to ask, if you live in Windsor, does Legoland drive you mad?

Have attempted to go to legoland twice this week. First time queued in traffic for an hour and half to be turned away. Yesterday queued for 45 mins just to get down the off ramp from the m4 before giving up. How in heavens name do you cope if you actually live there and need to go from a to b?

Yes it does drive you mad!

CloudsAndTrees · 01/06/2013 20:35

I lived very near Windsor when my dc were younger, and it was great! We weren't close enough for the traffic for Legoland to be a problem, but were close enough that we could get there in 15-20 minutes. We had annual passes and when the dc were below school age, we would go during the day, and when they got to school we could go for a couple of hours afterwards. Perfect!

I live 3 miles from Windsor and both my Mum and parents in law live there. It is a bloody mare popping over with the kids for a visit and has been particularly crap over the past few days.
Luckily I know other ways in and out of Windsor other than the motorway but we really have to plan the times of our travel when Legoland is open to try and avoid the ridiculous traffic.
I worry too if there were an emergency and my Mum needed an ambulance that it would get held up on the route to her house.
I have only been there once and it is very overpriced and they allow it to get very overcrowded.
So yes, living close by is a royal pain in the arse. I'm surprised the Queen allows it!

mumsneedwine · 01/06/2013 21:32

Just drive a different way. The very large park makes for easy detours. Oh and locals all go after school in term time so don't need to q. Moved on to Thorpe Park now but miss my Legoland days. Inset days are best times to go

blondefriend · 01/06/2013 21:43

I'm a teacher so can only go weekends or school hols. I always aim to get there by 9:30am and wait in the car park until it opens. Mad otherwise. But yes the traffic drives me potty. I would never live in Windsor as the relief road gets crowded every day even without Legoland, or Windsor Horse Show, or Windsor races, or the bloody Olympics.

Sianilaa · 01/06/2013 21:47

Yes it can be a pain! But locals with passes know that if you're planning to go during holidays/weekends, you get there by 9.30 am!

NarkyNamechanger · 01/06/2013 21:48

Yes but you learn to plan journeys better!

NarkyNamechanger · 01/06/2013 21:50

As someone else said not just Legoland.

Olympics, state visits, Windsor races, Ascot races, Windsor horse show, Eton college,

DiscoDonkey · 01/06/2013 21:51

Don't live in Windsor but have never found the traffic that bad to go there (we've a fair few times too!) must have got lucky

McNewPants2013 · 01/06/2013 21:52

Is it that bad to get to.

beccake · 01/06/2013 21:53

We just don't go during term time and know the routes to avoid, I get more annoyed by the tourists in town asking me where the castle is. You mean that huge thing behind you!

NarkyNamechanger · 01/06/2013 21:55

It's been really bad this week as they've reached capacity and had to turn people away. Not usually the case.

Plus living here you don't go on the m4 ( not into Windsor that time of the morning) and can easily avoid the relief road if needed.

McNewPants2013 · 01/06/2013 21:56

Sorry to hijack the thread but when is the best time to go.

NarkyNamechanger · 01/06/2013 21:58

Term time when it's pouring down!

directoroflegacy · 01/06/2013 22:15

Yes, it can be a nightmare!!
I'd be there by 09:00 or forget it!!

Sparklingbrook · 01/06/2013 22:18

I think anyone getting turned away had a lucky escape, can you imagine what it would be like full? Confused

Mintyy · 01/06/2013 22:23

God, I feel really sorry for the poor children who have been turned away! not to mention their long-suffering parents. Perhaps they should make it advance bookings only?

Karoleann · 01/06/2013 22:25

We went yesterday and it was hideous - we got there about 10, meant to meet friend there later, but they were turned away ..... I would never go again over half term.

We got a q-bot and ended up having to queue with that too.

NoRoomForMeInMyBed · 01/06/2013 22:32

Waves to all fellow Windsorians!:)

I find the Horse show the worst, turns my schoolrun into horse box hell! Shock

Locals with Annual passes stay well clear of LL in holiday times, and dont go anywhere near it around closing time. Traffic can be horrible. If you go, get there for 9.30 and stay until closing, then go up and have a coffee at the hill top cafe for an hour and the traffic will be almost gone.

It seems LL have become too popular and are attracting more people this year as it rarely closed in previous years. Good for them.

Best time to go? Midweek morning in term time. You will have the place toy yourself and its fab.

directoroflegacy · 01/06/2013 22:37

What about that annual AIG (or something) conference EVERY September in the FIRST week of term!!!!

beccake · 01/06/2013 22:47

Where is the conference? At LL? Shall have to watch out for that.
Now the horse boxes are gone, it will be the caravan show, then the dog show....... Least LL won't be busy then

mam29 · 01/06/2013 23:42

I went to Legoland this year and thought it was very disappointing. 45 min queue for Atlantis ride which was just crap. Short, boring tour through understocked dingy aquarium.

It was chucking it down with rain and even though that kept the queues relatively short the rides were so boring. That 'dinosaur safari' is just a complete waste of my life.

I can't imagine going to stay in the hotel there!

That said I have a couple of friends who have annual passes, go all the time and seem to love it, so perhaps I am missing something.
