AIBU?
To think my child will not get bullied for being called.......

Rupert
36wks pg with baby no1, don't know the sex of the baby yet, however MIL, DM and various friends laughed when I suggest "Rupert James" was on our list for boys names, apparently if I call my son this he will be forever teased at school and be called "Rupert bear" expected to wear yellow trousers etc . DH just shrugged about this.
So AIBU to tell them to mind there own and use this name anyway (if I have a son) or am I setting my child up for a life of torment?
Other names we like:
Frederick James (Freddie)
Archibald George (Archie)
Cassius Paul
Lucius George
Girls:
Penelope Rose
Delilah Jane
Clara Jane
Evangeline Jane

Oh sod them, apparently my son is cursed by having the initials BJ. it won't matter and they should stop worrying about bullying and start thinking about raising children with enough self-esteem to not give a shit what a few idiot bullies who have been badly raised think.

I've known a few Ruperts and they don't have any problems. Maybe it depends where you live with regard to inverted snobbery.
I grew up in a posh area and never knew anyone who was bullied because of their name. There was a girl called Kameljit tho, and people (including herself and teachers) referred to her as Camel Shit.
My DS has a 'posh' name but apart from on MN no one has batted an eyelid.

Hi Well firstly congratulations. Rupert wouldn't be one of my names but that's not of my business. However I have never known anyone to be teased about their given name. I mean there's always unwritten rules I mean you wouldn't name a boy "Katie" for example. If you like Rupert then go for it. It's certainly different and interesting. The best name for the boy I would say is Archie though and Clara is nice for a girl. xx

Name calling perhaps, but not bullying, but then with children, there is always something, ginget, tall, short, fat, thin, clever, thick, too angry, bad looser, spoil sport, pain in the arse, no fun - so the nugget to take from this is no matter what some kids will be mean and your children must learn how to deal with it.
I was very tall at school and had the surname Lewis, so was 'Lankey Lewis' or Stork SB, like the margerine.
So call your child what you want.

If thats the name you both love then go with it. Dont let anyone else's opinion affect it.
Were due next week and havent told anyone the name because i was scared someone might put me off the name i love.
I dated a rupert once. Never thought anything of it. As for the bullying.. will kiddies born in 2013 even know about rupert the bear? Is it still around?
It sounds gorgeous. Go with what you want!
