WIBU to report this man to his company?

So I was driving to work, when I heard someone sound their horn loudly. I looked across and this lorry driver was pomping his horn at the woman in front of him. She had stopped at the traffic lights (on green) as the traffic at the other side of the junction had backed up. He then nearly took her back end out and undertook her, and then cut her up. I saw her face and she looked really shocked.

Then he sped up and slammed on so hard in front of her that I thought he had hit the car in front. He them got out of his cab and started yelling at her.

Anyway I saw the name of his company on his lorry. I wouldn't normally have done anything, but him getting out of his cab must have been so scary, so I emailed his company to tell them what I had seen. They asked me to ring them, which I did. They knew who it was and were getting him in to talk to him about the incident.

Thought I had done the right thing, but then a colleague asked me whether I was satisfied that I had probably lost the guy his job. Should I have minded my own business?

No YANBU - he should learn to keep his temper!

LEMisdisappointed · 28/04/2013 19:43

YABU - you should have phoned the police too!! If that is the way he speaks to people, he doesn't deserve his job! If he loses it he only has himself to blame.

you did the right thing - he should get the sack if he can't do his job without abusing people

CoalDustWoman · 28/04/2013 19:44

No. You wouldn't lose him his job, he saw to that himself. If he did actually lose the job.

Well done. Tossers like that need consequences. What planet is your colleague on?

lovesherdogstoomuch · 28/04/2013 19:44

you absolutely did the right thing. the guy deserves to lose his job. next time he might really lose it and really hurt someone. tell the colleague to get lost.

flippinada · 28/04/2013 19:44

YWNBU and I think you did the right thing. I think it's highly unlikely the man will lose his job.

OddSockMonster · 28/04/2013 19:46

You did the right thing. If that lady knew, I'm sure she'd thank you.

Jinty64 · 28/04/2013 19:46

He deserves to lose his job if he is behaving like this. He is likely to cause an accident. You did the right thing.

phantomnamechanger · 28/04/2013 19:51

YANBU - the firm do not want that sort of idiot representing them and getting them a bad name - you are a potential customer as is his "victim" and anyone else who saw the outburst! Serves him right if he gets a warning or worse - maybe they have had other complaints, who knows?
The bigger firms have phone numbers on their lorries encouraging people to inform on the drivers good/bad driving!

flippinada · 28/04/2013 19:54

Yes *phantom...not much of an advert is it "Come to , we consistently employ the thickest AND most aggressive drivers!"

Greydog · 28/04/2013 19:57

If the company knew who it was it sounds like he's done this before. You did the right thing.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 28/04/2013 19:57

If he gets road rage a driving job isnt really for him anyway.

pigletmania · 28/04/2013 19:57

Yanbu at all you most certainly di th right thing. His driving and behaviour was abusive and reckless, it's his wn fault if he looses his job

phantomnamechanger · 28/04/2013 19:59

greydog, I think the company knew who it was based on OPs time/location/description - they would have to be pretty sure if they were just guessing!

ChaoticTranquility · 28/04/2013 20:00

YANBU If he has lost his job it'll be because of his behaviour and actions.

Greydog · 28/04/2013 20:01

Oh, hadn't thought of that, Phantom! But I bet he has done it before!

bonzo77 · 28/04/2013 20:02

YANBU. I've actually done the same after a driver was abusive to me. I phoned the company after googling it.

Icanhasnickname · 28/04/2013 20:03

And, every other driver at that company will be on their best behavior after hearing this.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/04/2013 20:04

You might find he's has previous complaints about him.
Seems like his victim didn't rise to it, but one day he'll meet someone who will.

BTW I reported an Eddie Stobbart driver - we were in the middle lane, left lane was chocka with HGVs. There was a car in front of me.
Eddie S driver was right up my backside, flashing lights and blasting the horns even though I had nowhere to go- I wasn't going to take a Leap of Faith into the right lane - he was so close I couldn't see what was in my right mirror.

DH was in the car. My 2 DC in huge high backed car seats.(so very obvious I had young children in the car)
DH got his number, cab number, the stupid little driver nickname on his cab.

We reported it.

Nothing.Angry

yaimee · 28/04/2013 20:04

If he loses his job it's because of his behaviour. He lost himself his job, not you.
No one would behave like that in front of their colleges or boss, the fact that does not give him free rein to behave as he please, especially when his behaviour is not just rude but dangerous.

whosshe · 28/04/2013 20:06

Totally the right thing, very dangerous, losing his job would be a minimum, if the police had seen it it would be a lot worse. Well done!

Happiestinwellybobs · 28/04/2013 20:07

Apparently all their vehicles are tracked so when I gave them the time and location, they were able to see who it was. The guy I spoke to seemed to take it really seriously.

All I could think was that if it were me and DD were in the car, I would have been terrified :(
