So today at work I came across a boy called Buster!

I've only ever heard it as a name for dogs so now I'm wondering whether I've missed something.

It wasn't said once like in a jokey way. The boy was repeatedly referred to as Buster.

I would assume it's just a bit name like Sweetheart, Mister, Trouble etc.

miffybun73 · 12/05/2013 16:43

For bit name, read pet name.

I rather like it - at least it's different and not shouting to the world about the intellectual capacity or lack of it of the parents.

MrsHuxtable · 12/05/2013 16:47

I would have thought it was a nickname, if she hadn't said it to me about him at one point as well. But I guess different people do different things.

I know a Buster (full name) and his younger brother is called Sonny.

There was a character in the Beano called Buster

There was a child in the newspaper the other day called Fields. I had to re-read it several times to ensure I hadn't misread it Grin I agree, Buster is rather ridiculous for a child.

I totally disagree, and I KNOW this makes me sound like an awful judgey pants, but I think it makes the parents sound ignorant. Like they don't realise it is not a real name, it's a pet or nickname.

Like Peter Andre and Jordan calling their son Junior. Junior is not a name!

(Yes I know, any name is a 'name', but that doesn't mean I have to like it! Grin)

SilvercloudRainbow · 12/05/2013 17:11

Agreed JackieTheFart (love your username by the way). "Junior" is a bloody awful name.

JackieTheFart · 12/05/2013 17:14

I'm glad you agree Silver I'm preparing for a flaming! Grin

Thanks as well - I shamelessly nicked it from a thread about childhood toys and their nicknames. It suits me to a tee Grin

BusterKeaton · 12/05/2013 17:16

YABVVU and also very judgey pants!

Moreover, DS1 is named Buster Junior Keaton.

Pigsmummy · 12/05/2013 17:17

Does this mean that I can call my next child "Flash"? Yey!

SilvercloudRainbow · 12/05/2013 17:20

"Moreover, DS1 is named Buster Junior Keaton." I would have preferred "Buster Keaton JUNIOR" lol. Buster Keaton supposedly got his name when he fell down the stairs and Harry Houdini was visiting the house and said "that was a real buster your baby took".

TigOldBitties · 12/05/2013 17:22

I went to school with a Buster in the seventies/eighties, he was gorgeous!

Was his full name not a nickname, can't see anything wrong with it.

rumbelina · 12/05/2013 17:22

I know a lovely little Buster. I've never really thought about it as unusual but I have spent a LOT of time watching Buster Keaton over the years.

JackieTheFart · 12/05/2013 17:32

Sorry Buster Grin

Please accept my heartfelt apologies still a daft name

BusterKeaton · 12/05/2013 17:35

No hard feelings Jackie! I was going to NC but then couldn't be bothered!

TheseFoolishThings · 12/05/2013 17:37

Well you have a point Jackie and it's an entirely reasonable one. Can't say fairer than that! Smile

valiumredhead · 12/05/2013 17:46
