to think not everyone loves the sun?

especially as I am not a huge fan of it.

I bowed to peer pressure earlier and went for a walk then sat in a field to read my Kindle. I rarely sweat but it was dripping off my forehead onto the Kindle - it was that hot. I was sticky, itchy from the grass, and uncomfortable. So I went home and sat INSIDE with the fan on.

And all I've heard is people bleating about "wasting" a sunny day.

I realise if you like the heat, great (dad is a great sun-worshipper) but AIBU to think not everyone likes glaring sunshine, flies buzzing round you, sticky, sweaty weather? And can't those who DO like it enjoy it in their own way and let me enjoy it in mine?

Of course YANBU

No-one has to like anything

I love the sun but I've grown allergic to it, so I tend to sit in the shade and just enjoy the outdoors.

ParadiseChick · 07/07/2013 22:35

I agree. My son doesn't enjoy roasting hot days. A mild out overcast day he's out for hours on his bike, in the garden etc but on days like today he only child with little bursts before seeking shade! So many people have popped in today and commented on how he sold be out enjoying the sun. How can he when he doesn't bloody enjoy it?

emeraldgirl1 · 07/07/2013 22:37

YADNBU

I am a Scrooge-like curmudgeon when it comes to the sun: I burn, I sweat, I itch.

Give me a bright chilly day any time.

Actually to be fair it's not the sun I hate, it's the heat.

TeaCuresEverything · 07/07/2013 22:38

Sorry but I adore the sun! We only get about 3 days like this a year so I say enjoy them; you've the whole of the rest of the year to get over it!

Sallyingforth · 07/07/2013 22:39

Each to their own. If you don't like it, stay indoors. Personally I've been maximising my vitamin D intake - in the garden wearing just factor 50 and filling in the white patches.

steppemum · 07/07/2013 22:40

YANBU

but the coolest place in our house is in the garden under the tree in the shade
I am on the lookout for a sun lounger to sleep on read the sunday papers on under the tree Grin

defineme · 07/07/2013 22:41

I spent much of the day indoors-took the kids to a lovely empty pottery painting cafe and then they played in the garden on water slide whilst I cleaned and then watched tennis. I don't feel like I missed out on anything.

blackbirdatglanmore · 07/07/2013 22:45

It's fine if you enjoy the sun! I am genuinely pleased if you love it - get out there and love it!

but don't give me a hard time because I don't.

paradise same used to happen to me as a kid, especially on holiday. My parents took it as a personal affront when I was desperately seeking shade Grin

YANBU

I've spent most of today inside, with occasional forays into the garden. Perfect.

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 07/07/2013 22:53

You want to try having hay fever.

Every other bugger is going, ooh, sun, how lovely! while your head explodes with snot and itchiness and itchy snot.

Bastard sunshine. Angry

LuisSuarezTeeth · 07/07/2013 22:54

Ugh YANBU. I loathe hot weather. I tan really easily which makes people think I am a sun worshipper. If I have to be out I am plastered in SPF 30 and I sweat buckets.

I do like fine weather but have no desire to go and bake to a crisp. Hot days like today are spent finding strategies for keeping cool. Dreading tomorrow at work Sad

LuisSuarezTeeth · 07/07/2013 22:56

Boulevard me too! I love the phrase itchy snot - describes it perfectly.

DoodleAlley · 07/07/2013 22:59

I love sunny days I hate hot days.

I also hate hay fever especially when my medication is limited due to breastfeeding.

DD is 12 weeks and already shows a similar disposition to me. Clammy breastfeeding - fun!!

Because I love the sun I always feel like I should enjoy these days more and have missed out by being indoors. Having read your post, however, I'm going to start embracing the fact that it's the sun not the heat and a day indoors when it's like this isn't a wasted day.

wharrgarbl · 07/07/2013 23:11

Ugh no, not at all U - I moved to the northern hemisphere from Australia partly to get away from the heat.

WildlingPrincess · 07/07/2013 23:14

I like going out if I can sit in the shade. I get hot and sweaty far too easily though.

imademarion · 07/07/2013 23:39

I spent the first couple of decades of my life in really hot countries.

I never went outside when it was really hot for exactly the reasons you describe.

It's uncomfortable and debilitating; indoors is cool and civilised.

I do like the smell you get at dusk on a hot day, though, and the just-showered freshness of everyone at dinner.

I'd like to build a shady veranda to use for thirteen days a year

Lj8893 · 07/07/2013 23:44

I usually love the sun and a hot day! But this summer I'm pregnant and am literally melting at the slightest hint of any heat. I am not enjoying this heat at all.

And don't even get me started on the hayfever!

minouminou · 08/07/2013 00:07

That massive fusion reactor in the sky can shit off.

I hate the heat.....I can't function properly above 18-19C.

mercury7 · 08/07/2013 00:36

I love summer weather, but I stay in the cool for the hottest part of the day

squoosh · 08/07/2013 00:39

I like 22C as my maximum.

IRCL · 08/07/2013 01:29

YANBU.

I hate it when it's too hot. My hay fever has been really bad this year. Blocked nose, none stop sneezing, itchy swollen eyes/throat.

Eurgh I hate it.

I like it when its warm with a nice breeze in the air.

LostLion · 08/07/2013 03:16

I totally get you OP. Ive always felt that hot weather is a waste if your not at the beach and since I don't live near the ocean....YANBU

sashh · 08/07/2013 04:52

I do like being able to take a coffee and my kindle into the garden at 6am, but I am inside most of the day because I'm not good with and I'm terrible with sun.

Then when it was cooling down out in the garden again, in the shade, twas nice.

luxemburgerli · 08/07/2013 06:47

I feel your pain OP. I feel like I spend the majority of my work life at the moment explaining why I don't want to eat lunch outside with everyone else. There is no shade, it's 30'C here, shudder.

And it's not like most things, where people just accept "I don't like/want to". They go on and on about it until I have Sun Rage.

raisah · 08/07/2013 07:11

I don't like being out in the direct sunshine either and I have got asian skin. I avoid going out between noon & about 4pm, unfortunately my garden is south facing and it gets too hot to sit out until about 6pm on days like this. I can feel my skin burn and I wear factor 50 despite people going on about my skin colour.
