To not take my child on the very occasional trip in the car without a car seat?

People sometimes suggest that they will pick me up from places (I don't drive) often tell me I'm overreacting when I refuse a lift because they don't have the car seat with me. DD is in her next stage carseat so I can't take it with me. I've come back on the bus before in the pouring rain because I've refused a lift and been told that I'm being PFB. I just know that the one time I did it, something would happen.

Yanbu and I've never done it. I saw a toddler being held on the lap of a passenger in a 2 seatee sports car recently. Outside pets at home so not an emergency! I reported them. That kids life matters to me if not them!

Glad she stays in the pushchair.

Buses round here are awful, the drivers slam on the brakes and send people hurtling forwards all the time.

Never worth the risk. I am slightly obsessive about car safety and wouldn't even put ds2 (21months) forward facing, let alone without a car seat at all! Most accidents happen close to home, so the short trip rationale doesn't wash with me at all.
