AIBU?

to think not everyone loves the sun?

especially as I am not a huge fan of it.

I bowed to peer pressure earlier and went for a walk then sat in a field to read my Kindle. I rarely sweat but it was dripping off my forehead onto the Kindle - it was that hot. I was sticky, itchy from the grass, and uncomfortable. So I went home and sat INSIDE with the fan on.

And all I've heard is people bleating about "wasting" a sunny day.

I realise if you like the heat, great (dad is a great sun-worshipper) but AIBU to think not everyone likes glaring sunshine, flies buzzing round you, sticky, sweaty weather? And can't those who DO like it enjoy it in their own way and let me enjoy it in mine?

YANBU, my body just does not like the heat, my head hurts, my vision goes funny and my muscles go into spasm but there are still people who tell me I ought to be enjoying the sun.

I loathe this weather, I'm so full of hayfever and I burn really easily. I'm so sticky all the time from factor 50, bag is twice as heavy with potions for hayfever, spare tissues, suncream and face suncream, extra water...... I hate the sun, hate it!

22C is optimum for me too, I spent almost the entire weekend indoors (at planned activities, not at home) with time in the garden morning and evening and was quite happy about that. Hoping it is not as hot today.

I used to hate the sun up until about 3 years ago when I became depressed by the constant cold and gloomy weather. I didn't feel happy anymore. The house was a tip because I had no energy. Now I soak up as much sun as I can, and love the summers. I still prefer the shade but am more happy about getting out in the sun. I love being able to wear light clothes and not be bogged down with about 10 layers of clothing.

There's a Facebook page for hot weather haters, I had even joined that when I hated summer.

Love the sun when its a sensible temperature and April / May or Sept / Oct . 20 - 22'C perfect temperature . Add being fair skinned and will burn in 30 mins without F30 , and another hayfever sufferer means summer sun really not much fun.
I shut all the curtains otherwise flat becomes an oven , but open the windows
Seen loads of really badly burned people this weekeend , do people really value a tan over skin cancer and the cancer treatments that follow?
Bet there are loads ofpeople pulling a sick day today as they got so burnt they cant face work , or want another day in the sun.
So no OP YANBUnseasonable

Some people love the sun, some hate it. I reserve all comment for my sun worshipping mother and SIL who stayed inside to watch tennis and grumbled about it.

Why they couldn't to what DH does with motor sports when I want to go out (records it then avoids TV/Internet/radio until he's watched it) is beyond me. But they go all reverential and say 'but you don't understand.'

None of my lot like the heat, including me. Yesterday we went to a McDonalds with an indoor, air-conditioned soft play and pretty much had it to ourselves. Nice and cool, some coffee, free wi-fi and not having to worry about the baby being burnt or over-heating, lovely Smile

I dont like being out in the direct heat either. Spent most of a bbq yesterday sat in the shade of the fence. Thankfully dd still naps for a couple of hours after lunch so I have an excuse to sit in.

Sun is evil.

That's a bit extreme! We wouldn't be alive without the sun. We'd have no food. There would be no cocoa trees to make chocolate. The sun is lovely. Grin

I shall be staying home today packing for my holidays. To California where it's meant to be 25 - 30 the whole time I'm there.

I don't cope well in the sun, hate being sweaty, burn in an instant and have hideous hay fever. Add a pale, ginger, heat hating baby and I'm pretty much house bound for the next week.

I love the sun on holiday where you have the pool to jump in when it gets a bit much, everywhere has air-con and you can stop and have a nice cold gin drink whenever you feel like it. But in this country with none of those comforts it's just too much for me. I stayed in in the cool nearly all day yesterday and don't feel in the least bit guilty for 'wasting the day'.

25-30° will be the actual temperature. It'll probably feel hotter. Much hotter Wink. Have a lovely time!

Report
squeakytoy · 08/07/2013 10:08

Tee.. it will feel much much hotter than that. But on the plus side, everywhere you go will have good air con too.

When I was in Cali a couple of years ago, it was supposed to be that temperature, but in reality it was too hot to even step outside the apartment..

I am jealous though, as I love it there, so have a great time! :)

Nope, very little air con in San Francisco as it rarely gets this hot.

I used to live there.

YANBU. I like it (but not if I have to go to work, or, in fact, do anything at all other than lying down.) I like the celebratory holiday feeling it inspires, and depending on my mood, I may sunbathe for an hour max, but mostly I only enjoy it if I can lurk in the shade. I tan really easily and am also allergic to nearly all sunscreen so enforced periods in the sun involve much advance planning and swathing of self in shirts and hats. Summer to me normally means months of embarassing strap marks / panda eyes from one unexpectedly sunny walk in April.

Hate it when friends want to sit outside for meals for hours on end in the glaring sun. 20 mins - nice. 4 hours? Torment. I just get squinty and headachy (even with polarised grade 3 tinted shades), hot, sweathy, stupidly tan-lined and cross. As soon as the sun comes out I start scanning for trees and sunshades wherever I go.

Plus I hate how everywhere gets really crowded in nice wheather. If I didn't have my garden, and had to go to a park or beach, I'd hate it.

It's not just the sun. I'm not too keen on outdoors.

If I have to go out, I wear my shades even on dull days.

Horribly pale maybe, but no squinty wrinkles round here.

I'm not very god in the sun either, currently sat inside but even the house is boiling. I have the back door open so every midge in the neighbourhood is now in the house.DS is grumpy and sweaty and keeps wanting to sit on my knee and we are sticking together. The dog is sunbathing and then starts panting OH will take him out tonight because everyone has a dog on a nice day. I do not have the energy to get the hoover out.I could go on and on but I have got loads of washing dry.

I hated the sun already, but the addition of DS to the mix has made me loathe it even more.
The heat makes him tired and grumpy, which causes him to misbehave terribly, and I can't deal with it because I'm tired and grumpy so just end up winding each other up.

Could do without it, really. But the temperature isn't supposed to go back below 20 degrees this week at all SadAngry
