to think Jeremy Vine is a horrible person

and his production team aren't up to much either.

Radio show chat today "should Tia Sharp's family shoulder some of the blame for her death?" (or words to that effect).

Err... no. I think that the man who abused and killed her is the one who should "shoulder the blame".

What kind of mind tries to heap more misery on a horrifically bereaved family?

God I hate JV, but I still listen pretty religiously. My favourite thing is when it's a really slow news day so the topic is "Are you fed up of winter yet?" and he tries to make it really controversial. (True topic from last month by the way.)

But I don't think he believes half the things he says. He is clearly smart and plays devil's advocate no matter what the topic.

His job isn't to share what he thinks. His job is to help others to make their point, whether that be by encouraging them in what they are saying or playing devil's advocate.

He is an excellent journalist and has to bring relevant and topical discussions to the show, which sometimes may be controversial.

The TS discussion is very valid. She was 12 years old. She should have been protected by those around her. It is questionable whether those responsible for her did their best to protect her, given the history of her killer and the complicated relationship history within the family.

I don"t like the Jeremy vine show and always switch off when it comes on. It sounds harsh to ask if the family should shoulder some of the blame, but I did wonder why the granny was telling her story in the Daily Mirror.

need to say Radio 5's Phil Williams is absolutely superb. he strikes just the right tone. Wish other. broadcasters would take note.

I listen to his show most days and don't find him too annoying and I don't think it is fair to compare him to the DM. But then, the thought that Tia Sharp's family did have some responsibility for what tragically happened to her did enter my head for a fleeting second also so maybe I am as bad.

Not that i want to really engage with the "debate" from yesterday but despite Tia's murderer having a shady past there were nothing in that history to suggest that this crime could have been predicted. Police and academics have been clear about that. He may not have been a great choice to be around a child but blaming the family is horrible and nonsensical.

Just to be clear JV was not simply saying "how can we prevent these crimes?" or "shouldn't offenders be kept away from children". he was suggesting the family were actually to blame. A big difference.

They should replace him with Vanessa Feltz. I heard her covering one day and (to my surprise) she came across as warm and intelligent.

They don't have any female presenters in the big daytime slots.

He wasn't suggesting that, ifindoubt. He was asking the question.

The fact is that a 12 year old girl was regularly staying with a man who had 30 convictions, many serious. He had also had a relationship with not only her Grandmother, but her mother.

He also made it very clear that the question was a general one (ie. whose job was it to protect her) rather than family blaming.

If Vanessa Feltz takes over I'd stop listening in a heartbeat. A less sincere person you rarely find.
