What time is it unreasonable to clearly hear the music from a do?

I'm working tomorrow. 13 hour shift. I have to get up at 6.

There is a venue quite a way off playing a live band for a do of some sort.

It is warm.

I have my bedroom window open.

I can hear every word loudly.

Is it unreasonable to phone them?

Angry

If it helps, which it probably doesn't, the general curfew at live gigs seems to be 22:30, 23:00 at the latest.

AtYourCervix · 06/07/2013 22:07

Fuckers just hung up.

What do I do next.

I wonder if u live near me having same prob but it is v close to me and v loud but has just stopped

Torrorosso · 06/07/2013 22:09

Put earplugs in and shut your window?

AtYourCervix · 06/07/2013 22:10

Have phoned again.

Marginal improvement.

If it is still hoing at 11 I'm going over there in my pyjamas with an axe.

Too early to ring and complain to Enviromental Health. Unreasonable if it goes on beyond 11.30 - Midnight.

Cravey · 06/07/2013 22:11

If its a licensed venue it can be as late as 12 maybe call them Monday and ask the terms of license x

LaurieFairyCake · 06/07/2013 22:12

I think 11 is fine. Earplugs and shut your window.

I'm also getting up at 6 tomorrow.

AtYourCervix · 06/07/2013 22:12

It's hot. I shouldn't have to shut my window.

Background distance noise is acceptable. That was louder than I'd have a radio on.

My local council has an anti-social hotline & you can email a complaint.. But mobile noise complaint dept finish at 10pm!!!!! Shock So any complaint is dealt with next office hours!!! Bit pointless really but nothing can be done at the time you just want volume down!! Our police won't deal Hmm

AtYourCervix · 06/07/2013 22:13

Couldn't wear earplugs. What if the smoke alarm went off?

AtYourCervix · 06/07/2013 22:13

I am excessively pissed off with having to work tomorrow which is adding to my ire.

I just checked my own live music / dj license and realised it runs till 1 am. Maybe not what you want to hear sorry. Give them a call tomorrow or Monday and ask them re timings.

WorraLiberty · 06/07/2013 22:14

I think 11 or 11.30pm is reasonable on a Saturday night.

If it's likely to happen again, perhaps buy a fan?

morethanpotatoprints · 06/07/2013 22:14

12 midnight, unless they have applied for an extra license which I'm sure wouldn't be granted near houses.
We have one near us and in summer is free music for our bbqs Grin
I know its no fun if you have to work.
Ear plugs is the only solution, unless you complain to non emergency Police and they will have noise levels checked. We complained several times about the noise when people were leaving, its not close to us but they end up down our street.

Cravey · 06/07/2013 22:15

Ours is in the middle of houses and runs till 1 am.

GiveItYourBestShot · 06/07/2013 22:16

Is it an outdoor do? If not they've probably got windows and doors open to cool off. Sometimes the licence can require that windows are kept shut. Speak to the Counciil on Monday & check? I have to go and rant at people who hire our village hall sometimes, unfortunately the council are the ones that rent it out. If I can hear New York New York in my bedroom it's too damn loud....

PseudoBadger · 06/07/2013 22:16

Cravey just because its a licenced venue (if this one is) - it doesn't mean they can merrily cause nuisance until their licenced hours finish.

Cervix, technically a nuisance can occur at any time of the day and night. YANBU

AtYourCervix · 06/07/2013 22:17

I feel a strongly worded letter to the local paper may be neccessary.....

Offensive.

Intrudive

And we thwarted your offensive and intrusive floodlights now shut the fuck up you bastards or else.

OP posts:
BMW6 · 06/07/2013 22:18

OP - if it truly is that loud then ring Council re decibel levels.

As for shutting your windows - yes, it;s hot but if it sorts out the noise of course you should shut them!

You have to be reasonable yourself ......

morethanpotatoprints · 06/07/2013 22:18

Sorry.

I meant entertainment license which the venue has to have. They can apply for an extended license, but not always granted. I had the plug literally pulled from my equipment once, don't know if I could have sued if it had damaged anything.

AtYourCervix · 06/07/2013 22:19

They've turned it down a bit. Badtards. Off to sleep now.

OP posts:
CruCru · 06/07/2013 22:20

My council has a night time noise hotline and they send someone out.

PseudoBadger · 06/07/2013 22:22

There is a lot of misunderstanding on this thread (and some of it from people who clearly are licencees).

Whether the venue has a premises licence or a TEN, or is running a private party, or is a private house, they cannot just cause either statutory nuisance (Environmental Protection Act 1990) or public nuisance (Licensing Act 2003).

Please do complain to the council Cervix.

Cravey · 06/07/2013 22:23

I do realise they shouldn't be causing a nuisance. However if they have the given license it can be pretty hard to overturn it. Not impossible but a long job. Call local council ask terms of license. If not what you eppected ask t speak to license officers and tell them your concerns.
