Should say "womanfriend" instead of "girlfriend"?

I think you've confused 'feminism' with 'people who can do jobs', haven't you?

It's not some new kind of tractor that can do the farming of ten men.

Ilikethebreeze · 04/06/2013 20:14

Look at it from a man's pov.
You are standing in the garage, or welding, or tiling, or lorry driving, or central heating installing...and on and on, and a woman comes on the radio and goes on about women wanting to be equal to men?
"What women" they say, looking around themselves?

clarabellabunting · 04/06/2013 20:21

What about in a primary school staffroom, full of female teachers?
Or in a nursery school, full of female nursery workers? Or on a hospital ward, staffed by majority female nurses? Or in the marketing department I work in, which is 100% female from the director down to the assistants?

All of those men in the garage have wives, mothers, sisters, etc. who presumably work too, just not in the garage. I doubt the radio broadcast would confuse them too much... Hmm

FreyaSnow · 04/06/2013 20:25

I'm not sure what you're saying ILTB. Are you saying that a male welder thinks women don't do anything, and if he went home and found his stay at home wife had gone out and left the baby at home screaming, unsupervised, he'd just shrug and say, 'babies don't need looking after." Or if he'd had an accident, and the paramedic was a woman, he'd be unable to see her there and would be amazed that the ambulance had driven itself. Or are you saying that male welders really want half of all available welding jobs to be done by women so that they have more competition, and are trying really hard to be as welcoming to women welders as possible to make the world more equal?

LRDtheFeministDragon · 04/06/2013 20:26

Erm, no, sorry, I don't know any men that stupid.

They do realize women exist, and are equal, even if they're not in the building.

Ilikethebreeze · 04/06/2013 20:33

So men think women are equal? Hmm
Either they do or they dont.

There are loads and loads and loads of jobs where no or virtually no women.
There are men in hsopitals, some male teachers etc.
admittedly only 2% of nursery workers are male.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 04/06/2013 20:35

It may surprise you to know, ilike, that 'men' aren't a homogeneous mass with only one thought between them any more than women are.

Mitchy1nge · 04/06/2013 20:37

this is really fucking funny

clarabellabunting · 04/06/2013 20:40

I don't get where you make the leap from there being very few female welders to women not being in society to the point that men are getting confused when they're mentioned on the radio?!

Ilikethebreeze · 04/06/2013 20:41

And no seeker, that does not explain the boardroom/desk jobs situation. But it really isnt going to seep into a mans psyche anytime soon, that women are equal to men is it?

And women are also going to have to work the samish full time hours as well.

clarabellabunting · 04/06/2013 20:42

Isn't it much more important that women are under-represented in parliament, and in boardrooms? (which has nothing to do with physical strength or endurance)

FreyaSnow · 04/06/2013 20:43

Can you not just explain what your point is, ILTB?

Here's mine. There are some types of work that only women can do, pregnancy and breastfeeding. All the other types of work can be done by both men and women. There are some situations where it is preferable for either men or women to do a particular role. For example, a male client may want a male therapist if his issues are to do with a particular issue (say prostate cancer).

In all other cases, jobs can be done by both men and women. There are sexist societal barriers which stop capable people doing work they want to do. These barriers should be removed.

I do not what you are saying. I think you may be saying that many jobs are done by men because women cannot do them, but you haven't given any evidence that women can't do them.

clarabellabunting · 04/06/2013 20:43

Do you think that most men consciously think that women are not their equals and that they are superior?

LRDtheFeministDragon · 04/06/2013 20:48

Well said freya.

Ilikethebreeze · 04/06/2013 20:57

Why dont women do those jobs?
Or even drive vans. Cant remember the last time I saw a woman van driver.

This is my conclusion to this.
Until millions of women work in the mans world[with exceptopn of desk jobs], they will not be considered equal. Why should they? Why shouldnt women get dirty, hump stuff around, risk life and limb etc?

seeker · 04/06/2013 21:04

"clara. But how can women hope to be equal in society if they are not even there?"

Why does this apply to the sewage works and not the board room?.

Likeabreeze- are you a namechanger?

garlicgrump · 04/06/2013 21:05

But they do get dirty, hump stuff around, risk life & limb etc. You've been given loads of examples on this thread.

I agree with Mitch, though, this has become very funny!

Now we've established that women shift heavy stuff and get dirty, can we have full equality?

FreyaSnow · 04/06/2013 21:06

ILTB, I think posters have already answered this question fully by explaining how much work women do, what kinds of work women do and their own working experiences.

Ilikethebreeze · 04/06/2013 21:11

540 men died last year from work related incidents. 40 women died from work related incidents.

garlic, I already realise you will not understand what I am saying, as you dont think most men are stronger than most women.

Mitchy1nge · 04/06/2013 21:14

is this a regular parodying a thick cunt or are you actually for real? I am still laughing but with slight Hmm just in case

come to the tack room and chat to women who are used to dirt and danger, many (most?) will drive HGVs and I'm sure we all lug heavy sacks of animal feed and bales of shavings etc - my (large farm animal) vet is a woman who drives a van, have had a female farrier (she drives a big van) and all my cleaners have always been women so some are obviously not afraid of dirt or hard work

I see women doing this sort of thing Every Day

in fact I drove a van style land rover for work (and fun) for ages

Ilikethebreeze · 04/06/2013 21:16

Freya, see my posts on here today.
What sexist barriers are there to doing tling, central heating instalation, welding, car mechanics etc? i wasnt aware there were any?

seeker · 04/06/2013 21:16

ILTB - are you a namechanger?

Ilikethebreeze · 04/06/2013 21:18

Yes, many vets are women, yes women can drive HGVs but not a full working day, same as animal feed etc.

seeker · 04/06/2013 21:20

ILTB- are you a namechanger?

Mitchy1nge · 04/06/2013 21:21

do you think vets and farriers can only work part time? And soldiers? Is there something mentally wrong with you?
