not understand why women can't spell anymore

To be fair I haven't really noticed this til I became pregnant and started using mumsnet/fb/text message more but when did half of women completely lose the ability to spell words correctly. I mean sometimes I have no idea what the heck is going on. I mean is their keyboard broke or are they getting charged by the letter?

Example someone please translate this for me: "js rushed home to lie don its buggin me im not abin much luck in this pregnancy at all breezed throu my others reali it mst b age"

or this " i can hardly see at miih" what the heck is a miih?

I take it this is not a young lady thing because this woman is in her 40s. My own mother constantly struggles with threw/through or you're/your. Did I miss some sort of revolution in language some time ago?

I have a relative who posts entirely in text speak, in a Scottish accent. It might as well be Russian, I don't understand a word of it.

I think it's a combination of predictive text, texting, smart phones and people giving up the concept of proof reading before hitting reply/send. The only thing that really bothers me is when I can't see how the weirdly typed word is shorter or easier to type? I don't get it?

RooneyMara · 16/05/2013 11:17

No words, really

TheVermiciousKnid · 16/05/2013 11:17

Oh dear. I must get my husband to rewrite the 2000+ words I've written since yesterday. :(

Ah well. Spelling ability linked to Y chromosome. Who knew.

ImTooHecsyForYourParty · 16/05/2013 11:18

So that's where the internal dictionary is kept. In the cock. Damnit.

Binkyridesagain · 16/05/2013 11:19

Would wearing a strap on dildo improve our spelling?

OnTheNingNangNong · 16/05/2013 11:20

You obviously missed the spelling/punctuation/grammar lessons too OP.

Good day to you.

wigglesrock · 16/05/2013 11:20

Tee Smile. My house must be a spelling blackhole - me, 3 daughters, thank God for my husband we wouldn't get a thing done otherwise.

neunundneunzigluftballons · 16/05/2013 11:20

We are not really designed to communicate via writing. It is a human construct for language and so is not innate. Many, many seriously intelligent people struggle with reading and writing. Dyslexia is the most common learning difficulty and it is estimated in certain quarters that 10% of the population may suffer from it.

Also I spend my time trying to communicate correctly and articulately in the workplace as part of my job, MN, facebook and the rest are for fun so correct spelling and grammar are not exactly a must. That said there have been many posts which I have found really difficult to read but generally I just stop and move to another one and save my brain the addling. YABVU.

(That's just correcting the grammar as best I could. Don't get me started on the lack of thought process behind the post.)

To be fair I hadn't really noticed this until I became pregnant and started using mumsnet/fb/text messages more but when Idid, I noticed that half of thewomen with whom I come into contact have completely lost the ability to spell words correctly.

I mean sometimes I have no idea what the heck is going on. I wonder whether their keyboard is perhaps broken or whether they are getting charged by the letter.

For example could someone please translate this for me:

"js rushed home to lie don its buggin me im not abin much luck in this pregnancy at all breezed throu my others reali it mst b age" ?

Or this: " i can hardly see at miih" ?

What the heck is a miih?

I take it this is not an issue exclusive to young ladies because this woman is in her 40s.
My own mother constantly struggles with the words 'threw' and 'through' and 'your' and 'you're'*.

Did I miss some sort of revolution in language some time ago? Hmm

I just did this for fun btw, as I am very bored.

RooneyMara · 16/05/2013 11:26

Oh x posts! Sorry. Smile

LoveItLongTime · 16/05/2013 11:26

hellsbells76 · 16/05/2013 11:27

A more thorough job than I could be arsed to do! I didn't even want to go there with the syntax Grin.

mrsminiverscharlady · 16/05/2013 11:27

I blame feminism personally...

StitchAteMySleep · 16/05/2013 11:28

Anymore, see I did it.

Our hands are so covered in calluses from all the women's work we do, that we can't be expected to spell Hmm

RooneyMara · 16/05/2013 11:29

RooneyMara · 16/05/2013 11:29

Gosh, I better hand back the £1000 I will earn this week for my sparkling copy and perfect grammar.

I work virtually and no-one has realised I has the boobies! Phew!!

Flobbadobs · 16/05/2013 11:36

I am in fact a 6ft 6" bloke with a willy down to my knees. Therefore I spell and punctuate perfectly.
not really

Wishiwasanheiress · 16/05/2013 11:40

My nan won us the vote so I could choose when and if I want to spell.

Language evolves. Get. Over. It.

MammaTJ · 16/05/2013 11:40

Ooo, Flobbadobs, can we meet up? not really

Chromolithograph · 16/05/2013 11:41

Booyhoo · 16/05/2013 11:44

"I mean is their keyboard broke "

gordyslovesheep · 16/05/2013 11:52
