To hate football and the amount of TV coverage it gets...

Just switched on to ITV and guess what - some European cup final with two German teams!! I really dislike football and wonder whether anyone really gives a shit cares about a game like this in the UK?
Why does football coverage get preference over everything else?
I'll be on MN tonight.

I hate it too - mind-numbingly dull mysogynistic crap.

Good job we've got Sky!!

You are perfectly entitled to hate whatever you want.

However, if you don't have Sky Sports, then there's relatively little football on the TV during normal waking hours, unlike the kind of stuff I can't stand - Pop Idol / I'm a Celebrity / Big Brother / TOWIE / Made in Chelsea / X-Factor / Dancing on Ice / etc.,etc.etc.
To watch football other than when there's a World Cup, you have to stay up very late on a Saturday night.

McNewPants2013 · 25/05/2013 19:08

I am so glad DH doesn't like any sport :) hate football with a passion

AllegraLilac · 25/05/2013 19:09

I expect people feel the same about reality tv, or the news. You don't have to watch it, or like it, but that does not mean it doesn't deserve the airtime.

Pretty much everything that is on tv deserves the airtime, as channels wouldn't fund it if no one was watching.

gordyslovesheep · 25/05/2013 19:09

one channel out of how many?

it get's preference because it draws a big audience and, in ITV and Sky's case, massive advertising revenue and for the BBC - resale revenue

It's 1 night - Bloody Tennis takes up 2 channels all day for 2 bloody weeks every summer !

ShadowStorm · 25/05/2013 19:10

It's like that with most sporting events (for popular sports at any rate), not just football.

But I don't usually mind so much now that we've got FreeSat and lots of extra channels to surf through.

Myliferocks · 25/05/2013 19:11

I'd love to see more football on the main tv channels and less soaps and reality tv shows.

Bowlersarm · 25/05/2013 19:11

I hate reality shows. Every flipping Saturday night, there they are, on every channel. Football makes a refreshing change.

Dontbugmemalone · 25/05/2013 19:11

YANBU. I bloody hate sport on TV, especially football. What's the point of watching 22 people kicking a ball?

Stiefeliblue · 25/05/2013 19:14

don't forget the bloody motorracing and the wretched tennis on all the time

Yanbu to hate football, that's your choice

But possibly being a teensy bu re the airtime??

I hate soaps, don't watch one yet the are on all 5 mainstream channels every single day surely??

But I like football.

There's not that much football on tv other than sky, and you will be glad to hear there will be no more til August after tonight Grin

gordyslovesheep · 25/05/2013 19:15

What's the point of watching 22 people kicking a ball? not a lot if you don't LIKE football - that would be stupid Grin

C4 are showing the worst film ever made for 3.5 hours - maybe that'll appeal Grin

claig · 25/05/2013 19:15

"It's 1 night - Bloody Tennis takes up 2 channels all day for 2 bloody weeks every summer !"

And so it bloody well should! Grin

Gingefringe · 25/05/2013 19:15

There's been a European game on ITV mid-week nearly every week (sometimes twice weekly) for the past few weeks. What I object to is that any programme that's normally on during that time has to be cancelled or rescheduled - just gives the impression that football is far more important than anything else.

'just gives the impression that football is far more important than anything else.'

It gets bigger audiences and they make more from advertising

Myliferocks · 25/05/2013 19:18

Soaps and reality tv shows are on every night of the week for the whole year.
Sporting events are on occasionally in comparison.

Wereonourway · 25/05/2013 19:19

But surely you can see TV companies have to cater for everyone??

Games are played and shown live, hence the need to change schedules to fit around them.

You really really hate football don't you?

ShadowStorm · 25/05/2013 19:19

just gives the impression that football is far more important than anything else

Don't forget to include tennis in the above statement. And the Grand Prix. And rugby. And the Olympics. And snooker. And cricket. etc, etc...

Alisvolatpropiis · 25/05/2013 19:19

I'd rather football be one once a week than the inane shit that is the soaps/x factor/britains got talent in all honesty.

Hands off the tennis, it's two weeks and even the Five live can't commentate on a match without constant interruptions for Fucking, Cunting, Tribal hatred inducing, deadly boring foot ball.

Ragwort · 25/05/2013 19:23

Why turn it on then, there are 1001 other things you could be doing with your time Hmm - I don't like about 95% of what is on TV, so what, I don't have to watch it. Live and let live Smile.

Who wants to watch tv in this lovely weather anyway Confused?

Sirzy · 25/05/2013 19:24

I dont like football so I'm not watching it!

I'm watching the rugby instead.
