to wish that the women of Britain would agree to a beauty amnesty?

Just for a week or so? Please?

This may be half term exhaustion kicking in, but I just want a break from depilation, make up, self tanner, putting decent outfits together, worrying about cellulite etc.

Now I know, in theory, I don't HAVE to do these things, but I feel that on the whole, women present themselves well and I would feel like a scruff if I stopped.

But if we all just agreed to lay off the grooming for a bit, I'd appreciate the chance to go au naturel and relax.

(This thread may be inspired by the fact I am about to spend a Friday night giving myself a pedicure thanks to the appearance of the sun and the desire to wear sandals tomorrow. I so can't be arsed.)

alienbanana · 31/05/2013 18:52

Ha,I don't do any of those things

alienbanana · 31/05/2013 18:53

Although I do cut my toenails occasionally :)

CloudsAndTrees · 31/05/2013 18:56

YABU. My friend would be out I a job if people stopped wanting to look nice.

Tee2072 · 31/05/2013 18:57

I don't do any of those things and look just fine, thanks.

MizK · 31/05/2013 18:58

Just for a week, clouds... That's all I ask!

alien toenail cutting would be permitted during the amnesty period...just...

I look like shit most of the time, and fail to care.

JumpingJackSprat · 31/05/2013 18:59

I dont do most of those things either and i dont think im a scruff. so my skin is mik bottle white well its alot of faff to fake tan for everyone elses benefit. i paint my nails every now and again and wear a bit of make up, and epilate. it doesnt take long to be honest. Maybe you ned to relax your standards instead of putting in all that work to be what someone else thinks is presentable

WilsonFrickett · 31/05/2013 18:59

Just stop then. It's easy. When you feel yourself reaching for the pedicure kit, grab a glass of wine instead.

Disclaimer: I do cut my toenails. And shave my pits. But seriously, that's what, 10 minutes twice a year?

BearFrills · 31/05/2013 19:03

I don't use self-tan because I don't want to look like an oompah loompah that's been dipped in gravy and I don't depilate. I don't worry about cellulite or stretchmarks even though I know I have them. I rarely exfoliate. I only moisturise when I remember to. I don't have a beauty regime or beauty secrets or tricks. I'm even lazy about shaving my legs and will only do them if I know they're going to be on show or I'm bored in the bath and about to get out of the water.

I wear make-up for work and going out - this amounts to tinted moisturiser, concealer and mascara. Sometimes eyeshadow if I can be bothered or if its a night out. I brush my hair. I brush my teeth. I have a shower or bath.

And that's it.

As for putting an outfit together? My thought on this extends to "does A go with B? Yes? Ok, wear it". Most of my clothes go with most of the rest of my clothes (trousers and tops for work, jeans or leggings and tops for home, two or three dresses that don't need anything to go with them).

Do people really antagonise for hours over these things?

Remotecontrolduck · 31/05/2013 19:03

I like putting make up on, I like buying it, I like experimenting with it.

Don't fake tan or worry about cellulite particularly though

Honestly, unless you like what you're doing, stop. No one cares if you've put make up on or are tanned, really they don't!

BoundandRebound · 31/05/2013 19:04

I shave my legs and underarms that's about it

So it is just you really

HoneyDragon · 31/05/2013 19:04

I've just been wolf whistled whilst pasty skinned, naked faced, naked nailed and fuzzy of body parts.

So it's clearly not that necessary Wink

Although the woman who thought it was for her was mildly horrified to discover it was meant for the scruffy fit behind her and did not hide her contempt well Grin

BearFrills · 31/05/2013 19:04

I do cut my toenails though. And my toe/fingernails are painted atm because it's been sunny.

HoneyDragon · 31/05/2013 19:05

Git. Not fit. Bloody autocorrect.

projectbabyweight · 31/05/2013 19:08

YABU. A year, now that I'm up for Grin

whatamidoinghere · 31/05/2013 19:08

No, yanbu op, I thought something similar last night actually - I am knackered from it all but feel that I've been this way for so long that there's a pressure/ expectation to continue.

I've lots of nice clothes but actually find myself in bed at night worrying about what to wear the next day Shock I am aware how ridiculous this sounds. Every (working) night, I shave, pluck eyebrows, paint nails, (every second night) deep condition and straighten or curl very long hair, put on fake tan etc

Every morning I'm up a half hour before everyone else to put on a full face of make up/ moisturise/ do hair

It's completely knackering...

Flobbadobs · 31/05/2013 19:08

It's not the women of the country that need to do it, it's the type of journalist that does the sidebar of shame type columns in newspapers and on websites, constantly commenting on what so and so is wearing today or looking 'rough' when they've just nipped out to the shops.
And while they're at it they can stop commenting on how big or small baby bumps are. One famous woman has a big bump, one has a small one. So what?

Yama · 31/05/2013 19:09

Hmmn.

I would agree if it were for ever rather than a week. Sounds like you are going to return to the whole shebang.

Oh and worrying/ counting/ thinking about every thing you eat whilst worrying about the cellulite etc

HighInterestRat · 31/05/2013 19:13

Don't do it if you don't want to woman!

I'd say a lot more than half of the people I know make minimal effort with their appearance, it's personal choice.

MrsRickyMartin · 31/05/2013 19:16

I can't believe people actually do all these things, I can't be arsed.

just you, I'm afraid. I shave the hairy bits and wash.

BTW there's no such thing as cellulite, it is beauty-babble for 'normal skin texture'.

Alisvolatpropiis · 31/05/2013 19:18

I don't worry about putting makeup on. I do it as part of my daily routine on weekdays. Takes 7 minutes (unless I poke myself in the eye with the mascara wand).

I think it's sad that women worry about fake tanning, waxing, wearing makeup. I don't fake tan because I like being pale. I wear makeup because I like it. Particularly for work I feel more "together". But I'll go out without it if I like too.

If it doesn't make you happy don't wear it/do it,but see no reason why all women should swear off it? Confused
