WillYouDoTheFandango · 03/05/2013 22:00

Babybarrister those coats are adorable.

WishIdbeenatigermum · 03/05/2013 22:32

bb ex HH parent here. I went to the induction before DD1 started very overawed at what we were letting ourselves in for. I didn't know whether to be reassured or panicked when we were told to mark the jackets in black marker pen on the lining. Unless my sil has access to your MIL's house and is prepared to swoop there as your flying home from 2 years overseas the day before term started I think you're safe. the crazy cow is still threatening to send dcousin to the same senior school as ds Hmm

bubblesinthesky · 03/05/2013 22:39

I love those coats babybarrister and so would DD.

I suppose getting myself to one of their second hand uniform sales if they have them just to pick up a coat would be a bit weird?

www.hallfieldschool.co.uk/pre-prep Here's a better picture of those lovely coats. They flare beautifully at the bottom.

I love the hat one of the girls is wearing with it.

Wish i could send dd there but it would be a long long school run and bankrupt us

bubblesinthesky · 03/05/2013 22:42

Sorry wrong link www.gardenhouseschool.co.uk/kindness_code.html here

CecilyP · 04/05/2013 08:15

You could just buy the coat with the money you will save from not paying the school fees?

Meerkatwhiskers · 04/05/2013 11:33

Well I stand corrected about Christ's hospital lol. Never knew that. I'm just a commoner who went to state school (actually not entirely true as I went to a Catholic school which was church and state funded and a boring navy blue uniform lol)

float62 · 04/05/2013 13:18

Further to Christ's Hospital, recently the kids had a vote on if they wanted to keep or change their uniform and the overwhelming response was to keep it. I've no ties with the school just remember reading about this in the local paper.

BeeMom · 05/05/2013 03:53

I know I am late on this, but I sorely wish I could find photos from my uniform in the '70s. 2 tone brown/mustard gingham pinafores, same hideous fabric for the boys' trousers. Shit Brown blazers and off-white blouses made for a stunning and oh-so-flattering pile of dog leavings appearance...

I still shudder to think of it.

sashh · 05/05/2013 06:32

Are those Tudor ones the actual everyday uniform ?!?

I could be wrong but I think they have to wear them even when not at school.

cuillereasoupe · 05/05/2013 07:10

Erm, no, we were allowed to wear our own clothes during the holidays!

cuillereasoupe · 05/05/2013 07:15

Oh and CH definitely isn't for posh kids! The idea is to take kids with academic / musical potential from difficult backgrounds (family breakdown, abuse, parents with mental / pysical illness) and give them a good education away from their challenging family environment - very similar to what the proposed Lambeth school in Sussex is intending to do.

chrome100 · 05/05/2013 07:18

We used to wear blue, yellow and white striped SHIRTS. They were truly hideous.

I don't think their backgrounds have to be all that difficult. A friend of mine went free of charge because his widowed mother was on a low income - she was a perfectly respectable widow providing a good home for her children. My friend wasn't particularly happy there and even more annoyed at having been sent when his brother, who had failed the CH entrance exam, did better than him at the local grammar school.

cuillereasoupe · 05/05/2013 07:43

Yes, there are a lot of people from what I suppose you could call genteel backgrounds living in reduced circumstances too.

seeker · 05/05/2013 07:57

Nope. You're my only stalker. You and your many alter egos.

I would answer your question. But you have some of your facts wrong, despite your detailed dossier of my life. And I know from past experience that you will stick to your inaccurate interpretation, regardless. So there is no point.

So. Fair enough, MTS. You know best.

seeker · 05/05/2013 07:57

Oops, wrong thread, sorry.

DoTheStrand · 05/05/2013 08:07

My mum's family were definitely posh Grin - just not rich (and with a large family to educate).

FruOla · 05/05/2013 08:33

I can't link to my (1970s) uniform either. Most of it was pretty normal - apart from the blazer which was a sort-of royal blue/dull turquoise colour with white stripes of different widths. (Actually, I think there was a matching 'Juliet Cap' at one point - but I only remember wearing a boater.)

We stood out like a sore thumb, until the 'cool guy' in our area (he must have been late teens/early 20s) bought a second hand one and wore it all the time ... suddenly the blazers didn't seem so bad Grin

FruOla · 05/05/2013 09:20

Oh, and I should have said - it was a girl's only school, so the sight of a handsome young man in one of our blazers was somewhat unusual!
