Everytime someone compliments something I have (this is rare) like clothes or shoes etc I can't just say thank you

I'm all '£3.50 primani special'

Or '9.50 in the market'

Why?! They dobt need to know! I just can't stop myself. Is it a British thing? Does anyone else do this?

I do it too! Or say 'Its all the rain' if I look tanned, or 'They get it from their dad' if someone compliments the DC. But I know I do it, and so try to stop my DDs doing it by accepting the compliment. Just easier said than done!

It's even worse when you say "oh thanks it's Burberry" as I recently did about my one and only designer bag Blush. They must have thought I was a complete twat.

vintagecakeisstillnice · 24/06/2013 20:31

Just say thanks/ thank you.

There was an entry on an Irish blog a wee while back where a Polish woman thought for ages that Primark was Irish for thanks, because 90% of the time she complimented anyone on their clothes they said 'oh Primark'

Of course this may be bullshit. . . Grin

But seriously take the compliment. .

ha Primark is Pennys over in Ireland

LadyRabbit · 24/06/2013 22:10

Me too! I always feel the need to stress it was a bargain so that a) I don't feel guilty (?!) and b) the other person doesn't feel it's all fancy schmancy.

Sparrowlegs248 · 24/06/2013 23:06

Yup me too....'lovely dress' .....'thanks, got it from Monsoon....NOT full price! No 15 quid in the sale....'

armani · 24/06/2013 23:31

I do this a lot too. The other day I wore my brand new designer sandals for the first time. Friend took one look and said 'love you'r new sandals, are they from primark?'
Cringe Blush
I just smiled and nodded, was too embarrassed to admit they were in fact from house of Fraser Blush
