All the hype, the TV programmes, the excitement.

8 years old. Lined up in school in front of the TV.......

And a small bit of soggy wood appeared.

No masts. No skeletons. Not even looked like a flaming ship.

Gutted.

Yup I remember BBC Breakfast Time going crazy about thus and making myself late fir school watching a but of crappy wood being lifted out if the sea. They should have left it down there.

But ther is a skeleton, the ships dog is on display. Though I do agree, think it was on blue Peter, I was expecting sails and everything.

AtYourCervix · 30/05/2013 09:02

I think I just stuck to Newsround coverage.

John Craven sexing it up.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 30/05/2013 09:04

:) me too I think Blue Peter over egged things.

Iactuallydothinkso · 30/05/2013 09:08

My headmaster in primary school took a small group of us down to see it!

Imagine our disappointment!

Omnishambolic · 30/05/2013 09:10

I remember nearly two hundred of us sat in rows watching one tv on a stand at the other end of the room. All morning. All you could see was that yellow metal cradle they were bringing it up on. My most vivid memory is the detail of the brown cord carpet I was sat on because it was getting uncomfy and I spent more time looking at that and my Startrites and playing with my socks. I was B O R E D.

YoniOneWayOfLife · 30/05/2013 09:12

My overall memory of going to see it was that it was cold, wet and underwhelming.

It looked like it was going to be so brilliant on the telly as it came up .... was that it? The tug was more exciting.

MrsMelons · 30/05/2013 10:08

I was only about 2/3 when it was raised, my parents took me down there on the Sunday when it was supposed to be brought up but they couldn't do it till the following day. I have no recolection but they were gutted as were at work the following day.

I love the Mary Rose, just find it all very atmospheric and am very excited it reopens tomorrow as has been permanently restored after being closed for quite a long time - I am definitely going to take the children to see it soon.

TSSDNCOP · 30/05/2013 10:14

Blue Peter couldn't have over-egged it more if they tried. I also remember having this face Hmm. They'd made it seem like it'd come up with sails intact and covered in gold dubloons.

BaronessBomburst · 30/05/2013 10:15

Omnishambolic My memory is of the bright yellow crane and the parquet flooring of the school hall. I was bored and my bum was numb. Grin

FreudiansSlipper · 30/05/2013 10:33

Yes I remember being most disappointed no skeletons or treasure chests coud be seen. We watched it school the teachers pretended to be excited but I could feel there disappointment too

HumphreyCobbler · 30/05/2013 10:34

I remember the teacher trying hard to drum up some enthusiam.

Panzee · 30/05/2013 10:36

Mary Rose sat on a pin.

AtYourCervix · 30/05/2013 10:46

Fuzzysnout · 30/05/2013 11:02

I went there on a school trip too. I was so excited after all the Blue Peter hype. Was gutted to see a pile of wet wood - is that it?! huge disappointment Sad

Latara · 30/05/2013 12:03

I was about 4 i think, i expected to see a proper ship not some soggy old wood! (I'm sure it was very exciting for the experts though.)

The words 'John Craven' and 'sexing it up' do not belong in the same sentence, surely. Smile

JennySense · 30/05/2013 12:23

Oooh! I loved this - IIRC it was even broadcast before "real" breakfast TV!

NorthernLurker · 30/05/2013 12:24

I agree - I found the yellow crane thing much more interesting. Frankly it looked better at the bottom of the sea.

musicposy · 30/05/2013 12:24

I felt the same. Was a teen at the time, dragged to see it by school. And - it's a piece of wet wood! I remember thinking "big deal" in a very teenagerish way!

GrendelsMum · 30/05/2013 12:54

Oh, I was hugely excited by it, even with it being basically a load of wet wood (we did a special family trip to see it, too). It was great!
