What's your opinion?
I personally think its horrible, looking wise and for the poor baby to go through and has no choice.
6 weeks old!!!!! How can that be aloud!!!!!!!!!!!? Is there any law on this!?

It's mutilation Sad

Why would someone do this to a newborn baby?

healthyoption77 · 09/07/2013 22:24

many babies are have their ears pierced at birth where in my dh's country. My Mil was trying to persuade to get dd's done. I gave dh a Hmm face and said no bloody way. She can have her ears pierced when she is older and can take care of them herself.

I remember getting mine done at 15 and it really hurt. I can't imagine doing that to a newborn Sad

AtYourCervix · 09/07/2013 22:26

Whatever happened to YunoYurbubson?

MrsPercyPig · 09/07/2013 22:26

Putting holes in another human's body is not acceptable, unless they consent.

Unless that human is a consenting one, ear piercing is wrong- end of.

A newborn baby does not consent to have holes pierced in its ears.

SolidGoldBrass · 09/07/2013 22:27

It's revolting. And 'culture' is not an excuse. I see no reason to be sensitive to primitive bullshit like mutilating babies for 'cultural' reasons.

Once the child is old enough to understand that it's going to hurt, and the piercing is going to need careful handing for a few weeks, it's up to the child, but doing it to babies marks the parents out as primitive morons.

expatinscotland · 09/07/2013 22:28

There is even one about neighbours toking in their garden, usual. Let's get there quick, they are calling the police!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is not aloud.

gordyslovesheep · 09/07/2013 22:36

but some babies are ugly and need all the help they can get - earings can distract from a large nose or bad hair

miaowmix · 09/07/2013 22:37

Threads like this make me almost wish I had pierced my dd's ears when she was a newborn*. It's. not. that. bad. Small stuff and sweating it, so boring.

But some people on this site agree with Katie Hopkins and think children should only ever be called Tom and Anna, so I shouldn't be surprised.

*Of course I didn't, I'm far too fucking middle class ;)

BlackeyedSusan · 09/07/2013 22:41

HOUSE!!

discusting and rediculous was my fave hun Grin

AtYourCervix · 09/07/2013 22:42

Gordy I agree.

And if your babba looks like a boy, even in pink frocks, isn't earrings such a simple way to show it's a girl?

gordyslovesheep · 09/07/2013 22:43

exactly Cervix - how are you supposed to be able to tell the baldy ones are girls? some moms wont even buy them a pretty head band or a baby wig - poor kids

ScarletLady02 · 09/07/2013 22:49

I suppose it's better than stapling a bow to their head...

gordyslovesheep · 09/07/2013 22:51

well perciesly - have you ever tried doing a weave on baby fine hair

Reenypip · 09/07/2013 22:53

Just giving my personal reasons for not having my newborn ears pierced and wanted to hear other views too.

Other people can do what they want to do.

Do all piercing places allow newborns with adult consent? Or is it preference on the company/person? I just didn't know a newborn could.

And yes the topic is 'small' stuff. It's just conversation, opinions, views, talking, chatting.

Whatever the topic I like hearing what people's views are.

Reenypip · 09/07/2013 22:54

Cervix and Gordy, isn't that being a little sexist ? Boys can have ears pierced too :-)

ScarletLady02 · 09/07/2013 22:55

A weave would be difficult on baby hair it's true...

Minifingers · 09/07/2013 22:56

It's not asseptable. Grin

propertyNIGHTmareBEFOREXMAS · 09/07/2013 22:57

Because some people are thick. Thick as fuck. Hth Smile

Swallowing · 09/07/2013 23:02

"a lot of brown people do it" Grin
My brown Aunty got mine done when I was very little, my not-brown mother nearly imploded. And then got over it, it is just earrings.

TERRICOVERLEYDoSAC · 09/07/2013 23:13

A colleague once drew the connection between this tradition and minority communities in mainland Europe with a history of having to flee persecution without warning (including Gypsy communities) - jewellery being used as a way of guaranteeing at least some portable assets available to help secure an individual's safe passage.

foreverondiet · 09/07/2013 23:19

I doubt the pain is any worse than the countless injections we impose on our babies.... My main objections are that a) with growth it may transpire that the holes end up in the wrong place b) risk of earrings getting caught of something like hairbrush c) that child should be able to consent that she wants it done d) risk of infections and allergies

Spanglish31 · 09/07/2013 23:54

I live in Spain, and the norm here is that nearly every baby girl leaves hospital 3 days after being born wearing tiny pearl earrings. My daughter didn't and believe it or not had to withstand about 2 years of people asking me if she was a boy or girl (I kid ye not, pink clothes, dresses etc, hello?)
I don't think it's awful, or mutilation, just unnecessary. Babies are beautiful and in my opinion, don't need holes in their ears to add decoration.

Buzzardbird · 10/07/2013 00:28

Oh, but it makes them look so sophisticated!
