to think this recipe on the BBC site is too complicated?

Yet another example of how out of touch the BBC is with Joe Normal. There's a recession on, food is expensive and they are churning out unrealistic recipes aimed at people with a large food budget, well-equipped kitchen and sophisticated tastes. Sod those of us struggling on a limited budget and lacking in professional training.

Oh man, I see what you mean. There's no way I could do that. And I'm a very good cook, if I do say so myself.

Some very witty reviews there!

Fab😃

I've had a go at it this morning. I haven't got two of the key ingredients so had to substitute. It's just totally unrealistic and I've ended up with mozzarella on rye.

I failed. I didn't have one of the key ingredients.

Sad

Nutella was a good substitute.

Well if you think that's bad look at this! Slightly less ingredients but the method appears more complicated.

I like the top tip though..

Jojobump1986 · 02/06/2013 11:14

I tried it this morning too but I forgot the toasting stage & we didn't have any bay leaves. Was still v tasty though! Grin

McNewPants2013 · 02/06/2013 11:17

I dont think i will give this recipe a go. seems rather time consuming and ratgher difficult.

snooter · 02/06/2013 11:17

15yo son wanting to cook recently & made a couple of things from the Jamie Oliver 30 min book - I found the recipes really wasteful (half a can of coconut milk for example) & expensive (2 different types of curry paste & 3 different fresh herbs in one recipe). Great that he's keen & of course I used the half portions of ingredients in something else but very uneconomical esp for a teenager who will be needing to shop & budget for himself fairly soon.

EyesCrossedLegsAkimbo · 02/06/2013 11:28

In this house that program was renamed Jamies 30 Minute Meals for Millionaires. I think he got the message though as his Minuscule 15 Minute Meals work out much cheaper.

But 5 tablespoons of jam! That's like half a jar Shock

Wildwaterfalls · 02/06/2013 11:35

I tried it this morning but found I had to use every piece of equipment in the kitchen and there was marmite on the ceiling when I was done. I hate recipes like this.

Bobyan · 02/06/2013 11:43

I just can't follow the recipe.

lisianthus · 02/06/2013 12:57

Can't stand this sort of recipe where you have to go to five different specialist shops for the ingredients. Do you think I could get them online?

I bet it will look nothing like the photo.

MasterSplinter · 02/06/2013 14:29

And the children of course turn up their nose at it and ask for something familiar instead like confit of duck and the BBC again have forgotten that dc just aren't interested in exotic dishes.

BBC Bastards.

an alternative to Christmas day turkey!! Excellent!

Pumpkinette · 02/06/2013 14:43

I hate it when they think up these c

Pumpkinette · 02/06/2013 14:44

Damn sorry - stupid

DearPrudence · 02/06/2013 14:46

Christ, it's like the technical challenge in the bake-off. Could attempt this if the instructions were more detailed, but even with my cooking knowledge I think I'd be heading for disaster.

How on earth are you supposed to know when it's 'done'? FFS Hmm

squeakytoy · 02/06/2013 14:46

"of course I used the half portions of ingredients in something else but very uneconomical esp for a teenager who will be needing to shop & budget for himself fairly soon."

Not really, because if you meal plan, and use your fridge and freezer, then those items just get used up in a few days.

Pumpkinette · 02/06/2013 14:47

Argh. I will try again. Stupid phone sending posts before I finish typing!

What I was trying to say was. I hate it when they think up these complicated recipes and don't bother giving you a wine recommendation. How are we supposed to know what wine will go with marmite?

NoelHeadbands · 02/06/2013 14:49

Oh honestly, who could be fagged with all that?

Cloud Cuckoo Land Hmm

SilverOldie · 02/06/2013 14:58

Surely you need to be Cordon Bleu trained to make what's in the OP's link? Grin

:o :o at' low carbing, so tried it without the bread.'
