To hate it when people shorten the names of food?

Strawbs is the worst one I've heard recently. Veg, spag bol and pots also set my teeth on edge. I don't mind so much when they are written down, it's when they're said out loud that I find it fills me with rage irritating. None of these are particularly difficult words to say so why? Why do it? Anyone else feel my pain, or am I just weird?

(In case anyone asks, I know it isn't the biggest problem in the world, and yes I do have better things to worry about Wink.)

Heartbrokenmum73 · 30/06/2013 22:22

HamWIDGE, Pelvic. Honestly...

HooverFairy · 30/06/2013 22:23

YANBU, I unreasonably get irritated by this too. The other extreme version of this I especially hate is when adults refer to food as some ridiculous derivative of its proper name when speaking to children, like moo- moo for milk and nahna for banana.

Yeah I have better things to worry about too, but who can resist a good moan?

OwlinaTree · 30/06/2013 22:23

Is pom bear short for potato and maize bear shaped snack product? Bear

Marrow · 30/06/2013 22:23

Oh dear. Don't think you'd like to visit us then! Tonight, amongst other things, we've had pot salad, cuke and toms, and yog, strawbs and bloobs(blueberries) for pudding!

OHforDUCKScake · 30/06/2013 22:25

I call parsnips, 'snips'.

Do I get a prize? Grin

HooverFairy · 30/06/2013 22:25

Pipkin, exactly my point.

OwlinaTree · 30/06/2013 22:26

Sorry that should be potato and modified starch bear shaped snack product.

BrianTheMole · 30/06/2013 22:26

OJ. Does that count? I like OJ.

WhiteShakette · 30/06/2013 22:27

I hate 'sarnies' and 'choccy', and 'biccies' makes me want to throw things.

UnrequitedSkink · 30/06/2013 22:28

Slightly unrelated but I want to strangle mildly berate my friend when she tells me (several times now) that she and her DH and 2 DSs call Parmesan 'smelly sock cheese'. Angry

bootsycollins · 30/06/2013 22:28

Simpson?

UnrequitedSkink · 30/06/2013 22:29

It's the hilarity she seems to think this merits I think...

VixZenFenchell · 30/06/2013 22:30

Spag bol is better than spag bog! Hate it (the name not the meal).

Not so bothered by pots, though I'd think someone was referring to dirty dishes as opposed to potatoes.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 30/06/2013 22:30

Oops, yes, I did indeed wich the widge Blush

oh Tennis Tennis Tennis Tennis

Sokmonsta · 30/06/2013 22:30

Mac n cheese, or mac cheese.

How about spud? It's like a nickname for a potato.

WhereDoAllTheCalculatorsGo · 30/06/2013 22:30
