Parent helper on nursery trip.

On bus. 20 3+4 year olds plus a load of teachers and parent helpers.

Teacher and parent near me are not wearing seatbelts. Kids are asking them to belt up and they are winking at each othervsaying 'oh ours are broken, what a pity'.

They aren't obviously.

AIBU. I think it is irresponsible not to wear one. Bad example and in the event of a crash they will be propelled forward into anyone in front and will be little use to the children.

Feeling easily annoyed today but I just think it is not on at all.

YANBU. How bizarre that they wouldn't wear them. If god forbid there was a crash those two wouldn't be any position to be helping the children would they? Angry

sameoldIggi · 27/06/2013 10:44

Their funeral.
And yes, a very bad example.

Sparklingbrook · 27/06/2013 10:45

And the funeral of any person the may land on. Sad

nameofanother · 27/06/2013 10:48

Glad it is not just me. Not sure what the problem is with wearing one. Hardly a big issue.

Doesn't exactly fill me with confidence in the teachers ability to make the tight decisions for the children in her care. Hmm

It's also illegal and as someone whose dd was very badly injured on a school trip, she was wearing her belt but it broke, others children and teachers who weren't were killed and very very severley injured.

I am a TA and in a recent school trip, which was very hard for me, I went to each and every child and parent helper and belted then up myself.

The coach driver should not have driven off until the leader of the trip ensured everyone was belted up.

Those fucking stupid adults in a crash situation would have been catapulted through the coach hitting and killing children.

I would have had great difficulty in keeping my hands if twats who ' winked' about Brits not working and you should have reported this to the head of the trip.

Fucking disgusting and I hope you report this to the principsl today.

However if they are this cavalier about safety at your nursery I would remove your child to he honest.

SugarSpunSisters · 27/06/2013 10:51

I think that's really bad, imagine if the bus crashes and they die - all the kids will remember is that they told them to put their seatbelts on Sad

It's disrespectful to the kids too.

I'd be fuming - can they be reported to Head?

nameofanother · 27/06/2013 10:54

The person who checked every childs belt and told the driver good to go is the one not wearing their belt.

Ridiculous.

Good point Sparkling.
Sometimes staff do end up moving up and down the bus if there's a problem (eg someone being sick or mooning out the window) so belts might go on and off, but they should go back on!

Sparklingbrook · 27/06/2013 10:55

You were the first person I though of thebody. Unbelievable. Sad

You are right they should be reported.

Hamwidgeandcheps · 27/06/2013 10:55

I don't think that's being judgey. Please report this to whoever is in charge. And maybe ofsted Hmm

name Shock that is even worse. Angry

thebody · 27/06/2013 11:05

I know sparkling, makes me so bloody angry!!

These are other people's precious children in the hands of this twat.

Report it please op to Ofsted. It's a serious issue.

thebody · 27/06/2013 11:07

Op go ask her what happens when a fully grown adult is capitulated into a child at 60 miles an hour?

I could show her pictures! Stupid bitch.

PeterParkerSays · 27/06/2013 11:25

so the children are strapped in and therefore unable to get out of the way when these idiots hurtle towards them if the bus rolls over?

Cracking idea Confused

At least you were there as a helper and can raise it as an issue.

ChippingInWiredOnCoffee · 27/06/2013 11:28

Thebody

I'm surprised none of the other adults offered to 'mend' the 'broken' seatbelts.

thebody · 27/06/2013 11:41

Thanks chip, feeling the hug.

nameofanother · 27/06/2013 14:35

thebody sorry to hear this is something you have personal experience of. I think you are very brave to be able to go on trips following something so devastating.

I don't feel able to directly challenge this person. I wish I could. I did just sayb'you haven't got your seatbelt on'. To which she said it is broken. It is not and there are free seats.

I actually feel physically sick and tight chested. Think I have issues with this kind of thing more than normal. Not sure but think it could be linked to previous trauma. Actually feel like I could cry.

Sparklingbrook · 27/06/2013 14:38

Could you speak to the Head name.

Hope you are okay thebody. Upsetting for you to hear teachers are putting themselves and children in danger like this.

Gruntfuttock · 27/06/2013 14:40

nameofanother, I just wanted to urge you to do what thebody* said:-

"Report it please op to Ofsted. It's a serious issue."

It is very serious indeed.

MaxPepsi · 27/06/2013 14:40

I'd be requesting very loudly that the driver stops so that those with 'broken' belts can move seats to the spare ones where they aren't broken.

Knobheads!

imnotmymum · 27/06/2013 14:41

Cannot believe they would not just put on their seatbelts that si so irresposible and frankly why are they in education? Especially as the little kids noticed and asked them. GGRRR!!

thebody · 27/06/2013 15:18

It's just disgraceful and such a bad example to the children.

Understand op that you might feel its difficult, could you tip off Ofsted anonymously?

See this isn't a personality difference or you nit picking this is the law and a bloody serious safe guarding issue.

It's not an option for her not to wear one.

The coach company, the driver, your nursery and her personally could be potentially sued in an accident.

She needs to be told her responsibilities here.

Saidar · 27/06/2013 16:45

YANBU or judgey. What kind of pillock doesn't wear a seat belt. Angry

MurderOfGoths · 27/06/2013 17:22

Wow, that's ridiculous, judgey pants are more than relevant here!
