AIBU to be furious and go home?

My friend moved back from Houston to London three weeks ago and was very keen to meet me as we haven't seen each other since Christmas. I was on holiday and just returned this week. She was very eager to meet me tonight and despite me still being jet-lagged and tired I went all the way to see her. Well, I am where we supposed to meet now but she doesn't turn up. She was supposed to be here 30 minutes ago and I got a text from her she is still at a BBQ and won't be here before 10pm. I am furious. It took me 90 minutes to get here and it will take me the same time back again. I am tired and could really use the time for something else.

AIBU to just take the train back again and ignore her?

Fuck that, go home and don't tell her.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 13/07/2013 22:06

Update please!

And YANBU, obviously.

youarewinning · 13/07/2013 22:07

That is beyond rude Shock

I hate when people think you have nothing better tondo than sit around waiting for them - so show her you don't!

Butterwouldnotmelt · 13/07/2013 22:09

what a fucking rude cow! And a selfish thoughtless rude cow at that.

I'd definitely go home

EhricLovesTeamQhuay · 13/07/2013 22:13

What a cow! Please tell me you went home!

Lepreporn · 13/07/2013 22:15

That is beyond rude. Hope you're at home having a nice cool drink and a rest.

Cheek!!

SelectAUserName · 13/07/2013 22:46

I would go home (and hope you're well on the way by now, OP) but I wouldn't be as equally rude as her. Why stoop to her level? I would have sent a text in reply saying "I'm hurt and disappointed to discover I'm so low on your list of priorities. Don't bother leaving your BBQ, I'm going home" or similar.

Sometimes I think some of the suggested courses of action on here are more concerned with scoring points in some hypothetical cosmic game then they are in helping real people deal with other real, if flawed, people. Just because one person acts like a twat doesn't mean oneuptwatship is the answer. Moral high ground, anyone?

freddiesmybaby · 13/07/2013 22:54

I would be sooo pissed off. I HATE late people, and I've told people who are continually late that its rude. Go home.

ZillionChocolate · 13/07/2013 22:56

I agree with Select. Even if you are points scoring, you lose some (and take the wind out of your own sails) for talking to her at a later date.

M0naLisa · 13/07/2013 22:58

Yes go home!!!!

Ifcatshadthumbs · 13/07/2013 22:59

I wouldn't stay (but would probably text and say I was leaving)

LouiseSmith · 13/07/2013 23:23

How rude!!! Go home and rest up !

ProperStumped · 13/07/2013 23:25

What happened OP?

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 13/07/2013 23:25

Gobbolino. Pure genius Grin

Op YANBU. Go home and get some sleep!

PerchedOnMyPeddleStool · 13/07/2013 23:26

The OP is on the piss with her buddy having a great time.

BloggingAboutTediousThings · 14/07/2013 07:54

Thanks for all your replies. Sorry for my late reply, phone ran out of battery last night. I was waiting for the train but she phoned me four minutes before the train was meant to depart and said she was on her way. She finally turned up at 10:20pm and expected me to pay for the drinks Shock I ordered still water. Smile I wish I would have gone home. She thinks living in the US for a year makes her super special. 'Is it table service or do you have to get the drinks yourself? Sorry, but I lived too long in the US.' Well, a year is hardly long enough to forget that.

Argh, I am annoyed I wasted time and money to get there and my nerves of course.

She was 1 hour 20 minutes late and she expected you to pay for the drinks? faints

Smoolett · 14/07/2013 08:07

I can't believe you went back, I wouldn't have answered the phone and still got on the train and gone home.

FruOla · 14/07/2013 08:13

I'm nearly speechless at all of this Shock. I would be utterly incandescent.

Agree with what Goblin said, "That is one of the rudest things I have ever read on mumsnet".

dexter73 · 14/07/2013 08:14

I wouldn't have gone back either as I would have been fuming by that point.

KatoPotato · 14/07/2013 08:18

No no no! So does she feel all is okay now? She sounds truly awful and you can do better! LTBitch

pictish · 14/07/2013 09:42

Well...next time you'll know better, if nothing else.

Whothefuckfarted · 14/07/2013 11:08

Oh my god you are a total walkover. You should have said "Sorry I'm already on the train home"
