It's only hair. 'Bravery' is rescuing kittens from burning buildings, not having your head shaved.

And a million other Things Not To Do When Pissed. I went to the street party, which was a charity fundraiser, and they were shaving men's heads as a fundariser, so I reckoned they could shave mine too. It's only hair, it will grow back. Only I feel a bit guilty about everyone going oh wow you're so brave. It's really no big deal...

(Waaah, I have no hair...)

Are you cold?

It's a fierce look. Bet it suits.

I couldn't do it, been growing my bloody hair for 3 years.

LuisSuarezTeeth · 02/06/2013 23:20

Course it's not brave, did you raise any money though?

mrswoz · 02/06/2013 23:20

Bet it feels REALLY weird, no? Grin

I always thought, these fundraiser things where people shave heads had started off as cancer fundraising things, as it was common with some cancer treatments to lose hair? Perhaps I totally got the wrong end of the stick!

WorraLiberty · 02/06/2013 23:21

If it's no big deal then why the last line of your OP?

Of course it's brave...and no it's not in the same league as saving lives but not all bravery is.

How much did you raise?

SolidGoldBrass · 02/06/2013 23:22

£69 which is not bad for a spontaneous whipround. (and an amusing number anyway).

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 02/06/2013 23:26

Well done Grin

LuisSuarezTeeth · 02/06/2013 23:26

Ah I see you did it spontaneously. I do admire you for that Smile

SolidGoldBrass · 02/06/2013 23:28

I'm not dismissing anyone's fundraising or bravery in any shape or form. I'm feeling a bit silly and muddled about the whole business, because I don't feel it was that big a deal to cut my hair off, and yet other people were so very impressed, and I am just generally feeling a bit wobbly. It was a street party raising funds for cancer research, and several friends have died of cancer, and also I found out last night that another friend has just died (heart attack not cancer) and just generally a bit wobbly.

It is brave though......well done! So sorry to hear about your friends x

manticlimactic · 02/06/2013 23:35

I cried when the hairdresser gave me a mullet. I cried for days. I would consider shaving hair off brave.

SolidGoldBrass · 02/06/2013 23:49

I have my plait. I got them to cut the whole plait off and then get the clippers out, so i can either sell the plait on ebay or just nail it above the door to frighten unexpected callers...

Punkatheart · 02/06/2013 23:55

Yes it is brave. I have lost my hair several times through cancer and cancer treatments - I felt really low when I was bald.

So sorry about your friend. Have a hug.

AuntPepita · 02/06/2013 23:55

Or send it here

AllYoursBabooshka · 02/06/2013 23:59

I thinks it's brave.

Well done. :)

AllYoursBabooshka · 03/06/2013 00:00

(Why does that smiley always look so farking sarcastic?!)

TheHerringScreams · 03/06/2013 00:03

I think it's brave. Not the act itself, but generally strangers would look at you? It's brave because you will make yourself stick out more, so it could potentially lead to more attention- which for some people would be hard?

Anyway, well done. Sorry about your friends and for a whip round, that's a great amount of money!

ilovesooty · 03/06/2013 00:03

I did it for charity a few years back. I took the view that it was only hair, and I was lucky enough to know that for me it was a choice and would grow back.

Good for you!

freddiefrog · 03/06/2013 00:08

I think it's brave

I couldn't do it

I refused to answer the door to a Chinese takeaway delivery man after a bleach escapade and I ended up looking like Keith Lemon.

Well done!

McNewPants2013 · 03/06/2013 00:13

It is brave thing to do, because I couldn't do it.

Well done op

SolidGoldBrass · 03/06/2013 00:15

There was a little element of foot-stamping feminism in it as well; they were passing the hat round for men to have their legs waxed as well as their heads shaved. So I said, right, do my head too, cut off the long ponytail and wave it about.

(I am going to be just a little bit sorry tomorrow, I think...)

OP posts:
Elquota · 03/06/2013 00:18

Well done!

WorraLiberty · 03/06/2013 00:22

If you really are pissed and feeling a bit wobbly, no-one should have shaved your head to be honest.

I hope you're still ok with it in the morning...but they really shouldn't have gone ahead.

AmberLeaf · 03/06/2013 00:24

Think of the time you'll save not having to wash your hair!

Wow though, I think that was rather daring of you as a spur of the moment type thing.

2Retts · 03/06/2013 00:27

Definitely brave SolidGoldBrass...as McNewPants says...I couldn't do it either. I think losing teeth and hair (even thinning hair), whether voluntarily or not is a bigger deal for women.

Even the guys with the funny shaped heads can get away with shaving all their hair off without a second glance in the big wide world for the most part.

freddiefrog...I can identify; made my daughter answer the door to the grocery delivery driver when he turned up early whilst I was in the midst of covering up the 'silver lining'

2Retts · 03/06/2013 00:29

Agreed WorraLiberty.
