Noticed on freecycle a request for any lego you are going to throw out. Trivial i know but really.

Yep this fine, put out it in pillowcase or one of those net bags you get for washing tights etc, basically something that NO Lego can come out of and then wash out in the machine, have done it a few times :)

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 14/06/2013 21:03

OK I'll give it a go Smile

RueDeWakening · 14/06/2013 21:21

Mine all went through the washer in a pillow case, then in the tumble dryer too :o it was a bit noisy though...

DBro and I are currently in the middle of custody battle over our childhood lego. Mum has declared its going back in her loft until we can stop arguing over it Grin

Manchesterhistorygirl · 14/06/2013 21:30

My ds are enjoying Lego that was mine, my sisters, DH's and my cousins, there are even a few bits if very early Lego on their 3rd generation of being played with.

I will be keeping it for any grandchildren that may arrive in years to come. Smile

twinklytoes · 14/06/2013 21:34

suppose it depends on who is placing it on freecycle.

just before christmas I responded to someone offering "tracy island..needs wiping down, been in storage" .... went to collect it, met by a grandmother, who's grandson was now too old to play. I thought I was only going to get tracy island... I ended up with three thunderbirds, tracy island and then a mini tracy island with lots of little figures. My 4yrold was very happy.

Sparklysilversequins · 15/06/2013 00:03

No, they sell it on EBay calling it "vintage" and silly parents pay vast quantities of cash for it for their spoilt kids .

bedmonster · 15/06/2013 01:06

No way does it get thrown out! My DM sold ours years ago at a carboot. She made £80 - I still remember it now! That was about 15 years ago before DBro and I had any DC. Now I feel very :( about it.

We have been building up a collection again over the years, the DC love it.

I think it's one of the reasons it's so expensive - it doesn't get damaged, it doesn't (generally) get thrown in the bin, so people aren't constantly buying it as it has such longevity.

Oldraver · 15/06/2013 01:12

I took some electrical items to the recycling bank at the back of our Co-Op

The area is a bit messy, lots of stuff not in bins and amongst it all was a shed load of Lego. I was a bit surprised

skyeskyeskye · 15/06/2013 01:22

My brother is 39 and all his Lego, 30 years old now, is in the lift. He had sets that made planes, spaceships etc. he hasn't got any kids but DD is 5yo and will hopefully play with it soon.

There is no way he would get rid, it's so expensive to buy nowadays

Mother2many · 15/06/2013 23:47

Nope...I still have lego from 20 yrs ago...and stupid me keeps adding to it...lol... the "new lego's" now a days! Hmm

Saved them for my "grandchildren"...then I had more kids...and now saving them for my grandchildren... LOL

Prob. never will toss it.

Our lego is probably worth more than anything else in our house.

storynanny · 16/06/2013 18:27

Paradisechick, oh the noise of rummaging for Lego first thing in the morning! I remember it well. My husband eventually made a box with dividers in for storage and lined it with green baize to drown out the noise!
Second keeping some lego for grandchildren. I have sold the complete sets after a big family discussion and kept a good selection of bricks windows doors figures etc as my children said that was the best part. Put the ancient models back together over the cold winter evenings last year, gave them a wash and sold them on eBay for nearly £200 after postage costs.
The ancient duplo and duplo train set are great hits with grandson. Got playmobile saved in the attic for him but can't face the millions of pieces yet!

storynanny · 16/06/2013 18:29

Ps I've always washed it in the washing machine with no problem, especially all the stuff I had in my classrooms over the years. Gave it all a good wash at the end of every term. And put back all the heads on figures!
