to wish that the women of Britain would agree to a beauty amnesty?

Just for a week or so? Please?

This may be half term exhaustion kicking in, but I just want a break from depilation, make up, self tanner, putting decent outfits together, worrying about cellulite etc.

Now I know, in theory, I don't HAVE to do these things, but I feel that on the whole, women present themselves well and I would feel like a scruff if I stopped.

But if we all just agreed to lay off the grooming for a bit, I'd appreciate the chance to go au naturel and relax.

(This thread may be inspired by the fact I am about to spend a Friday night giving myself a pedicure thanks to the appearance of the sun and the desire to wear sandals tomorrow. I so can't be arsed.)

YANBU. And a high heel amnesty would be welcome to a short-arse like me.

Laquitar · 31/05/2013 19:28

Do you suppose to paint nails every night?? Mine stays on for few days.

OP if you don't enjoy it don't do it. I don't do anything at the moment but i would like to.

Tbh i find Britain relaxed about 'grooming', there is more pressure in other countries. British women are not perceived as 'well groomed' in many other countries. (i don't mean this in a bad way).

mrsjay · 31/05/2013 19:29

I am a scruff I couldnt be arsed to do all THAT every day honestly op give yourself a break a bath and a hair wash and a possible shave here and there is sufficient Grin

MizK · 31/05/2013 19:32

whatami yes, same. And I am not some high maintenance glossy type, just look average so I bloody dread to think how much time it eats away from other people!

This will sound immature, but I know if I didn't bother, I'd feel jealous of other people who had obviously made an effort, haha at 31 I realise that stuff should be left at school, and yet....

honeydragon ha to the wolf whistle, obviously fit without the faff!

mrsdv the level of effort put in by some of the teenage girls I know is frankly daunting, and actually must take lots of money too, how do they do it?

I just wonder how people have the confidence (or natural good looks!) not to care? I just feel more in control somehow when various bits of me are painted and polished! Weird, I suppose.

I do wear make up sometimes and i quite like it but seriously all that grooming must be exhausting

YouStayClassySanDiego · 31/05/2013 19:33

I'm about to go upstairs and st tropez. I'm about as kkeen as a turkey at christmas but ill be pissed off tomorrow if i don't do it.

I have wine and will be off in a minute, dh just put django unchained on DVD. Might watch that yet.

IfNotNowThenWhen · 31/05/2013 19:35

Agree, there is no such thing as cellulite. Its just places on you body where there is a bit of extra fat under the skin. Its not a " special kind of fat" and almost all women have fat bits, so therefore it is not a problem- it is the way women are.

pigletmania · 31/05/2013 19:35

I agree, I look shit most of the time so don't bother really. I did have my eyebrows and tash waxed last month ad plan to keep it up as I do. Want to look like a yeti

IfNotNowThenWhen · 31/05/2013 19:39

I exfoliate in the shower, moisturise, and slap some tinted moisturizer on my face. Rarely shave anything or do anything to my hair, which is a mop, but I look ok. Or I am deluded....

Futterby · 31/05/2013 19:43

I totally can't be arsed doing all this rubbish. And although I'm only 14 weeks preggo, I'm finding it slightly more difficult to bend over so the leg-shaving might soon end up the window too!

lustybusty · 31/05/2013 19:43

I'm apparently "looks high maintenance, is low maintenance". I have a wardrobe of neutral bottoms and bright tops, so as long as bum and boobs are both covered, I am not going to make a terrible faux pas! Grin
I shave my legs if they're going to be visible, likewise my lady garden Wink. My underarms get done when I am in the shower and can open my eyes far enough to notice they're hairy.
I get ready in the morning in 30 minutes (no kids). Wake up, 10 mins in shower. Wrap hair in towel, body in dressing gown. Have ciggie and then grab clothes at random from wardrobe (remembering to cover boobs and bum!) 10 mins. Throw clothes on, twist hair into a clasp thing (requires choice, am I wearing blue? Wear blue clip. Am I wearing pink? Wear pink clip. Am I monochrome? Wear silver ) 5 mins. Eyeliner, mascara, lipstick, lipcote (if I'm going mad!), 5 mins. Out the door.

Wishiwasanheiress · 31/05/2013 19:50

Yabu. Don't get much chance but bright lippy n toes really cheers me up!

weisswusrt · 31/05/2013 19:53

Trouble with wearing make up all the time is that people get used to the made-up you, so when you turn up to work without it people notice. Its like when you see someone who wears glasses take them off for the first time, its odd! Thats why I make a point of wearing none, or minimal amounts unless its a wedding or huge night out!

ouryve · 31/05/2013 19:55

Apart from tackling the thicket that's my legs and armpits if I'm in danger of exposing them, and taking measures to prevent my eyebrows from mating, I don't do any of that. Ever.

lostinindia · 31/05/2013 19:55

Depi-what?????

Scruffey · 31/05/2013 20:01

Op I don't do any of those things. I was in soap, wear deo, clean teeth, wash hair and shave armpits. Shave legs when feel like it. That's it. You can give it all up.

Not sure why you need a pedicure. Just cut toenails as usual?

Why don't you just stop. Anyone ride enough to comment, well have a riposte ready for them!

mrsjay · 31/05/2013 20:05

leg-shaving might soon end up the window too!

give it another 4 weeks and it is all going to go to pot then you will panic before you have the baby and try and do the legs Grin

bettycocker · 31/05/2013 20:16

Mainly my beauty ha ha regime consists of not smoking, regular hardcore exercise and trying not to get too pissed at the weekend.

Other stuff I do includes using some faffy cellulite oil, body brushing and getting all of the hairs ripped out of my legs and nether regions.

This clearly doesn't cut the mustard, as I look like a raddled old bag at the age of 36. as for clothes, I work from home, so have stopped caring. I have no idea what people wear to work these days.

NotYoMomma · 31/05/2013 20:19

No way

pregnant, feeling frumpy and greasy and my skin has done.terrible things.

shall be partaking in all indulgent beautifying for 5 months yet

sweetsummerlove · 31/05/2013 20:32

I always wandered how some women seem so impeccably manicured and figured it was just one of those things- reading the responses here made me realise what an epic task it is for them and how much time it wastes when its not even enjoyable for them. Think id rather feel a bit inadequate than put myself through the hassle lol

Sallystyle · 31/05/2013 20:42

I love my beauty regimes.

I never look impeccably turned out though.

I should with what I do and spend, but I don't Hmm

UhOhChongo · 31/05/2013 21:24

YANBU

The effort that used to be saved for a night on the town has become an every day look for some.

CoalDustWoman · 31/05/2013 21:38

What do you think will happen if you just do what you want to do?

Best thing I ever did for this was do a thing where I wasn't able to do anything beauty-wise for 3 1/2 weeks. And even if I did, there was only my Dad, my brother and a friend I'd known for nearly 30 years there to witness. I washed my hair every 4 days (am a once a day grease-monkey, usually) and set to with the wet wipes once a day as water was at a premium. And am a pale-skinned, dark haired type, with Dennis Healey eyebrows.

What happened? Nothing. And I got chatted up when I got to where I was going.
