Ever wonder or notice the kids have disappeared when the magic key begins to glow?

yes I know you probably don't give a shit but I'm putting off doing the cleaning.

My DS loves those books. I hate it (see username). I hated the one where they went into the jungle etc; after buying their mum plants. All DS has asked to buy for presents have been plants ever since because he wants to go to Hmm

TheMagicKeyCanFuckOff · 25/06/2013 18:36

I can't remember exactly, but I loved the story when they lost the key (well, Kipper, I think, did?) And it ended up in a key shop. I thought it was the end, at last, of the series. But he got it back...

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 25/06/2013 18:37

magic I love your name!! :o

No I don't think they do notice op. Even dd was amazed at the stupidity of "dad" he couldn't find his arse with both hands let alone notice if the kids go missing.

Thank god we r done with them now. Hours of our lives we won't ever get back

YouTheCat · 25/06/2013 18:42

The Lost Key: Gets found in a junk shop by an artist and then used in a painting that they end up having to buy.

I always wondered why would mum not question why they are so attached to an old key?

dreamygirl · 28/06/2013 11:40

Storynanny we bought Time Chronicles as a set from Book People a few years back, they don't have them at our school. I quite like the ORT stories but especially Time Chronicles, just read them all to DD2 for bedtime.

Whenever there's anything on the radio about the Home Secretary and they say "Mrs May" I always picture Biff and Chip's teacher.

Elquota · 28/06/2013 11:52

Kipper = Christopher
Biff = Barbara
Chip = David

I'm going to suggest those on "Baby Names", as alternatives to Kit, Barb and Dave Grin

GreenShadow · 28/06/2013 13:07

I know someone who is actually called Biff (male) - ie not a nickname.

littleomar · 28/06/2013 13:13

I thought Biff must be Elizabeth. Do we know it's Barbara?

We are beyond that stage now but I quite liked them. The weirdest one was the water butt, when they set it all up then filled it from the tap. Eh?

whippetwoman · 28/06/2013 13:21

My son would cut to the chase and called all the children a generic Chipper when he read the books. Saved time. I still think of them as 'the chipper books'.

LittleMissGerardButlerfan · 28/06/2013 13:24

I've heard biff is Barbara but can't remember where I heard that or if I made it up :o

whippet that's a good idea! Chipper :o

ahhh the caretaker is not just a caretaker you know.

tumbletumble · 28/06/2013 13:28

My DD brought home 'It's not fair' the other day. Starts off with Biff saying 'why can't girls be knights?', so I was sure it would end up saying of course girls can be knights. But no! It ends saying girls can't be knights! Feminist hackles rising.... I hear you though innacorner that Peter and Jane is far worse for this. I guess at least Biff is normally treated fairly compared to the boys.

storynanny · 28/06/2013 14:53

I quite like Mrs.May, she stays relatively calm. Bet she doesnt have to have a detailed plan with differentiated targets on and scary observations. I also smile when I hear anyone being called Mrs.May.
I'm on supply in a primary school next week so am going to sneak a look for the time chronicles. I know how to live. I'll be in year R so looking forward to It's not fair, It's the weather, At the beach etc.

gymboywalton · 28/06/2013 15:05

"My daughter is in year one and they have a reading book called 'Mums diet' the family are all banned from cake and have to eat salad but in the end they decide to eat the cake and they love her cuddly. "

oh god-i HATE that book!! the kids go on how about how dull salad is and at the end end they all eat doughnuts!

i actually complained to the school, said it didn't fit in with their healthy eating policy and asked for it tobe removed! and it was!!! Blush

gymboywalton · 28/06/2013 15:07

i like the on where the house gets broken at school and the magic key takes them back to victorian times where the house is a real house with a broken roof

Britchic · 28/06/2013 15:08

tumbletumble... yep we had 'It's not fair' last week, and I had the same thought process as you. Unfortunately DS didn't... he completely missed the point, and said laughingly at the end "of course Biff can't be a knight, she's a girl" Grrrrr!!!

UptoapointLordCopper · 28/06/2013 16:22

Well done gymboy! Grin

gymboywalton · 28/06/2013 16:33
Grin

i work in primary and trust me, the biff and chip books are a lot better than some of the other crap they read

Motivation to hothouse DC for reading so they can get to exciting books! But beware Stage 16 stuff. They are lethal. (Older DC, not reception child genius.)

PistachioTruffle · 28/06/2013 19:38

I remember reading these from reception onwards, I'm 25. I remember reading the one with the secret room, but not any magic key ones

80Furr · 30/06/2013 22:49

I was also angered by the Knight one! I found the one with the camera on the beach weird too, when Biff was celebrated for turning down the reward money. I thought it was a bit rude to refuse it really and I would have grabbed it and run

IThinkOfHappyWhenIThinkOfYou · 30/06/2013 22:58

I long for the days of magic key. We have X-bot bollocks now, they are shit.

Doodledumdums · 30/06/2013 22:58

No no no, of course they don't wonder where the kids have gone, they trust Floppy to look after them implicitly!

GW297 · 30/06/2013 23:01

I thought Biff was Elizabeth too.
