to use a hoover when I have no carpet

I hoover the wood floors. And the tiles in the kitchen. I cant be arsed with sweeping and scooping the dust up only to leave loads of it everywhere. I wipe the floors after of course, and use the 'brush' setting on the nossle so no awful scratchy noises.

Friend looked at me like I was a complete nutter when I told her I do this. She's got what looks to me like a giant mop thing to do her floors and it looks back breaking.

AIBU?

Nope it still gets dusty. We use a Hoover on wooden and tile floors, then mop every so often ( but hoovered probably 5 x more than mopping) - the whole mop/ bucket/ wetness etc drives me potty

Arabesque · 11/06/2013 12:36

I always hoover. I have semi solid wood floors and was told you should never use water on them.

lukeiamyourmother · 11/06/2013 12:36

I used to sweep, then dustpan and brush the hard to reach bits, then get the mop out and then go over it with a cloth....YAWN. Now I hoover, wipe with a damp cloth and done. Grin

Friend asked me why on earth I even had a hoover. ^ That's why!!!

I hoover my laminate and then clean with a floor wipe...job done, easy peasy :)

SkinnybitchWannabe · 11/06/2013 12:39

Yep me too. I love my Henry

HopALongMcLimpyLegs · 11/06/2013 12:40

I hoover all my laminate and tiled floors, and then occasionally wipe with a baby wipe if they look grubby.

PumpkinPositive · 11/06/2013 12:57

I live in the flat below people who Hoover their stripped floorboards. I can tell you those days are NOT fun.

MisselthwaiteManor · 11/06/2013 13:00

I Hoover the tiled floors, a mop alone isn't going to pick up all the dusty gritty crap and I'm not getting on my hands and knees with a dustpan and brush. It makes perfect sense to me.

Nacster · 11/06/2013 13:02

I have no carpet anywhere and hoover the lot! Sweeping is very boring. Grin

JollyShortGiant · 11/06/2013 13:04

I Hoover the laminate too. Ours has ridges so hoovering works much better than sweeping. I tend to sweep in the kitchen though. Not sure why.

Cakecrumbsinmybra · 11/06/2013 13:07

Of course you need to hoover wooden floors! Sweeping doesn't get rid of dust, etc like a hoover does. I don't have any carpets in my house at all and I never sweep. Isn't that what people did before Hoovers were invented??

plainjaney · 11/06/2013 13:07

I hoover the laminate, then I either steam mop or use dettol spray and mop depending on my mood.
I don't own a soft brush.

LulaPalooza · 11/06/2013 13:09

I vacuum our wooden floors and am sure our downstairs neighbours hate us for that, but then they regularly put their washing machine on during the week so that it reaches its spin cycle at 1am which always wakes me up, whereas I only ever vacuum on Saturdays during the day.

captainmummy · 11/06/2013 13:13

I hoover my Karndean and then use one of those big-dusher things on a stick, like they use in hospital to pick up dust

HazleNutt · 11/06/2013 13:16

Of course I hoover the floors (and I have no carpets in my house.) Sweeping just moves the dust around.

2rebecca · 11/06/2013 13:17

I use the brush attachment on my dyson on the wood floors and a small turbo hair removing head on tiled floors (the same one I use on carpets). I have a big duster mop but that just pushes the dust around. I only mop the wood every couple of months and tiles monthly (shoeless household)

Squitten · 11/06/2013 13:19

The only carpet we have is a square bit in the living room section of the open plan. We hoover everywhere. The cleaner mops everywhere when she comes once a fortnight so I generally don't have to unless someone makes a hell of a mess!

Tweasels · 11/06/2013 13:22

I vacuum my wooden floors and the tiled Kitchen floor I have a special head for my vacuum for wooden floors (smug).

I also vacuum lamp shades.

My motto is if it can't be vacuumed or wiped with a wipe it isn't getting cleaned.

valiumredhead · 11/06/2013 13:46

I also hoover wooden floors, they get SO dusty! My hoover has a wooden floor attachment.

Calabria · 11/06/2013 13:50

I vacuumed the tiled kitchen floor and the hall lampshade only this morning when I was doing the rest of the ground floor.

I vacuum curtains, and cobwebs from the ceiling too.

holidaysarenice · 11/06/2013 15:06

is it bad that i hoover the lino in the bathroom? :P

mrsjay · 11/06/2013 15:13

I hoover my laminate hardwood floors I cant be arse with brushing and trying to work the brush shovel combo it is a PITa I also hoover the bathroom and kitchen well i do brush the kitchen the hoover up

ParadiseChick · 11/06/2013 15:17

Hoover the hardwood flooring pretty much daily, quick mop every couple of days. No carpets at all here.

I love seeing the dirt from mopping. Make a me cringe at the thought of mucky carpets.

UtterflyButterfly · 11/06/2013 15:26

We have no carpets, just wood or ceramic tiles and I vacuum all of it. The tiles get mopped when I think of it, probably once a week, and the wood gets a damp cloth when I notice marks on it.

Like paradise the amount of dirt I see when I mop, and the frequency with which I empty my vacuum bag, makes me realise how much dirt was left in the carpets when I had them!

valiumredhead · 11/06/2013 15:42

I Hoover the lino tooGrin
