To be worried about rash on DS leg?

catgirl1976 · 03/07/2013 19:13

DS is 19 months

He has a funny little rash on his thigh

It is slightly raised and does not look like a bite, burn or graze. There is no head to it. I have put a pic on my profile

If run my finger over it it goes white / skin coloured and disappears IYSWIM

It is a bit bigger then a 5p, with a secondary "spot" next to the main one

There's nothing else anywhere on him, it doesn't seem to be itching or bothering him and he is fine in himself with no temp and eating his food

I know I am being very PFB and I will take him to GP tomorrow to get it checked, but does anyone have any ideas what it might be?

Looks like a bite.

OwlinaTree · 03/07/2013 19:16

But i'm no doctor Grin

kelda · 03/07/2013 19:17

Looks like a bite, maybe mosquito.

catgirl1976 · 03/07/2013 19:17

Thanks Owlina :)

I don't think it's a bite, but it could be I guess

Or maybe nettles or something?

Fungal infection?

Does it have "satellite lesions" ?

GreenShadow · 03/07/2013 19:19

Would also agree with those saying it looks like an insect bite.

catgirl1976 · 03/07/2013 19:20

YY - there is 1 "satellite lesion"

Looking online I think it might be ringworm Confused Blush

My dd had something similar. Cleared up nicely with some daktocort (sp?) that is an anti fungal cream with a hydro cortisone. It did however spread to her head so required a special shampoo (it was pink) dr should happily prescribe that for you and should clear up quickly enough.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 03/07/2013 19:27

And don't be Blush I was told its very common it can be picked up from other kids or even from things like wooden benches and window sills. It's no indication of being dirty. If you have pets however check them as ringworm can be transmitted from or too animals.

catgirl1976 · 03/07/2013 19:29

Hmm - it's not scaly so not ringworm I don't think

Fungal infection sounds likely - thanks caffeine - might take him to the chemist tomorrow rather than bother the GP, unless the pharmacist thinks it needs it / can't give him something suitable with out a prescription

Thanks for the advice

Hmm - we do have cats

Maybe a trip to the vet tomorrow as well as the chemist!

It's an expensive problem :o luckily our pets turned out to be woods lamp negative. Definitely go to gp as he may be able to tell you if you need to get cat checked or not. Will save you some money then :)

frogspoon · 03/07/2013 19:44

Could be an allergy, eczema or a fungal infection. If the rash has a clear patch in the middle (like a ring) its probably ringworm. Ringworm and discoid eczema look very similar, so best to check with a professional.

catgirl1976 · 03/07/2013 19:55

I will go to the GP in that case

We have 3 cats so it could end up costing me a fortune :( Little pests :(

OP posts:
Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 03/07/2013 20:04

Don't panic about cost yet. I have two rabbits none showed signs (no bald patches or flaky skin) they literally just spent a few seconds looking at them under the lamp and charged me no more than a consult fee. If yours are negative then they may well do the same in which case it won't be so bad.

catgirl1976 · 03/07/2013 20:06

Phew :) I was worrying a bit. Every time I go to the vets I feel slightly nearer total financial ruin :) Why I had to get three is beyond me. Good job they are cute.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 03/07/2013 20:11

It doesn't look like ringworm to me. A bite maybe?

BCBG · 03/07/2013 20:11

Looking at the pic I would say a) not serious, b) not ringworm or discoid excema. It looks rather like urticaria/hives - caused by contact sensitivity, heat or in my dd's case by ibuprofen at the same age.

catgirl1976 · 03/07/2013 20:14

Possibly a bite but doesn't seem to have a head or centre pobble

It does look like hives pictures on the internet BCBG

You can give them a once over yourself. Look for any similar lesions. If there aren't any that's a good sign. Doesn't rule it out though obviously. See what the gp says first, you may well be worrying about nothing. And if there's no signs on the cats then perhaps you can just ring and see what they say about getting them checked. (You can get an idea of what they plan to do and cost then) there may well even be something you can treat them with at home. Mind
told me that if it was the weekend , rather than pay for call out charge I can just use a OTC cream to treat until an appointment is available. In other words they might even tell you over phone that there's a cream u can buy that you can treat with and appointment isn't needed just yet.

As an aside Envy @ three cats!!!!

HandMini · 03/07/2013 20:21

I think it sounds fungal. Worth going to GP as will clear up quickly with mess.

catgirl1976 · 03/07/2013 20:21

Thanks caffeine :)

They are my lovely boys

2 are brothers and were intentional, No. 3 was found as a v small kitten wandering in a really rough area, eating out of bins. His tail had been snapped - vet thought deliberately :(

I couldn't really say no to him!

OP posts:
HandMini · 03/07/2013 20:21

Sorry, mess should read meds.

Twattybollocks · 03/07/2013 20:26

Looks like ringworm to me.

landofsoapandglory · 03/07/2013 20:26

I would take him to the pharmacist in the first instance, they are usually really very good. I took DS2 with a similar thing when he was little, it turned out to be a bite, they gave me some cream which sorted it out really quickly.
