Does NOT mean you should drop your speed to 35MPH!!!!

Ianbu!

HATE this, seriously why do 50, traffic moving nicely and then bang on the break just as you go past?!

Note I didn't nearly crash but we had to slow right down and of course it was muggins here who got stuck at the next set.of traffic lights of doom

limited look under "road rage" - think that's where you'll find it...

Fakebook · 04/06/2013 12:32

I think you'll only find rude hand gestures instead of names in the road rage section. The middle finger up, cupping of balls, "w" sign infront of forehead etc...

spixblue · 04/06/2013 14:31

I just wanted to lay the target/limit issue to rest:

Highway Code rule 146

Adapt your driving to the appropriate type and condition of road you are on. In particular do not treat speed limits as a target. It is often not appropriate or safe to drive at the maximum speed limit

The Highway Code is ther to make the roads safe for everyone. Aggressive braking and accelerating is a bad habit, on that I agree with the OP. But if any of you speed demons ever run me over, by God I'll haunt your impatient butts!

Ilovemyself · 04/06/2013 15:06

Of course, that is written for morons that would try to do 60 in thick fog on a twisty mountain passs.

Adapt your driving to suit the conditions etc means don't do 40 when conditions mean it is safe to do 60.

AKAK81 · 04/06/2013 17:10

Nothing wrong with aggressive acceleration - why else buy a fast car!

Ilovemyself · 04/06/2013 17:15

Or an even faster bike

limitedperiodonly · 04/06/2013 17:16

Now ilovemyself you must know the word moron is a red rag, and not just on this subject.

Although, like me, as an experienced and mature driver you'd never respond to provocation.

I can't vouch for others Wink

AKAK81 · 04/06/2013 17:19

Ilovemyself - I love your thinking!

AKAK81 · 04/06/2013 17:20

Or an even faster car lol

Ilovemyself · 04/06/2013 17:28

Perhaps I should be happy with my 0-60 in 3.5 secs. I guess I would need to stop accelerating then though...........

AKAK81 · 04/06/2013 17:41

Brilliant - make sure you never exceed 70 though! ;-)

Ilovemyself · 04/06/2013 17:47

Oops. Another banned word. I will remember for future!

CrabbyBigBottom · 05/06/2013 08:55

Ooh and look - greater powers to fine people who pootle along in the middle lane on motorways, holding everyone up, too.
www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-22770064

Ditto tailgating on motorways and mobile phone use. Hooray!

Lazyjaney · 05/06/2013 08:57

There really does need to be a published minimum speed for motorways and 50/60mph roads.

CrabbyBigBottom · 05/06/2013 09:04

I see your point Lazy, but I think the problem would be that it really is very dependent on people's interpretation of the conditions. 50mph on a motorway is dangerous in fine conditions but sensible in fog, for instance.

I certainly think that letting people pass their test and then turn them loose on motorways without ever having driven on one, is insane! I think there should be compulsory motorway lessons and another mini- test. So many dangerous, dangerous people on motorways.

infamouspoo · 05/06/2013 09:04

some people will be going slower on those country roads marked as A roads. tractors. cyclists. horse riders. if you can't see round bends then fucking slow down.

RoooneyMara · 05/06/2013 09:07

I was taught by my instructor (female, 20 years ago) that the limit is a target.
She was concerned that I would be marked down for 'not making progress' as it were.

I have ignored her ever since I passed.

RoooneyMara · 05/06/2013 09:07

Oh and she also told me to go a bit over the limit.

Ilovemyself · 05/06/2013 09:09

Infamouspoo. Everyone agrees that you drive according to the conditions. If I can see far enough ahead to stop at the speed I am doing - be it 30mph or 130mph - then it is not unsafe.

Ilovemyself · 05/06/2013 09:10

And I see that middle lane jiggers and tailgaters are going to be cracked down on lol

Lazyjaney · 05/06/2013 09:16

"I see your point Lazy, but I think the problem would be that it really is very dependent on people's interpretation of the conditions. 50mph on a motorway is dangerous in fine conditions but sensible in fog, for instance"

Sure, but its the same rule to apply re modify for conditions. But hat the pootling/tailgating thing is not addressing is the root cause, ie people feel they can travel slowly. If there was a definite guidance to travel close to the speed limit (whatever is safe) - ie it is a target - then IMO a lot of the poor drivers would know they needed to buck up.

Ilovemyself · 05/06/2013 09:19

Hoggers - not jiggers lol. Bloody autocorrect.

CrabbyBigBottom · 05/06/2013 09:25

Lazy But then you'd get people saying, "but officer in my opinion the weather was closing in, and that's why I was doing 37mph in a 60 limit" whilst pointing to the single fluffy white cloud on the blue horizon. Wink
