AIBU?

...to still be sooooo angry at the UNFAIR way the Government has decided who does and doesn't get Child Benefit!

I know it's done and dusted but I'm so fucking annoyed. How can they get away with their bonkers policy that if two people in a relationship earn just under the threshold they keep their CB but if one person earns over the threshold they lose it!?!

Savanna, have already had too many for a school night. I will feel bad tomorrow, but I have to say, I have had a lovely time on here tonight. It feels strange, people feel like friends (or am I too pissed) Grin Haven't got that feeling from MN before now. I feel all loved up [pissed mother emoticon]

Seesensepeople - thank you very much no wine in this house I'm afraid ill mooch over to ihategeorgeosbournes and steal a glass from her Grin

Not all of MN is as well heated as here, I've been here a fair few years and have seen some truly wonderful support.

Getting back to the erm topic, we all knew there would be cuts, we knew done would be difficult but I never thought they would touch CB nevermind what they have done to disabled people whilst giving the wealthy a tax cut, it's disgusting.

I think we all want the cuts to be overall fair.

It's good to have virtual friends...

Yes, we knew there would be cuts and having lived through the last Tory govermnment I was worried.

There's still time for more austerity measures.

Problem is, we don't have a credible alternative - I worry about this.

YANBU to get so mad about this, I still do not understand how the idiots in the government have pushed through so many totally insane policies. The terrible part of it is how powerless I feel. I have no meaningful method of protest that the government would listen to. I can email, write letters, post here etc etc but it wont do the slightest bit of good, the government don't care, they don't want to hear it. So I get to wait until 2015 to vote for.....who exactly? They are all a bunch of arseholes.
Surely this will all end badly.

Definitely not a bad influence seesense. I'm relatively new to mumsnet myself. The cuts to CB drew me here. Your welcome to drop in for Wine anytime or a Brew if you prefer!. Come on over kitty. The bottle's not quite empty. It is good to have virtual friends Smile

We don't have a credible alternative. I too worry about this. I mean, after all, how hard can it be to be a credible alternative to what we have Hmm

george I seem to remember we "met" on the last ranty CB thread. We have pretty much the same circumstances and therefore similar feelings on it all. We must be kindred spirits!

I agree ssd, extra childcare is needed in the hols for older DC.

But CB isn't paid for childcare, it is/was intended to offset a little of the incidental costs of taking responsibility for sensibly raising future tax payers.

You're right Savannah, I remember meeting you before. We are kindred spirits Grin I'm always on the CB threads. I think I've been here all day on and off, apart from the couple of hours we went for a family walk this afternoon. Dh says it's not healthy to be on the computer this much!

I know - I'm always grumbling at my DC's for having their eyes glued to one screen or another, but when it comes to MN I 'm no better! Very hypocritical of me Wink

Note to self, must not switch on the computer tomorrow. Instead I must clean the really minging bathroom and hoover upstairs. {Apologies for completely going off topic emoticon}. I must really think about heading up the wooden steps for Bedfordshire.

morethan I maintain it is possible for any family to live on min wage with or without top ups. Its down to the choices you make.

Sorry but I find this very ignorant. Families where there are children with chronic illnesses, special needs tend to financially struggle a lot. Also, many parents are unwell themselves, with mental illness striking in 1 in 4, it's not that statistically low a chance.

crashdoll - i think it varies a lot on where you live. My BIL lives in a very cheap area on minimum wage and still manages to run a car and live in 3 bed owner occupied house. you would have absolutely no chance to get anywhere near his standard of living here in the south

dreamingofsun.

I think you are near the mark there, we chose to move to where work was, lived on friends floors, saved for deposit, got a crappy house. We then put all dhs min wage into doing up house and lived off the local farmers and a lot of bartering. I was not a country girl but soon got used to it, we were a bit like The Good Life when we started off. We did this a few times with crappy houses doing them up and making a bit each time.
Some people see this as good luck but it was bloody hard work and good management. Anybody could do it and crashdoll I have lived with Mental illness since age 21
