AIBU to hope for a girl?

To prove all my bloody colleagues wrong? Angry

I'm 7 months pg and we don't want to know the sex of the baby. Every colleague who asks, "Is it a boy or a girl?" responds to my "We'll find out on the day," with, "OK, but it's a boy of course".

Yes, my bump is all at the front, but maybe, just maybe, that's how I'm built and nothing to do with whether my baby had a penis or vagina. Not that I care either way but I don't want my unborn child to reinforce all their lazy stereotypes.

I'm probably BU, but as I'm 7 months gone you can disagree with me at your peril Grin

I think you're over reacting.
I think they're just making small talk.
But of course as you're 7 months pregnant I would never say what I think!

Fenton · 12/06/2013 14:46

People are annoying, the more pregnant you are is directly proportionate to how pregnant you are.

And it's a myth, my two pregnancies could not have been more different, - the very same outcome with each, however.

AmandaPandtheTantrumofDoom · 12/06/2013 14:46

God, drove me round the bend that crap. It may just be making conversation, but it is very irritating conversation!

Fenton · 12/06/2013 14:47

EH?

the more pregnant you are is directly proportionate to how annoying they are.

It doesn't even make sense to me anymore.

spg1983 · 12/06/2013 14:47

Everyone told me I was having a boy, my bump was totally all at the front and I honestly didn't mind either way. I had a girl :)

NinetiesBitch · 12/06/2013 14:48

Just wait until it's 'have you not had that baby yet?'!

mrspaddy · 12/06/2013 14:48

I don't get the bump thing. My mum says a bump at the front is a girl because I am carrying proud.. women at work say I'm carrying a boy.. one had the cheek to day you know by your bum ??? Which way is it? I am mostly out front (always had the bum!!!)

EugenesAxe · 12/06/2013 14:48

I held both on the front and had DS then DD. I did get noticeably less heartburn for DD, but that's about it. I was like a Gaviscon junkie with DS.

Cherriesarelovely · 12/06/2013 14:49

People are very annoying sometimes when you are pregnant. Many of the older ladies in the village where I work used to comment on the dreadful heartburn I complained of throughout my pregnancy. "Oh, you will have such a hairy baby!" they said. "mmmmm??!!" I thought! She was indeed hairy, she looked like a coconut and when we laid her down in the bath she looked like Meatloaf!

Tippee · 12/06/2013 14:54

Oh I was shaped to have a boy but I had a girl Grin I would have been happy with either :)

2tired2bewitty · 12/06/2013 14:54

When i was expecting dd there was another lady in my office who was at almost exactly the same stage of pregnancy (due dates two weeks apart). We were carrying very differently and the general consensus was that she was carrying a girl and me a boy. We both had girls.

People are just making conversation though, it makes a change from, ooh you're getting big / starting to waddle / shouldn't be carrying all those files Grin

AllSWornOut · 12/06/2013 14:59

Grin at Meatloaf!

Thanks for generally not raising my bp further.

I really don't care what we get but the comments are really starting to piss me off.

And don't start me on the colleague who told me she couldn't believe I'm only due in August. Angry "But, well, you know Hmm" I do, but as you've never been pg, you obviously don't is what I'm going to say next time Thankfully most colleagues know that the only thing you say to a pg woman is, "You look amazing/gorgeous/fabulous." Wink

i began to welcome the what sex speculations after some very unflattering discussion around how big my bump was and how surely the baby would arrive early? he did at 36 weeks

charleyturtle · 12/06/2013 15:21

how your bump sits or is shaped has nothing to do with babies gender, its just how your muscles are. its your boobs that give it away. boys need testosterone so your boobs wont grow as much but girls make you produce more oestrogen which makes your boobs grow.

AllSWornOut · 12/06/2013 15:27

At last no one had dared make any comments on my boobs yet. I suppose I should be thankful for small mercies Grin as my muscles are non-existent

I'm still finding it quite amusing at 21 weeks. My cravings (anything chocolatey) make it obviously a girl, but the shape of my bump (like a beach ball under my top) makes it obviously a boy. My intuition was wrong; I was convinced it was a boy but the scan said a girl. I'm huge according to some, but hardly showing according to others. I've got another 19 weeks or so for it to really get on my tits, (which have grown from fried eggs, but still aren't spectacular) but so far I'm not bothered by it.

MoonlightandRoses · 12/06/2013 15:31

Well, more boys than girls are meant to be born (think the natural ratio is about 105:100) so maybe they're just low risk gamblers? Grin

And congratulations too!

jacks365 · 12/06/2013 15:32

I carried the first two out front and the second two were much less pronounced to the point that when overdue with the third someone hadn't even realised I was pregnant. Nearly every old wives tale going had number4 as a boy but like her sisters she's a girl. I've carried high, low, bug and small bumps had morning sickness or not, heartburn with one not others but they were all born on or about their due dates, all bigger than average and all girls. It does get annoying when people claim to know the sex just by looking though.

Calabria · 12/06/2013 15:39

Only two people told me what the sex of my baby was. Neither of them were the sonographer Hmm
Two extreeeeeeeeeemely opinionated people Biscuit
They were both wrong Grin

FeckOffCup · 12/06/2013 16:31

The heartburn one was a load of old shite in my experience, I had it constantly and DD was born bald and stayed that way for at least 6 months.

1Veryhungrycaterpillar · 12/06/2013 16:57

'Are you sure it's not twins' was a particular favourite of mine!

AllSWornOut · 12/06/2013 17:07

Congratulations and commiserations to all of you going through the same.

And arf at the low risk gamblers. I might use that next time Smile

My mum- ex midwife told me I was huge and would be having a big boy. My bump didn't grow past 26 weeks (unrecognised pre-eclampsia) and I had a 5.5lb girl.

My friend, current midwife said she always had a 'feeling' about what sex baby people would have based on what would suit them. She was correct with me. but then, the 50/50 odds don't make it that tricky!

ophelia275 · 12/06/2013 17:17

Eh? If you don't care either way why are you hoping for a girl? Confused.com.

LadyBeagleEyes · 12/06/2013 17:48

Why do so many women on Mn get so annoyed when people make friendly remarks about their pregnancies?
You know that most of them are just feigning interest anyway, don't you, but are just trying to be nice and make conversation?
Next time a friend or aquaintance gets pregnant I've decided to not ever mention it at all ever, ever, ever.
Because whatever I say will be wrong and I don't really give a shit anyway.
