to think LIFE'S TOO SHORT for sewing on Brownie badges

GoTheFkToSleep · 03/06/2013 21:44

I would probably not do it at all but found a note-to-self written by DD2 saying...

'I am sad becose mummy did not come to my promise party and [DD2] won't let me sleep in her bed and my tadploes have turnd intoo froggs.'

I can't pile more misery onto DD2s wee shoulders so have spent last 45 mins cursing while trying to sew fecking badges on to horrible yellow uniform. Grrr

Cost me £8 to have them sewn on by a local sewing shop. Money well spent.

CSIJanner · 03/06/2013 21:46

Do you have any wonderweb? Cut off a piece, stic behind badge and then iron it permanently on.

ThreeBeeOneGee · 03/06/2013 21:47

At least you didn't try to sew them on to the sash. I think it's made of Kevlar or something.

There must be a Brownie badge for sewing on badges!
If not, is there an iron- on version?

FryOneFatManic · 03/06/2013 21:49

I don't mind sewing the badges for DD and DS ( Guide and Cub). However, DS's Akela swears by badge glue, here.

peeriebear · 03/06/2013 21:49

There's always Bostik.
Bless her little tadpole sadness!

RobotLover68 · 03/06/2013 21:49

Be careful if you use iron on stuff - Cub badges melt, so Brownie ones probably do too

Jacaqueen · 03/06/2013 21:50

Just glue them.

Bane of my life.

Woah - was not expecting actual useful advice.

Don't have wonderweb (or iron for that matter Grin) and no time to outsource. Wish I had posted yesterday...

£8, verycold?! You were robbed. I paid £2. But that was per badge. I've never admitted that to anyone before. Two boys through cubs and scouts, so a LOT of badges, but it was money well spent.

Yonirubbishnamesleft · 03/06/2013 21:55

Staple them on...

GoTheFkToSleep · 03/06/2013 21:56

And love the idea of glue - have plenty of pritt stick and school glue. That could be the short term solution methinks!

OP posts:
Verycold · 03/06/2013 21:57

Ha! It was £8 for 6 badges!

ImpatientOne · 03/06/2013 21:59

Don't do it!

Sew or wonder web them on a blanket - if they stay on into Guides they will want them moving to a camp blanket anyway!

Another bonus is that blankets don't need washing as much so wonderweb or glue is fine Wink

Never buy a sash they are a nightmare and do not be conned into buying the blanket in the Guiding catalogue as it's the size of a postage stamp! A fleecy Ikea one works well.

It's only taken 20 years as a Brownie leader for me to learn this Grin

StealthPolarBear · 03/06/2013 21:59

I'm counting down the days till DS does his sewing badge and this becomes his job. Unfortunately they do that in Cubs apparently, and he's only a Beaver.

AgentProvocateur · 03/06/2013 22:00

Oh, in that case I was robbed! Wink

Taffeta · 03/06/2013 22:00

Why didn't I know about badge glue??

Years of Rainbows and sore fingers and craply sewn on badges. When she goes up to Brownies in Sep I'm treating us to some badge glue.

noyouhavehadawee · 03/06/2013 22:04

dear god i have holes in my fingers from sewing on that bloody sash , i learnt the hard way and had the total shame as i glued them on after the initial two and was presented at pick up from brown owl a sticky stained sash as they had come off after dd left it near a radiator - oh the shame Blush

holidaysarenice · 03/06/2013 22:05

Take them to your mums!!

DorisIsWaiting · 03/06/2013 22:09

Wow this thread has made me VERY chuffed I thought I was shit at sewing but turns out I can't be that bad ! Grin.

elmerelephant · 03/06/2013 22:14

I glued my sons Beaver badges on, and was "told off" when he went to cubs as you were supposed to un pick all 10 badges and resew them on to the new uniform. I got told off again!! when he joined scouts

Use glue its great

Haggischucker · 03/06/2013 22:20

My dad was responsible for badge attachment and used superglue, once when I was wearing uniform, my mum went mad but thankfully hadn't dried! :)
