To think eyelashes on cars are just creepy?

Why do people do this? It just looks peculiar and freaks me our a bit. Someone near us has actually scratched them into the paintwork around the headlights - they are already rusting.

No, people - stop it!

I saw eyelashes on a car yesterday and had exactly the same thought. It IS creepy. I can't work out the appeal of them at all.

ParadiseChick · 22/06/2013 12:11

Oh how cute!

Was it a fiat 500?

BasilBabyEater · 22/06/2013 12:11

Not sure about creepy.

Disconcerting, certainly.

Why would anyone bother?

anonpost · 22/06/2013 12:13

Makes me cringe.

cocolepew · 22/06/2013 12:19

I hate them, I couldn't care what anyone puts on their car but these give me the creeps. Gives me the same feeling as barnacles on a whale

NettoSuperstar · 22/06/2013 12:20

I love them, but they don't look right on my car because of the shape of the lights.
I have it stuffed full of pink things, including a furry steering wheel cover, and at Christmas I put reindeer antlers on it.
I also have a pink sign which says, 'Mrs Kimi Raikkonen on board'
I love my car, and in fact will choose my next one based on whether it comes in pink.
Oh, and I'm 35 and today will be wearing a sequinned muppets t-shirt purchased from Asda kid's department, so I will be dressing like a child.

SoupDragon · 22/06/2013 12:20

ParadiseChick if you are talking to me, no it wasn't cute. It looked like an over sized Fisher Price toy. Lo

DialsMavis · 22/06/2013 12:24

I hate every car embellishment mentioned above, except eyelashes. I know they are naffola but they make me smile. I don't have them though... I don't own a car.Smile

Lovecat · 22/06/2013 12:34

I love them because they make DD inordinately happy whenever she sees them.

Wouldn't have them on my current car because it's a dull exec mobile that wouldn't suit them, but if I had a frivolous car then, like Birdsgottafly , I would go the whole nine yards with flowers and fairies and eyelashes. And I would drive around with a big smile on my face all day.

Quote, you find eyelashes, flags & red noses in your local hedgerows EVERY DAY? Really? Given that they don't come cheap I'm really surprised you find them on a daily basis... I agree with you about rubbish though, nothing makes me crosser than to see some tosspot throwing stuff out their car window as they drive along.

And THIS is the ultimate bad driver badge. Every near miss, collision and dodgy parking incident I've ever witnessed has involved one of these in some form or other. Perhaps they think a higher power will look after them so they don't have to worry about the Highway Code, or watching the road or indeed knowing how their car works...

chocoluvva · 22/06/2013 13:37

Sorry - but I quite like them. I think they're fun.

Startail · 22/06/2013 14:59

I'm 45, I have a very dull practical estate car.

When the DDs leave home, I'll let DH have the bigger car and have something cute and flowery, with eyelashes or whatever sillyness is in vogue.

I'm not thin enough to dress like a 20 yearold, but if I was I would.

In any case me and my 15 y DD both often both end up in skinny jeans tucked into long boots and hoodies, so I'm not sure what 20 yr olds do different.

Startail · 22/06/2013 15:02

My first car was an ex demo car, bright yellow with stripes, one day when I'll only embarrass DD2 in uni holidays ........

LST · 22/06/2013 15:14

It I could drive I would have a car dripping in glitter and pibk stuff with big glittery eyelashes and a pink furry steering wheel cover. And I wouldn't care a jot what anybody else thought not one bit!

LST · 22/06/2013 15:14

That should have been if and pink not it and pibk Grin

NettoSuperstar · 22/06/2013 15:22

I want my next car to be pink with a chequered flag roof and a private plate.

SignoraStronza · 22/06/2013 15:26

I've seen a Skoda Yeti spring a very smart bow tie. Wink

SignoraStronza · 22/06/2013 15:26

sporting

SingingSilver · 22/06/2013 15:32

Those car testicles look so kickable! I hope they don't catch on over here, I'd have to restrain myself from booting them.

The towie lot do these daft things to their cars. Amy Childs had a car covered in pink sequins, god knows what the glue did to the paintwork.

And the fact is, some men love to target/intimidate/tailgate female drivers. These embellishments would act as moron magnets.

ParadiseChick · 22/06/2013 15:34

Lol @ a yeti in a bow tie!

Sallystyle · 22/06/2013 16:44

I love them Hmm

We are getting a car soon and when I pass my test I asked DH if I could put lashes on our soon to be joint car.

He said no Grin

5madthings · 22/06/2013 16:51

I like them... And soup the spotty ladybird car sounds cute!

If i can ever have my own little car i will decorate it and make it funky, just for fun because i can Grin

MakeGlutenFreeHay · 22/06/2013 19:15

I seem to have opened a right can of worms. (Idea for car embellishment? Worms? No? Ah well....)

TheYoniWayIsUp · 22/06/2013 19:27

I like them! Jesus, some of you have had the fun gene removed, haven't you?? If you think they're tacky, fair enough, don't have them! But why be so fucking sneery??

MakeGlutenFreeHay · 22/06/2013 19:30

Nope, fun gene still present and correct. Not sneering either - just amused by the weird and wonderful world we live in. (And did I mention creeped out?)

OP posts:
TheYoniWayIsUp · 22/06/2013 19:55

Sorry OP, I didn't mean you to be fair. You did say creepy, and I get that! I even get that some people hate them! But to call them an 'idiot warning system' as some people on this thread have is very sneery.

I think it shows a lack of intelligence to judge someone as an idiot just because they have different taste to you. I'd certainly avoid becoming friends with someone who sneered at others' choices. It would bother me more than car decor!
