It's only hair. 'Bravery' is rescuing kittens from burning buildings, not having your head shaved.

And a million other Things Not To Do When Pissed. I went to the street party, which was a charity fundraiser, and they were shaving men's heads as a fundariser, so I reckoned they could shave mine too. It's only hair, it will grow back. Only I feel a bit guilty about everyone going oh wow you're so brave. It's really no big deal...

(Waaah, I have no hair...)

Worra: no blame attaches to any of them, they were really really concerned that I was going to be OK with it before anyone got any scissors out. I got more pissed afterwards. And if I have come home and had a bit of an 'AAARGH!' moment that's my problem. It's only hair, it will grow again...

Can't imagine anyone being able to talk you out of something you'd decided you wanted to do SGB Grin

((hug)) sorry for loss of your friends.

Hope you're OK in the morning. It may not be the bravest thing but it's still brave, especially on the spur of the moment.

Turbans are nice!

Well done, SGB! And you would raise £69 Grin

Yh, it is only hair. It grows. Shaved heads tend to look very stylish on women - especially Ellie Goulding, but I'm sure you carry it off well, too!

An extra well done for banging the equality drum. Come back & tell us how you & your head are getting along tomorrow.

well done SGB on all counts. brave or not, you're some woman.

MusicalEndorphins · 03/06/2013 03:41

Whether brave or not, you have a good heart. I am sorry for the loss of your freind.

MusicalEndorphins · 03/06/2013 03:41

Doh! FRIEND! Friend! I always type ei for some reason.

Tee2072 · 03/06/2013 06:14

I have a friend in the States who does this every year for a children's cancer charity.

And every year after it's done she has a few drinks and a little cry.

So, yes, it's brave.

Glitterandglue · 03/06/2013 07:11

The bravery aspect, I have always thought, comes into it if it's something you're scared of. Like, it would be brave for someone who is scared of water to get into a pond to rescue an animal. It wouldn't be brave of me to do that because I'm not scared of water. The act itself is irrelevant.

I always get people telling me I'm brave about having my mohawk/shaved designs/red/blue/green hair, and every time I say no, I'm not brave, because other people's responses don't worry me. For someone who would be concerned about other's opinions, to do something which makes you stick out that much would be brave, yeah. But it's not brave for me to do this.

Montybojangles · 03/06/2013 07:24

Well done.

Slightly hyperventilating when I saw the word plait...how long exactly was your hair?

I remember getting mine cut very short as a teenager, it was something I had thought through and planned, but it was still quite emotional so can understand the aargh moment!

It was a very brave thing to do, good on you. please give your hair to the little princess trust, that way you have helped people with cancer twice with your fantastic actions.

LadyRainicorn · 03/06/2013 07:31

I did this last year and raised £300. I went from about 2 feet of hair to bald. I also felt really weird about all the people going on about being brave - my mum was going through treatment for breast cancer at the time (full works, surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy) and all I had done was take off something that grows back.

Maybe people's identity is more bound up with what their hair looks like than I previously thought.

SolidGoldBrass · 03/06/2013 09:57

Well I have just measured the plait and it's a foot long. It was about 4 years growth (with intermittent chopping the ends off when they got too ratty.) I have a number 4 crop, basically. It looks fine. I actually like the way it feels when I rub my head.

LalyRawr · 03/06/2013 10:01

You can donate the plait to somewhere like the. little Princess Trust!

ScarletLady02 · 03/06/2013 10:05

I do think it's brave....hair is a symbol of femininity to a lot of women and it can be heartbreaking to lose it. When my Mum had to have chemo, she shaved it all off the day before so she had control over it...she didn't want it to fall out, she wanted to cut it off herself.

Of course it'll grow back, but I have more than half my head shaved and I'd still be nervous about getting rid of all of it.

SolidGoldBrass · 03/06/2013 10:30

Would the Little Princess trust want it? I am 48 and, well it's rather salt-and-pepper greying, so might not be much use for making children's wigs.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 03/06/2013 10:34

Good for you!

And yes, it is brave. Just because other things are braver, doesn't mean you didn't take a bit of a plunge, does it?!

ConfusedPixie · 03/06/2013 11:46

I was going to suggest donating it too, I sent mine to the little princess trust in october :) well done for shaving it off!

AmberSocks · 03/06/2013 11:48

saving kittens from burning buildings is silly not brave!

Bumpotato · 03/06/2013 12:30

My daughter (8) donated her plait to the Princess Trust when her Granda lost his hair due to chemo. £69 is brill for a quick whip round, well done!

LadyRainicorn · 03/06/2013 13:24

Hahah at rubbing your head, try not to do it in public, you'll get funny looks. Not something that happened to me, oh no

But I forgot to say well done. Doesn't matter whether you think yourself brave or not, you did some good in the world.

ICBINEG · 03/06/2013 13:28

nice one!

What would be 'braver' would be women letting their armpit/leg hair grow for charity....

Bet you wouldn't have many sign up for that!

YoniBottsBumgina · 03/06/2013 13:39

It'll grow back. Great time of year to do it - bet you feel lovely and cool!

In fact that's the thing I like least about having short hair - it grows back far too quickly.

Can we see a picture or do you not do identifying pics on here? :)

WafflyVersatile · 03/06/2013 13:39

You have not seen the shape of my head. Wearing shaved hair would be braver than any kitten-saving exploits.

WafflyVersatile · 03/06/2013 13:42

straw poll: would women dye their hair for charity, say for a month?

would men?
