Eurovision 2013 - OK here we go again

Removing all the supposedly 'homophobic' comments made earlier - I certainly am not homophobic, but that can remain for another context, though I believe I did say that my gay friends find these acts offensive to them as gays -

The whole point was to raise the issue of the obscenity of some Eurovision acts and why we are all OK about naked men writhing about in front of a man wearing a crucifix! This was always meant to be a family show and I cannot bring myself to let my children see this.

We are becoming an over-sexualised society and I think that's awful and especially insulting to Christians when combined with crucifix-wearing - yes, surprise! - I am a Christian! [Now I can watch as mumsnet turns this thread into an anti-Christian one and censors me for being completely intolerant of anything!]

Am I really the only one? I don't believe I am!

It helps me to never be offended by anything showing on TV.

The (Dracula-inspired) imagery was very similar to what you might have seen if you had gone to the opera to see a performance of any piece featuring Orpheus or similar topics. In fact, the whole of his number was very operatic in its general styling.

Ballet shows often also include similar numbers.

I took my children to see a play by Marlowe at the Elizabethan Rose Theatre. It featured the god Jupiter and his side-kick Ganymede. Who got up to a good deal more than the Eurovision singers.

I noticed on the other thread that you were also offended by the singer's technique: other posters pointed out that the countertenor is a traditional element in Christian church music.

Basically, to those of us who are used to more traditional Christian culture it didn't seem that shocking. Sorry if that doesn't help you.

You are right it is wrong to expose children to the symbols of organised religion.

Men in boxers, well I hope you don't take your children swimming, they may see men wearing less than the dancers on Eurovision.

When was it ever a children's show? It starts at 8pm and doesn't finish until midnight.

I LOVE Eurovision and I'm not remotely offended at anything Eurovision-y, apart from some of the truly awful singing of course Grin

Just making a general point about TVs having off switches, you know, for those of an easily offended nature.

OK - I give up. mumsnet is obviously full of people who are in the 'if you can't accept society as it is, then p off' vocal and [actually offensive to me as a Christian who would rather we were more restrained than prepared to accept that anything goes, but hey - that's OK] minority. Trouble is, some of us just don't like or accept that society is progressing in the right direction, but we aren't allowed to say so.

have you considered that the singer may have strong beliefs and was proudly wearing his cross during performance to honour god? just like others who wear crucifixes (crucifi?) to work?

And the dancers were performing very technical ballet/contemporary choreography. Dancers often wear less/tight clothing to show the line & movement of the body. If you saw something sexual in this maybe you should question why this is the place your mind went to? Don't be ashamed if you were a bit turned on OP, they were all strapping lads, perfectly natural! Wink

I didn't see anything sexual in that performance, just a good performance from a talented singer and talented dancers.
