To think that the British just don't know how to dress for summer?

Me included.

During the heat wave, I don't think I've seen a single person dressed nicely/appropriately. Same when I've been abroad. I fully accept that it might just be where I live/go on holiday, btw.

I just don't think that the British can do summer clothes very well. Maybe because we don't get that much of it? And what is this thing for men wandering around public areas without a top on? When did that become acceptable?! Confused You don't see the men of Greece or Italy wandering around the streets without a top. It makes for grim viewing.

Am I being a miserable twat?

Ohhh nice.

I was driving to pick DH up earlier and was stopped at the lights. A boy/man was walking along the road, shirtless with tight tailored shirts on. They were so low you could see his pubes Shock. DD was horrified and loudly informed me of this, just as he walked past her open window Hmm.

LtEveDallas · 08/07/2013 19:27

All day I have been wearing THIS including combat boots and wooly socks.

I'm now wearing THIS
After a few nervous moments at 6 O'Clock worrying that my sock marks wouldn't go before I had to go and pick DD up Grin

I'm wearing denim shorts to just above my knee, a vest top and canvas shoes. I dont think I look to bad.

Well the sweat seems to ruin the look Grin

raisah · 08/07/2013 20:23

I always wear long floaty skirts, dresses & tops in light weight fabrics with as much flesh covered up as possible. A friend of mine used to make a big deal out of it until I mentioned that bare flesh in this weather is like sticking meat under a hot grill! She promptly shut up! I don't mind what other people wear as long as they don't lecture me about my choices.

BadgersRetreat · 08/07/2013 20:59

DH and i are always mistaken for Germans on holiday. Not sure why that is. Because we are tall and fair i guess.

My problem is that my top half goes a lovely golden brown ...and my legs stay blue/grey. So i have to fake tan the bottom half to match the top. Frankly it's a PITA.

i don't understand why you see so much sunburn either - just slap a bit of sunscreen on ffs!

KevinFoley · 08/07/2013 21:43

What we get wrong is too much colour and grim lurid prints. All clashing against bright red skin. Too much flesh on display and clothes too small. Muted or plain colours and loose, sleeved tops over slimline linen trousers are so flattering. If I see one more billowing, ship in full sail, strapless, lurid maxi dress worn pulled halfway up a fat sunburned back I will need to bleach my eyes.

ouryve · 08/07/2013 22:23

I can't remember who linked to this, earlier, but I hadn't got around to closing the window. It's just occurred to me that either the model is really suffering in the heat, or she's off her tits and about to lamp someone. Slightly over-dressed for the Bigg Market, mind.

ouryve · 08/07/2013 22:25

Because, even in 2012, so many people are convinced that you need to "get a sunburn" in order to get a tan.

SquinkiesRule · 08/07/2013 22:29

I like that dress tits Looks a bit clingy to be cool enough to wear out, but in the evening it would look lovely to go out somewhere nice.
I think you might be onto something there Kevin Too much skin, to tight wild colours do look strange and uncomfortably hot.
I will stick to my Capris, I had some like these on today in beige www.kohls.com/product/prd-1324896/croft-barrow-cargo-capris.jsp?crosssell=true not skinny tight but comfortable kind, for anything over 20, even up to 40, I was still wearing the same clothes, I don't wear a ton less just cause it's topped 40 or I'd be naked. If it get down below 20 I add a cardie or thin fleece.

JackNoneReacher · 08/07/2013 22:34

I don't know which is worse, bra straps biting into burnt flesh or saggy boobs.

Burmillababe · 08/07/2013 22:35

Even in this weather I wear jeans/trousers, boots and socks! I dress the same winter and summer because i generally cba!

burberryqueen · 08/07/2013 22:59

there is a massive hole in the ozone layer - I used to tan nicely brown and still do in Spain or Greece, today here in sunny Wales, dressed in my sensible jeans and tshirt i have lobster red forearms....must buy sunscreen...

KobayashiMaru · 08/07/2013 23:05

I can (and recently have) got burned despite factor 50 suncream.

SprinkleLiberally · 08/07/2013 23:24

I think I do ok in summer at weekends but work is difficult isn't it? Supposed to look professional but don't want to roast.

FeegleFion · 08/07/2013 23:32

lustybusty that would be moi Wink

Umm, I bought the dress for £35 fucking pounds from a local rip-off merchant 'boutique' about 2 years ago and cut the label off pretty much straight away, as it annoyed the back of my neck, but I'm pretty sure it's a UK 10. It could well have been a 12 or 14 though, as sometimes my massive busty Wink dictates it.

I'm 7 months post baby and definitely bigger now than I was then, with even bigger breasts but it fits. Sorry that's no use whatsoever...neither is the next nugget Blush I hunted in my sewing box and every other conceivable place I could think for a tape measure but I couldn't find either my fabric or metal one. So cant give you a measurement Sorry. I can however tell you this exact dress is a maxi dress for us short arses. It is just a nice length for me and I'm a tidgy 5' 3".

I know I'm the bearer of shite news, but I didn't want to ignore your post.

EliotNess · 09/07/2013 00:41

Lol at living in Italy. I read it as "linen clad people who have fabulous cocks"

EliotNess · 09/07/2013 00:45

Every dress linked to in here is vile

IneedAsockamnesty · 09/07/2013 01:33

I started the day looking very civilised but by 11am was unfortunately clad in a denim mini skirt,

My only explanation for this weird occurrence is ......... hay fever being 5 months pregnant forgetting any type of knicker protection not having time to go home or being near to a shop DD happened to have a skirt and clean knickers in her bag and in between pointing and laughing at me offered me the items.

EmmaBemma · 09/07/2013 06:09

"my motto is 'wear what the fuck you want'"

Amen to that! I could scarcely be more covered up if I wore a burka due to my fetching blue-white skin, but I really couldn't give a rat's ass what other people wear when the sun's out.
