I'm not particularly bothered, I tend to say days but my kids use both day and sleeps so have gotten used to it. I find it odd when other adults or websites have it though.

Earlier this year when I logged into a holiday company websites to get all the numbers and such for our week in the North, had "X sleeps until your holiday". It was quite odd, MrSporks - agreeing with the OP - found it quite annoying and silly.

Otherworld · 06/07/2013 18:14

Don't be mean.

TroublesomeEx · 06/07/2013 18:15

I've used it.

My stbxh and I started using it because of the "after all there's only one more sleep till Christmas" song from the Muppets Christmas Carol.

I'd not heard it as an expression before that and as the muppets can do no wrong in my eyes, I'll still be using it!

TroublesomeEx · 06/07/2013 18:16

A person said 'holibobs' IRL a couple of weeks ago. Before that, I'd only heard in on MN!

Pinkflipflop · 06/07/2013 18:17

The things some people get their knickers in a twist over! Shock

Does this really bother you OP? Seriously?

Tee2072 · 06/07/2013 18:18

My son learned it at preschool, BTW.

So I blame the teachers. And I think it's cute. Grin

cherhorowitz · 06/07/2013 18:20

I've said it a few times. It doesn't sound right to me at all.

Fakebook · 06/07/2013 18:26

YABU. My dd only understands the concept of days by using "sleeps". One sleep means day 1 is over. 2 sleeps is 2 days over.

There are more important things to worry yourself about in the world.

EliotNess · 06/07/2013 18:31

Hollibobs. Christ yes.
Probably wear pigtails and are crazy about shoes and cupcakes

Any other stereotypes I can kill for you?

EliotNess · 06/07/2013 18:33

Holibobs makes me internally angry.

EliotNess · 06/07/2013 18:33

Tee. Did you have nits? bright face

OP posts:
MummyMastodon · 06/07/2013 18:34

But it's helpful, no? if you say 6 days until x... is that counting today? Is it counting the day of X, or not? Counting the sleeps is easy, and no confusion.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 06/07/2013 18:35

Guffaw at dead to me.

EliotNess · 06/07/2013 18:35

It's infantile

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 06/07/2013 18:37

Yes, having nits is the only reason to have short hair. Hmm

apostropheuse · 06/07/2013 18:38

YABU. It's an easy way to teach young children how long until something special is going to happen when they don't understand what days mean. It just slips into adult language and is harmless fun.

You sound rather Victor Meldrewish. Perhaps you need some more sleeps.

Wuxiapian · 06/07/2013 18:40

YABU. And miserable.

LondonNinja · 06/07/2013 18:43

YANBU. Find it cringeworthy from adults.

EliotNess · 06/07/2013 18:47

I'm kidding tee. Don't be cross
