Every thursday i take the DC swimming ( ds has a lesson so I go in with DD)

Its been fine up to now, but i am at the end of my period. Would it be disguesting if i was to wear my mooncup and continue to take them today.

the alternitive is DD not going today.

It's safe to assume that 1/4 of all the women of child bearing age have their period at any given time. It's normal. Why on earth would you not go swimming?

fatlazymummy · 27/06/2013 15:47

Yes, I have done so many times. I use(d) a lil-let with no problems, but I guess a moon cup would work just as well.

McNewPants2013 · 27/06/2013 15:47

ive just alway thought it's something you cant do.

I would only avoid swimming on my heaviest days. Just in case.

On lighter days, when i knew a tampon would cope, i'd be fine with it.

DoodleAlley · 27/06/2013 15:47

Don't use a mooncup so can't comment on that part but if it would leak in someway then no I'd either not go or use a tampon.

Others more knowledgeable will be along shortly to advise on mooncup I'm sure.

annoyednow · 27/06/2013 15:48

Don't know anything about mooncups, but if you use them in the same way as tampons, they must be fairly secure. I use tampons while swimming.

TheCatIsUpTheDuff · 27/06/2013 15:48

I would, with a tampon. I'd guess a mooncup would do equally as well.

lurcherlover · 27/06/2013 15:48

Yes. I used to swim competitively so had no choice really (until I started taking the pill). Tampon or mooncup and there's no issue just make sure the tampon string isn't hanging out of your swimsuit

fluffyraggies · 27/06/2013 15:48

Strictly speaking a moon-cup is better, really. As it is a complete barrier IYSWIM. A tampon not so much ...

scaevola · 27/06/2013 15:49

With internal protection it's fine.

I never gave it a second thought until the hell of perimenopausal gushing turned up.

McNewPants2013 · 27/06/2013 15:50

a mooncup collects, while a tampon absorbs.

I never have any issues with leaks, but never been swimming with it.

Watch out for sharks obviously Grin

redrubyshoes · 27/06/2013 15:54

I swim up to 8km a week but my god not during my period. It is sooo bloody heavy that if I went swimming in the sea sharks would detect me from a thousand bloody miles away!

ChippingInWiredOnCoffee · 27/06/2013 15:58

No, of course it's not disgusting. You have a rubber object inside you which is acting as a barrier - which when you think about it, is actually more hygenic than when you don't :)

valiumredhead · 27/06/2013 15:59

Of course it's fine.

QueenStromba · 27/06/2013 16:02

Do you think one in four female swimmers pull out each competition due to having their periods?

McNewPants2013 · 27/06/2013 16:03

I never thought of it that way QueenStromba

Hmm

I swim every day but I wouldn't go swimming during my period.

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 27/06/2013 16:11

Do people really not go swimming during their period? I use tampons and it never occurred to me that I shouldn't go swimming.

Startail · 27/06/2013 16:12

Always have, DD1 does. Can't book holidays to be certain of missing your period.

Guess it's a problem if you have very heavy periods, but not otherwise.

pinkballetflats · 27/06/2013 16:13

When you consider all the people (and kids) who don't wipe their arses properly...

At least period blood us sterile!

It never stopped me, though now Id probably avoid the first day because of the joys of getting older flow.

nemno · 27/06/2013 16:16

Do tampons not absorb water from the pool and thus not in fact prevent the blood entering the pool? A Mooncup is a barrier, so fine I think.

NandH · 27/06/2013 16:16

I personally wouldn't, but I don't like/use public swimming pools so wouldn't know what the etiquette is.

NickyNackyNooNoo · 27/06/2013 16:17

I've been swimming today & I'm on my period Grin Mine are now really light but even when they were heavy I used to go, never in shark infested water though Wink

I get quite ragey (sp?) when periods get in the way of life, pah men don't know they're born Angry Wink
