AIBU?

It is absolutely fine to leave dog shit behind if you are walking in country side.

No it's fucking not Angry

There are a bajillion reasons why you should not. All bloody good ones, particularly if its farm land.

So stop you filthy fuckers. Do not tell me its ok. Because its not.

Work on the simple assumption that if you are there, other people probably will be so bag it and take it with you.

Others, not there's.

And Naysa, you've tried to get to it.

One of the places I walk my dog is private land with public footpaths (or so I guess...) and my dad's on conversational terms with the guy who manages the place - the groundskeeper? forest caretaker? There's a word for it and I can't think of it!

Anyway - there are no poo bins throughout, and the aforementioned groundsman has said not to worry about it any further than the stick'n'flick. So long as the poo's off the path it's ok.

In a village common, or path around a farmer's field, however, I would always bag and bin.

What if they go in the sea?

Or in the middle of a bog?

Bleaurgh.

I used to work mowing and strimming footpaths, employed by the parish councils so that the ramblers don't get all cross about vegetation on public footpaths.

Unfortunately it just encouraged the dog boggers, the ones who now have a nice cut path on which to dump and run.

Then I'd go back later in the year to cut it and get fucking covered in shite.

Disgusting. But a very effective aversion therapy for liking dogs. I used to love them and really wanted one. Now I just feel nauseous when I see a dog. And i left that job 10 years ago.

Obviously you carry a swimming costume and wellies with you at all times on dog walks.

I'm with Naysa. My Dog is off the lead most of the time and craps in the middle of a thicket of brambles or down a steep bank to the railway line where I cannot get to it, and I doubt anyone else could.

Having had lots of dog shit incidents with DD when she was little, I would never dream of leaving a crap where it was accessible to anyone.

But the dog shit in bags left lying around leave me outraged. Why go to all that trouble and then leave it behind?

Livestock are wormed regularly, and I have yet to come across any herbivore who will eat shit in any form, and I've never found shit in any hay I've ever fed. Dog shit is foul and should be picked up if there is the chance it could be trodden on, but this hysteria about livestock eating it is ridiculous.

Do people really think that livestock [and possibly their own guinea pigs/bunnies] like eating hay befouled by dog shit?

NT DO advise that:

"Never leave poo where people walk, play or picnic. We ask that if your dog fouls, particularly in car parks and on paths, you pick up and remove the mess. Flick it into rough grass or woodland, or take it away with you and dispose of it at home. There may be dedicated bins to put it in at heavily used sites."

what's worse is the lazy cunts who do actually bag up the shit - but then hang it in streets...maybe they think the fucking fairy's will move it?

AuntieStella · 29/04/2013 15:00

With bodies like NT recommending stick and flick, this is a losing battle.

Agreed Stella.

Callisto, we went to Wales a few years ago and there were signs up saying to remove dog shit as livestock were not all wormed?

A old bag woman down the road from us used to bring her dog inside our front garden (paved) so her dog could poo there. Every morning. Once we had seen her actually doing it, quite deliberately, dh waited by the front door while I watched from the window, and signalled him. He rushed out with a plastic bag and told her to clear it up. She was furious, swore at him and all sorts. She did a half hearted job of picking it up and has been spitting nails at us ever since (7 years). Grin

Unsurprisingly, I hate people who leave dog poo lying around.

Genuine question. I've never had a dog.

Can you keep the dog on the lead til it's had its crap and then let it off for a leg stretch?

Report
UnChartered · 29/04/2013 16:06

LeChat

yes it is, our dog used to do that, but it was almost 40 years ago, maybe dogs have changed since then Grin

Yes you could, but our dog likes to crap in private so hangs on to it until he can run into the bushes

Report
Naysa · 29/04/2013 16:35

LeChat our's won't go if he's on the lead. He has to do the poo dance where he runs round like a mad bastard and then jumps into a bush Angry

The poo spin

Report
ExcuseTypos · 29/04/2013 16:48

We live in the country and my dog usually shits in the same place. It's down a footpath which has hedgerow growing on either side. It's very shady and the floor dry with lots of leaves on it.

My dog does her business and as I always have wellies on, I do move it under the hedge. As its dry earth, none of it sticks to the path. There is NO sign of shit. My own dc walked down the footpath to school so I certainly wouldn't want them standing in shit.

So I think in some circumstances you can move it under a hedge. The people who leave it in the middle of the path, want shooting IMO.

If my dog shits somewhere else, I have bags which I use.

Report
SoupDragon · 29/04/2013 17:30

if you lazy people cannot/will not pick up after your dog, have it pts!

Quite frankly, that is as twattish as the behaviour of the dog owners in the OP.
