Im 40 in 3months time. The wrinkles started but lately I've had loads of spots. Not little ones....massive big red things!!
I named one Marissa, Im sure it had its own blood system!

treaclesoda · 06/06/2013 11:35

I feel your pain! YANBU

squoosh · 06/06/2013 11:38

You might have oily skin that is also dehydrated.

Dry skin lacks oil, dehydrated skin lacks water.

rumbelina · 06/06/2013 11:57

I'm nearly 41 - have always had oily skin and been prone to blackheads and spots.

I think you might be right, squoosh, I don't drink much water in the day - though do eat a lot of fruit and veg. I'm sure I could do with more water though.

I only used to moisturise once a day but I'm starting to do more, I need to be nice to my skin. I just can't get a happy medium where I'm not getting breakouts.

I have the skin of a teenager AND a 40 year old Confused

Are you cleansing your skin properly?

scaevola · 06/06/2013 12:11

YANBU!

But I'm in the same boat. Never having had many spots before - damn you, perimenopause!

squoosh · 06/06/2013 12:12

Good quality fish oils such as these and probiotics such as these will help your skin no end.

rumbelina · 06/06/2013 14:46

Ann I have been slack tbh but even when I'm good about cleansing I still seem to get spots - not massive whiteheads, just red bumps and blackheads.

squoosh - thanks for the advice, will cheaper ones do the job as well??

Have you ever tried dairy free?

You might also have rosacea snd can get treatment for it.

FarBetterNow · 06/06/2013 15:01

I had spots for years, then gave up dairy, sweets and processed cakes and such like and skin is finenow (usually).
Wished I'd known more about diet when I was younger.

I think spots come from inside you more than cleansing - IFYSWIM

EagleRiderDirk · 06/06/2013 16:47

I barely had spots till I was in my 30s and now its like I have old and teenage skin. Ffs. And on lot of stuff for wrinkles feeds the spots and the stuff for spots does naff all for wrinkles.

Lush enzymion is the only product I've found designed for both.

ARealDame · 06/06/2013 17:28

Its probably de hormones I'm afraid! Hormonal upheavel at the start of/during menopause can give you spots.

rumbelina · 07/06/2013 05:47

The spots are nothing new, ARealDame! Or I've been per menopause since I was 12 :)

I just thought they might bugger off by the time I was 40

Eagle same here. Is the Lush enzymion good for sensitive skin? My skin hates everything.

prissyenglisharriviste · 07/06/2013 06:07

Ah, rumbelina, my skin twin. I was only today wondering about going to the doc, stripping off to my waist, and demanding some help. I am fed up with it. I can't wear anything sleeveless or with a low (or even v ) neckline. Today I have three massive sore spots on my neck and it just looks horrific. To cover them all I'd have to wear a roll neck and a scarf to swathe round my face.

But in the interim, I'll drink more fecking water and get back onto oil cleansing method.

I'm 42. Depending on the angle, I can be both crepey and boil ridden. It's a joy. I look like a wreck. And there is no way these fecker s can be covered by concealer. They are the size of marbles.

EagleRiderDirk · 07/06/2013 06:34

keatsie my skin is a little sensitive and their stuff is fine for me, in theory it should be OK. If you pop into a store they'll normally give you a little sample pot for free.

justwondering72 · 07/06/2013 06:39

I feel your pain. I've never had great skin but since turning 40 last summer it had got worse and worse. Undoubtedly hormonal, it peaks in horribleness the week before my period. Have a feeling that dietary changes might help but an funding that very challenging with everything b else going on ie family life and children occupying 99% of my available brain space!

So depressing. Am of to the Dr next week as its really getting me down.

KeatsiePie · 07/06/2013 07:40

Eagle thanks that's good to know. I don't think there's a store near me but will see if they send samples online.

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/06/2013 07:48

Retin A cream works on wrinkles and spots, I've got sensitive skin and its the only thing that's worked for me.

You can ask your dr for it, most Prescription stuff makes my skin sore.

ItsDecisionTime · 07/06/2013 10:26

You could have a recurring bacterial infection. Ask doc for some antibiotics.

mrsjay · 07/06/2013 10:48

you would think so eh Confused I have wrinkles and greasy spotty skin your think they oil would make my skin a bit more flexible and immune to wrinkles but not so , I am not really selling myself here Grin

Samie10 · 07/06/2013 10:53

Botox....

Samie10 · 07/06/2013 10:54

Botox will at least half the problem....

kiwigirl42 · 07/06/2013 11:00

Le Roche Posay effaclar creams have worked wonders. Effaclar duo and effaclar A I are for active spots and Effaclar K is for keeping them away.
They are miracle workers - if I miss using the Effaclar K for more than 3 days I start getting spots again. It even stops spots when you can feel them but not see them. Now I've only got wrinkles Grin
