to think Jeremy Vine is a horrible person

and his production team aren't up to much either.

Radio show chat today "should Tia Sharp's family shoulder some of the blame for her death?" (or words to that effect).

Err... no. I think that the man who abused and killed her is the one who should "shoulder the blame".

What kind of mind tries to heap more misery on a horrifically bereaved family?

He is a knob.

UnChartered · 15/05/2013 10:22

i hate his programme, it brings out all the bigots and twats who phone in ranting about something they've poached from the bowels of the DM

AnneEyhtMeyer · 15/05/2013 10:27

Bring back Jimmy Young.

Librarina · 15/05/2013 10:27

I drive a lot for work and usually have Radio 2 on in the car, I have to switch to Classic FM if he's on. And I can't stand classical music.

BumpingFuglies · 15/05/2013 11:06

I think he is asking a valid question actually. But the timing is shit, I agree.

NoWayPedro · 15/05/2013 11:21

Never read the DM so no idea about that but I think you are being a bit (only a bit) unreasonable.

From what I listened to yesterday he made the point several times that it was not the fault of the family and instead was a discussion around what 'vetting' (bad choice of word but ykwim) should be done letting a new person into your home life and family.

Take another scenario:

There is a thread on here atm about someone providing childcare at a wedding. A guest wants the check the credentials of the childcare (for 1.5 hrs) and some have said that's not BU - fair enough. Yet because someone is essentially asking the same question; in fact its even more pertinent if they become part of the family; you think that's BU?

Bad timing I agree but a valid discussion nonetheless.

SconeInSixtySeconds · 15/05/2013 11:28

I am afraid that Jeremy Vine is the cue for me to turn off Radio 2. Which is a shame because I love Ken Bruce, but Slimey Viney just makes me want to hurl.

In fact I hate him more than Steve Wright. Shock

CocacolaMum · 15/05/2013 11:36

I quite like Jv's show.. sometimes he does go a bit "nice but dim" but generally its ok to listen to while I work < prepares to be burnt at the stake >

DrHolmes · 15/05/2013 12:03

I cannot stand this guy and if i ever hear any of his debates it always makes my blood boil.

Bumpotato · 15/05/2013 12:17

I was on his show a couple of weeks ago and found him to be lovely.

I wasn't very aware of him before then thought he and Jeremy Kyle were the same person

Since being on the show, I'm amazed at the number of people who have told me they were listening. He must be popular.

CocacolaMum · 15/05/2013 12:19

oooo would love to know what you were on it for bumpotato

Sugarice · 15/05/2013 12:21

I don't mind his debating style but his sometimes over the top breezy style and intakes of breath through his teeth piss me off.

Bumpotato · 15/05/2013 12:23

I would say but it would out me.

I think the question is in bad taste certainly, especially so soon after.

But..after reading ExcuseTypos post I nearly spat out my tea, did the parents know he was a seriously violent criminal? a fucking machete?

I'm not familiar with the case was he a family member/friend.

RiffyWammal · 15/05/2013 13:09

I don't listen to JV and have no opinion on him, apart from that he's not a patch on Terry Wogan on Points of View. And I usually detest victim blaming and DM attitudes. But I think it's a fair question to ask, if it only makes other families think more seriously about who they allow to have unrestricted access to their vulnerable children.

OBVIOUSLY the blame lies with Tia's killer. But she had a chaotic life because of her family's choices and this enabled what happened. FFS he took the bathroom door off at the GM's house (so he could spy on Tia) and smoked weed around her grandchildren although she asked him not to and she still trusted him to be left with her overnight? Sad

MrsLyman · 15/05/2013 14:24

The odious Jeremy Vine as I call him. Kiss is right he's a cunt.

He is also not very good at his job, you get the same level of incredulity whether he's talking about gang rape or ice cream's getting smaller. He seems to think a story will only be interesting to listeners if he can try and provoke outrage. Er no sometimes I just like finding out about stuff whilst I listen to the radio, I don't need everything presented to me as a scandal.

I have frequent daydreams about a mysterious black hole opening up at Radio 2 headquarters on a weekday at 2pm during the JV/ Steve Wright handover.

but KH is on every fucking thing, is she on the BBC payroll?

Absolutelylost · 15/05/2013 14:29

My neighbour is a close family friend of his and he and his family come to stay quite regularly. I don't listen to his show, it's not really my thing but he seems a perfectly pleasant family man from what I have seen of him.

BreconBeBuggered · 15/05/2013 14:41

Are you all listening to the same stuff as me? To my ears, it sounds as if he's doing the job asked of him, trying to respond in a neutral way to even the most obnoxious viewpoint. Even when it's put forward by Ktie Hpkins. He can't be the DM in human form, because he likes the same kind of music as I do, and the DM brings me out in a rash.

AgentProvocateur · 15/05/2013 14:42

I'm obviously in the minority, because I quite like him. And I'm a huge fan of Nicky Campbell - he really appeals to my sense of humour. And to put myself in an even smaller minority, I think it's a fair and valid (although perhaps ill-timed) question to ask.

Sugarice · 15/05/2013 15:04

I too love Nicky Campbell, particularly on his Sunday morning bbc tv show.

littlemissnormal · 15/05/2013 15:35

I listen to his show when I can and like it. The only thing that annoys me is when he has the female doctor on who has the driest mouth and I end up shouting "have a bloody drink" at the radio.

NoWayPedro · 15/05/2013 15:48

bigblock yes, he had previous and quite a few at that; we're not talking overdue parking tickets either.

The mother is alleged to have said that she doesn't judge (ie. knew about his past or some of it at least). He went out with the mother briefly before the grandmother.

Just like to iterate I DO NOT think the blame lies with anyone other than that vile Hazell man. It was an interesting discussion about vulnerable families.
