairly common, or you and I are good mates... Grin

DXBMermaid · 18/07/2013 11:53

So this is where we fellow bananaphobics can gather! Finally a banana free zone Grin

They are extremely disgusting. I stopped eating them when my brother was young and ate them without closing his mouth... Then my Dad made it worse by telling my how if you step on a ripe one it will come out through your toes.

Writing this has just made me boak a little

SarahStrattonIsBackForJustABit · 18/07/2013 11:58

There wasn't any photos supporting the banana bug though, was there?

I love bananas, practically live on them. Grin

Horopu · 18/07/2013 12:01

I don't like them, it is mostly the texture. When I took up eating 1 a day for Lent years ago I found that the ones with the right texture for me eat without throwing up made my teeth feel funny, as if they were coated in something.

I'm all for banana milkshakes though.

ouryve · 18/07/2013 12:02

I don't eat a lot of fruit, but love my daily banana with my breakfast.

I even have a mental playlist of narner songs. My favourite being "Hush".

JollyHolidayGiant · 18/07/2013 12:04

I was thinking about bananas this morning. We are currently going through 15 a week (2 adults, 1 toddler). And they are cheap. Got 8 big ones for less than £1.50 today. Therefore I think bananas are great. Healthy too. DS would rather snack on a banana than a sweetie.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 18/07/2013 12:05

Bananas are lovely fried in butter and orange juice and brandy

Lovely to see you Sarah Smile

LessMissAbs · 18/07/2013 12:08

YANBU. I've never been able to bring myself to actually eat one. They are disgusting. I hate the smell and seeing other people eat them. I think I have a phobia of them.

notso · 18/07/2013 12:14

Jolly we can go through 40 a week (DH, and 4 DC), more if DH makes Banoffi pie, banana milkshakes or we have pancakes!

ANormalOne · 18/07/2013 12:17

Oooooo Loki interesting.

AtYourCervix · 18/07/2013 12:25

Nasty. Nasty. Nasty.

Fruit should be crunchy and/or juicy. Bananas are neither.

And they make my teeth feel fuzzy.

Nasty.

SarahStrattonIsBackForJustABit · 18/07/2013 14:29

We (DD2 and I) get through 4 large bunches a week. Easily 20-30 bananas. Yum, yum, yum.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 18/07/2013 14:34

My DS loves bananas. I get regular 'nana nana' requests. We have to limit them else he'd eat them all the time and it's not good to eat too many!

hiddenhome · 18/07/2013 14:39

bananas here

ipswichwitch · 18/07/2013 14:51

DS loves bananas to the point where he gets hysterical if he sees them and cant eat them.
they are great though, as he can be fobbed off with one when he demands sweets/chocolate/ice cream

bigbluebus · 18/07/2013 14:55

I hate them too. Never comes across so many people in one place who detest them before. DS also hates them - DH blames me for influencing him.
It is just the texture I can't abide. I am quite happy to eat something banana flavoured - although that probably tastes nothing like real bananas.
I remember DS doing fruit tasting in the infants. I had filled in the consent form to say he could eat everything, but wrote on it that DS will not eat bananas. Bloody teacher made him try some - and DS promptly threw up. School rang me to collect him as they thought he had a tummy bug. It was only when I got him home that I got the full story off DS, I was Angry. I made a point of telling the teacher when I sent him back the next day.
Bought some bananas in Tesco the other day for DH. They were "Eat Me" Bananas - I mean what the hell else are they for? don't answer that question
